Sheffield's 'Real' LORAX Defending the Trees From the Labour City Council Patrol Units / Local / Sheffield

By: N_Walayat

Here are just a few of Sheffield's many thousands of LORAX who speak not just for the street trees but also for freedom, free speech, and democracy. Against which are martialed the forces of the establishment, a Labour controlled Sheffield city council and it's £2.2 billion PFI contractor Amey. Where we are increasingly witnessing the deployment of patrol units on the streets that go far beyond the realms of what one would expect from a British local city council, let alone a LABOUR COUNCIL! We are witnessing on a daily basis what resembles militias patrolling Sheffield's streets along with their green vested evidence gatherers that are akin to something out of an eastern european dictatorship.

By: N_Walayat

The escalation this week of the Labour controlled Sheffield City Council's PFI contractor Amey deploying private security in footage and images has been generating outrage amongst Sheffield's electorate where even the mainstream press who usually tend to ridicule the tree protestors as being a fringe group have started to question recent tactics in the wake of footage of protestors being 'geckoed' i.e. squashed between walls and metal barriers.

By: N_Walayat

The Labour controlled Sheffield City Council's 'streets ahead' PFI contractor Amey has deployed increased tree felling / security resources at the start of this week in an attempt to fell hundreds of trees before the end of this year by deploying what resembles an army of green capped hi vis jacketed security personnel to accompany felling crews that tend to far out number the protestors standing beside street trees in freezing temperatures across dozens of Sheffield's streets. The catalyst for this weeks escalation is the looming deadline contained within the PFI contract to fell 6,000 of Sheffield's big street trees by the end of 2017 (out of an estimated total of 36,000).

Labour Sheffield City Council's War on Street Tree Protestors - Day 2 / Local / Sheffield

By: N_Walayat

Monday witnessed a ramping up of Sheffield City Council's 'streets ahead' PFI contractor Amey's attempts to fell Sheffield's largest street trees as it appears dozens of private security personnel were deployed along side felling crews to ensure that any attempts at the preventing felling of street trees were met with a security response. The catalyst for Monday's change of tack by the city council's contractor Amey appears to be the looming deadline contained within the PFI contract to fell 6,000 of Sheffield's big street trees by the end of 2017 (out of an estimated total of 36,000).

Sheffield Leafy Suburbs Tree Felling's Triggering House Prices CRASH! / Housing-Market / Sheffield

By: Nadeem_Walayat

Sheffield City Council's 'Streets Ahead' PFI Contract with the Spanish Ferrovial owned Amey has been busing ripping the green out of England's greenest city England during 2017. As Sheffield's tree lined leafy suburbs that the estate agents so welcoming advertise are increasingly becoming no more. Trees that have taken more than a 100 years to reach their adult splendour have been felled in there thousands leaving behind either voids or a £20 sapling that rarely survives or is prone to falling prey to vandalism, all in exchange for large trees with capital values of between £50k and £150k now permanently gone!

Labour Sheffield City Council Employs Army of Spy's to Track Down Tree Campaigners / Felling's Watchers / Local / Sheffield

By: N_Walayat

The Labour controlled Sheffield city council has adopted extreme measures in an attempt at silencing dissent or disruption of it's programme to fell 6000 street trees by the end of this year out of a stock of about 30,000 mature street trees. The strategy being deployed amounts to one of intimidation of anyone who disagrees with the tree felling's programme, where even standing and watching a tree felling in progress is likely to prompt the Labour council's ever expanding army of intelligence gathers (spy's) to add watchers on to a growing list of persons of interest, regardless of whether they have actually interfered in anyway in the Labour councils tree felling's programme, as an army of evidence gathers (spy's, with cameras at hand can be found recording anyone and everyone, even those who just stop to look at the felling's underway across Sheffield's streets.

What Happens When Amey Fells All of a Streets Trees (Sheffield Tree Fellings) - Video / Local / Sheffield

By: Anika_Walayat

Once Upon a Time there was a Street Full of Tree's, then Amey Came! This is a story of what happened to 1 street that was purged by the Labour Sheffield City Council's PFI contractor Amey of all of its trees. That illustrates what is happening across the city to hundreds of Sheffield's biggest trees that soak up vehicle pollution and releasing oxygen into the streets, which is why they were planted in the first place typically over a 100 years ago to help clean up Sheffield's toxic air environment of that time which given the volume of traffic remains just as toxic now as it was then.

What Happened to Thousands of Sheffield's Street Trees 2017 - Fellings Documentary / Local / Sheffield

By: N_Walayat

Formerly Britain's greenest city, Sheffield has become infamous world wide for the felling of thousands of the cities biggest and best street trees. This documentary answers the many questions of exactly what is happening and why and what are the likely economic and environmental consequences to follow the initial felling of 6,000 trees by the by Spanish Ferrovial owned Amey, as the first tranche of 6000 trees to be felled nears completion. The consequences of which Sheffield will pay a heavy price for decades to come, and not just economic consequences in terms of lost capital value to Sheffield's property market, but health and environmental consequences, as at a time of heightened climate change awareness, Sheffield City Council is going in the opposite direction to recommended climate change alleviation measures of greater tree leaf coverage so as to soak up carbon from the atmosphere and offer people and properties shade during the ever hotter summer months.

Labour Sheffield City Council Playing Game of Thrones with Street Trees / Local / Sheffield

By: Anika_Walayat

Amey / Labour city council's objective is to kill and remove at least 6,000 of Sheffield's biggest and best tree's in support of which Amey use excuses such as that the trees are displacing curb stones. Here tree expert Jeremy Barrell for the BBC One Show takes a close look at many of Sheffield's trees marked for death, and gives his damning verdict that none of the trees he has looked at need to be felled. In stark contrast to Amey / Labour city council that is determined to kill at least 6,000 of Sheffield's street trees so as to avoid annual tree maintenance costs such as pruning and installation of solutions such as flex-paving.

Sheffield Tramlines Music Festival 2017 at Peace Gardens / Local / Sheffield

By: Anika_Walayat

Sheffield is holding it's annual Tramlines Music festival weekend (Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd July), with music stages situated not just across the city centre but across many of Sheffield's best parks, pumping out music to cater for all tastes, and you don't have to pay for expensive wrist bands to enjoy the Tramlines experience as there are many free stages across the city such as in the Peace Gardens which we visited Saturday amongst other venues. Here's how the Peace Gardens music went down, where the crowd was about half that of last year, probably due to a poor weather forecast for Saturday. And remember that Tramlines continues Sunday across the city for its third and final day.
