Nasdaq Trendline Alert for Stock Index Traders / Stock-Markets / Stock Index Trading
One of the most powerful technical tools that a trader possesses is a pencil and a ruler. It sounds kind of old-school, but the reality is trend lines in technical analysis are enormously important.
In my new video I will show you how the NASDAQ index has broken a very important trend line and what the ramifications are for this index.

Stock Market Crash Second Leg, What’s Next in 2010? / Stock-Markets / Financial Crash
A lot of people realize that the world financial and commodity markets have rocketed around 60 pct since March 2009. Around the summer/fall people realized that the markets got ahead of the world economy, which is still terrible. Unemployment is still rising and one day this month there were US job losses of 50,000 announced. Hey if jobs are again going to tank (they are) then this gig of so called recovery is over.

A Dismal Decade? No Way With Stock Market Cycle Investing / Stock-Markets / Investing 2010
From the end of 1999 through the end of 2009, all of the popular Wall Street market performance measurement tools were in the red. Obama And Earnings Reports Soothe Stock Market Investors Nerves / Stock-Markets / Financial Markets 2010
A more hawkish than expected FOMC statement yesterday saw equities ending higher and debt lower. There was also relief that Obama’s State of Union speech contained no negative surprises. He announced an extension of tax incentives which was warmly received and announced the elimination of capital gains tax on small businesses. Not sure whether this squeeze has legs but with one hurdle out of the way some of the bears are covering – it’s just a question of whether the long-only sellers we have seen all week decide to come in of the side lines. We are knee deep in earnings and global proxies. CAT, Hitachi Construction etc are guiding lower which doesn’t exactly fill me with a great deal of confidence.

Stock and Commodities Trading for SP500, Gold, Silver and Crude Oil / Stock-Markets / Financial Markets 2010
The stock indexes have been trading very choppy making it difficult for swing/trend traders. It’s during times like this when seasoned traders rise above the herd of average traders.
If you only trade one strategy like swing trading or trend trading then you are likely finding it difficult to make money right now. On the other hand, day traders are having a blast right now as they take advantage of the powerful intraday rallies and sell offs.

Stock Market Post FOMC Interest Rate Decision Rally / Stock-Markets / Stock Index Trading
The stock market indices had an interesting and volatile session, but at the end of the day after the FOMC announced they managed to stage a sharp 3 wave rally and closed near the highs for the day. Only a last 10-minute profit-taking pullback brought them off the highs for the day. But it was a positive day for the indices, particularly because key support held, especially on the Nasdaq 100.

Stock Markets Turn Late... / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2010
The stock market needed fear. A bull bear spread of 37.5%. Markets normally have a strong pullback once you see levels over 35%. It's not an exact timing mechanism but it was coiled spring looking for a catalyst. It found it and down we went. It was no small move down either as two and a half months of gains were wiped out in three days worth of market action. That's more than just ouch. Moves down are always more aggressive than moves higher because fear is a greater emotion than greed.

China Funds FXI, GXC, PGJ, HAO Rolling Over / Stock-Markets / Chinese Stock Market
This article is about four exchange traded funds (FXI, GXC, PGJ, HAO) and four closed-end funds (CHN, JFC, CAF, GCH), and the deteriorating price performance of those funds and the China indexes.
Putting the bottom line at the top, we think China is rolling over, at least in the short-term, and we are short FXI as of last Thursday, but still long the S&P 500 (proxy: SPY) for the time being.

Stock Market Investor Fears Over China and Re-regulation / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2010
US stocks fell Tuesday, erasing gains in the session’s final hour, as concern the Federal Reserve may signal more plans to unwind stimulus measures overshadowed higher-than-estimated earnings from Apple, Tellabs, Travelers etc and a jump in consumer confidence. JP Morgan slid 2% to lead declines in the Dow. Verizon Communications shed 1.7%, while US Steel plunged 12% on a wider-than-estimated loss and the prospect of diminished demand from China. Benchmark indexes extended declines as Elliott Wave International CEO Robert Prechter said a new bear market may have begun.

Stock Market Quiet Inside Day / Stock-Markets / Stock Index Trading
Take a stock such as Apple (AAPL), which had a very nice day. Or did it! Great earnings for sure and rewarded for those earnings. It opened at 205.95 and closed at 205.94 after printing nearly 214.00 intraday. It actually printed a doji and a black candle and on a big move like that you don't want to see the sellers catch up so late in the day and print that black candle. The last hour did a lot of damage. We saw that type of reversal down on all the index charts and thus they too didn't print very pretty candles. Does this late action negate the better looking 60-minute charts that are out there? We are about to find out aren't we.

Stock Market Investors 2010 Risk Reward Focus, Calm Seas, Blood in the Water / Stock-Markets / Risk Analysis
The picture below is a little cheesy but I think it depicts the way many investors feel right now as they sit isolated, feeling trapped and abandoned. They may have listened to the fear mongers and pulled their pensions or are thinking about it, maybe they fired their advisor and are cuddled up with their cash wondering what to do next.

The Chinese Interest Rates Torture Continues For Stock Markets / Stock-Markets / Financial Markets 2010
Monday brought some respite, as hopes of a reappointment for Bernanke grew and Greece managed to ‘successfully’ launch its 5-year bond. Are risk takers out of the woods then? The jury is still out. Asian equities sold off overnight again, on yet more fears about tighter policy in China (see below). Greece of course managed to raise €8bn, with the book even reaching €25bn. This comes as a relief, suggesting the country is still able to fund itself. However, such success has a price – Greece had to pay mid swap +350bp, or 30bp more than the price of its exiting July 2015 issue. Still, this should help calm fears of a Greek default.

Economic Depression Wealth Preservation, Investing, and Prepping in 2010 / Stock-Markets / Investing 2010
The trend going forward during this economic depression is getting back to basics. We often discuss ‘prepping’ as a way to protect your family in the event of an unforeseen catastrophe (natural or man-made). Recently, we’ve seen more financial analysts and advisers recommend shifting from traditional investments like stocks, bonds, CD’s and money market accounts, to tangible assets that will gain value regardless of what stock and bond markets do.
