Trading The Global Future - Bad Consequences / Economics / Global Economy
The Trump administration’s ‘America First’ policies come at a critical time in the global economy. These bad policies will have adverse consequences in international trade. In the absence of countervailing forces, they could unsettle the post-2008 global recovery and undermine postwar globalization. This summer, the Trump administration’s tariff war penalized $50 billion worth of goods traded between the US and China.
The next stage of White House escalation will impact up to $200 billion of Chinese imports, and result in proportionate Chinese retaliation.

Central Banks Have Gone Rogue, Putting Us All at Risk / Politics / Central Banks
Excluding institutions such as Blackrock and Vanguard, which are composed of multiple investors, the largest single players in global equity markets are now thought to be central banks themselves. An estimated 30 to 40 central banks are invested in the stock market, either directly or through their investment vehicles (sovereign wealth funds). According to David Haggith at Zero Hedge:
Read full article... Growing Number of Small Businesses Opening – and Closing – In the UK / Companies / SME
Last year, the Financial Times reported a record number of new start ups in the UK. It is a beacon of light in what have otherwise been difficult economic times over recent years, ones that will only get tougher as Brexit looms closer. However, there are two sides to every coin, and while the number of new businesses is nothing less than laudable, there is also the worrying statistic that around 20 percent of them survive less than a year.

Bitcoin Price Is About To Bottom / Currencies / Bitcoin
The painful nine month bear market that began when Bitcoin topped in the mid $19,000’s is now the second longest bear market in crypto history; second in rank to one that began after the Mt. Gox sent Bitcoin down nearly 90% in 18 long months.
As is typical in a bear market, the investing public passes blame. Those trapped in the ensuing downtrend look for reasons they are losing money, as if the market owes them something. For cryptos, the opening of CME Bitcoin futures trading, which began trading shortly before the top, is the chief target. I’ve heard that it said that paper futures always ruin markets. Other targets of blame include regulation in the states and abroad, and the plethora of ‘crap’ coins on the market. The general and age old cry that the markets are manipulated also abound.

Elliott Wave Analysis of Dow Jones Trucking Index (DJUSTK) / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2018
This index has been strong recently and is one of the components of the Dow Transportation Average (DJT). I am closely watching the Dow Jones Trucking Index (DJUSTK) for clues to when the DJT will end its advance from the 2016 lows and reverse lower, as it seems that the recent fuel that is driving the Dow Transportation Average (DJT) higher is coming from the rail road and trucking stocks.Looking at DJUSTK I can make a solid case that it’s close to ending an impulse wave from the 2016 lows and current advance is in a 5th wave, although it may still push a little higher as some of the major stocks in the DJUSTK would look better if new highs were seen, stocks just as SAIA & XOP etc. Once we see new highs or some evidence of a reversal I am expecting the DJT to reverse lower.

Low Volatility Has Returned to the Stock Market. What’s Next / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2018
As you’ve probably noticed, the U.S. stock market’s volatility has been notably low over the past 2 months. It’s been 55 consecutive days without a >1% daily change!
*This is surprising because volatility is typically higher during August and September (more bearish seasonality).

The Four Steel Men Behind Trump’s Trade War / Economics / Protectionism
In few months, the Trump administration has undermined more than seven decades of U.S. free trade legacies. Who are the policymakers behind this reversal. Wat is their agenda? And why is steel their common denominator?Recently, the Trump administration hammered a revised North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) by pressuring Mexico and then strong-arming Canada to the tentative deal. The White House’s objective is either to redefine the terms on the basis of U.S. economic leverage and unipolar geopolitics or - if that is not acceptable to other parties - to withdraw the U.S. from such FTAs. It is not “either you are with us or against us,” as in the Bush years, but “America First - or nothing.”

How Trump Tariffs Could Double America’s Trade Losses / Economics / Protectionism
Trump tariffs are based on flawed doctrines, which could penalize the US as much as its trade deficits.Last Friday, President Trump threatened to impose tariffs on $267 billion in Chinese goods, on top of the additional $200 billion that he said will likely be hit with import taxes in a matter of days.
If the tariff stakes will increase up to $500 billion, it could penalize Chinese GDP by 1%, but the US GDP, which is relatively more vulnerable, would suffer a net impact of 2% of GDP. In dollar terms, the consequent tariff damage could prove even higher than the current U.S. trade deficit with China and thus double the damage.

Next Financial Crisis Is Already Here! John Lewis 99% Profits CRASH - Retail Sector Collapse / Stock-Markets / Retail Sector
This week the mainstream press has been busy focusing on remembering the 'start' of the financial crisis of September 2008 "Lehman's Brother Collapse" that most of whom never saw coming. In act the financial crisis actually began much earlier than September 2008 with the first obvious signs of a credit crisis brewing being the collapse of two Bear Stearns hedge funds during July 2007, but it would take the mainstream financial press another year before they started to connect the dots for the train wreck well in motion.

Gold, Silver, and USD Index - Three Important “Nothings” / Commodities / Gold and Silver 2018
Today’s analysis is going to be different than the other ones. We usually discuss what happened on a given day, week, or month and we elaborate on what it changed and what it didn’t change in case of the outlook for gold, silver, and mining stocks. But not today. Today, we are going to focus on what didn’t happen. At the first sight it seems that this means that there was no new signal. That’s not the case. The three important “nothings” that we will discuss in today’s article have important implications for the following days. That is if one knows where to look.
Let’s start with the first chart (charts courtesy of http://stockcharts.com).

Does Gambling Regulation Work - A Case Study / Personal_Finance / Gambling
Sunil Singh writes: Time and time again, we as a species have tested the notion of prohibition, and time and time again, it completely fails. It doesn’t matter whether it’s alcohol in the 1930s, cannabis since the 1960s, or banned Western movies in the likes of Soviet Union and North Korea. If people want to do something, they will find a way.One of the largest problems with prohibition is that it gives rise to a black market. Depending what is being prohibited, this can have rather dangerous consequences. We’ve all heard the stories of poisonous liquor pushed out by the mob in prohibition America. Likewise, recreational drugs distributed on black markets have absolutely no quality control. Examples where a policy of decriminalisation or legality show how sensible regulation is more effective than outright prohibition. Do you think you’d be able to buy a bag of cannabis tainted with fibre glass to increase its weight from a licensed dispensary in Colorado? Well, you can in the UK where the substance is still illegal.

The Ritual Burial of the US Constitution / Politics / US Politics
In the wake of a number of the Lehman and 9/11 commemorations in America, and as a monster storm is once again threatening to cause outsize damage, we find ourselves at a pivotal point in time, which will decide how the country interacts with its own laws, its legal system, its Constitution, its freedom of speech, and indeed if it has sufficient willpower left to adhere to the Constitution as its no. 1 guiding principle.
The main problem is that it all seems to slip slide straight by the people, who are -kept- busy with completely different issues. That is convenient for those who would like less focus on the Constitution, but it’s also very dangerous for everyone else. Americans should today stand up for freedom of speech, or it will be gone, likely forever.
