US Midterm Elections Forecast 2018 / ElectionOracle / US Congressional Elections
By: Nadeem_Walayat
Several patrons have messaged me asking for my views on the mid-term US elections. Whilst I’ve not been following these elections too closely i.e. in terms of betting on them, nevertheless here is my view which is primarily based on the fact that usually the party that holds the White House tends to do badly in the mid-terms.

Stock Market Calm Before The Storm / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2018
By: Chris_Vermeulen
With very strong US jobs data hitting the news wires this morning and an incredible upside price swing overnight because of expectations and hope of a US/China trade deal in the works, we were not surprised by the downside rotation in the US stock market this morning. As we’ve been warning for the past 3+ months, we expect the US stock markets to trade very narrowly headed into the US mid-term elections and begin a breakout upside price move sometime between November 8 and November 12.

Trump's War on the Fed / Politics / US Federal Reserve Bank
By: Ellen_Brown
October was a brutal month for the stock market. After the Federal Reserve’s eighth interest rate hike, on Sept. 26, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped more than 2,000 points, and the NASDAQ had its worst month in nearly 10 years. After the Dow lost more than 800 points on Oct. 10 and the S&P 500 suffered its first weeklong losing streak since Trump’s election, the president said, “I think the Fed is making a mistake. They are so tight. I think the Fed has gone crazy.” In a later interview on Fox News, he called the Fed’s rate hikes “loco.” And in a Wall Street Journal interview published on Oct. 24, Trump said he thought the biggest risk to the economy was the Federal Reserve, because “interest rates are being raised too quickly.” He also criticized the Fed and its chairman in July and August.

Positive Implications for Gold Miners if Crude Oil Breaks Down / Commodities / Crude Oil
By: Gary_Tanashian
It’s an over obsessed upon commodity, previously hyped for its (Hubbert’s) “peak” status by “experts” like T Boone Pickens and a whole clown show of promoters amplified by the media at the time.
Now WTI Crude Oil has reached a thick resistance zone (as managed in NFTRH for the last couple of years) and may be breaking down from a peak of a whole other kind. Here is the monthly chart we use.

Gold Stocks Winter Rally / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2018
By: Zeal_LLC
The gold miners’ stocks suffered a rough late summer this year. A rare forced capitulation walloped them to deep new lows, short-circuiting their usual autumn rally. That’s left this sector anomalously low as the subsequent winter rally gets underway, gold stocks’ strongest seasonal surge of the year. Starting from beaten-down levels after skipping the prior seasonal rally gives gold stocks exceptionally-bullish upside potential.
Seasonality is the tendency for prices to exhibit recurring patterns at certain times during the calendar year. While seasonality doesn’t drive price action, it quantifies annually-repeating behavior driven by sentiment, technicals, and fundamentals. We humans are creatures of habit and herd, which naturally colors our trading decisions. The calendar year’s passage affects the timing and intensity of buying and selling.

Is President Trump Right About the Fed? / Politics / US Federal Reserve Bank
By: Harry_Dent

From his, ahem, unique world view, he believes they’re trying to wreck his new gravy train economy… the one he created with major tax cuts ($1.5 trillion), major repatriations from overseas ($2 trillion), deregulation, and a lot of positive talk about 4% to 5% growth again…
But, with no fear of sounding like a broken record: sustaining growth rates at that level are demographically IMPOSSIBLE!

A Year of Inflated Market Bubbles / Stock-Markets / Liquidity Bubble
By: Harry_Dent

Even worse, these bubbles have inflated beyond any recognizable or manageable form. They’ve morphed into monsters, seemingly with minds and wills of their own.
There are, at the least, two forces at play here: central banks (the crack dealers)… and cycles. Let’s continue our discussion of the most important cycle that will impact us next year, particularly in the last half…

Are These the New Leaders of the Pot Market? / Companies / Cannabis
By: Rodney_Johnson
The SEC, the government watchdog, and TDAmeritrade, the self-service brokerage firm, recently issued warnings about buying into the pot industry hype.Watch out!, they tell us. The pot industry is filled with high-flying stocks, overbought companies, and outright scams. Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!
I think we’ll find our way out of the forest, thank you very much.
I wonder how such companies would compare to Pets.com from the 1990s, or Enron, or even WorldCom, for that matter.

The Cycle Saving Home Buyers $3,000 Per Year Just Ran Out Of Fuel / Housing-Market / US Housing
By: Dan_Amerman
Home buyers in every city and state have been benefiting from a powerful financial cycle for almost five years. Most people are not aware of this cycle, but it has lowered the average monthly mortgage payment for home buyers on a national basis by about $250 per month since the end of 2013.
The interest rate cycle in question is one of "yield curve spread" expansion and compression, with yield curve spreads being the difference between long term and short term interest rates. This interest rate spread has been going through a compression phase in its ongoing cycle, meaning that the gap between long term interest rates and short term interest rates has been falling sharply in recent years.

Gold Stocks are Not Close to Bottom / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2018
By: Jordan_Roy_Byrne
It has been a rough year for gold stock investors.
Since Gold failed to break to the upside and the US Dollar bottomed, gold stocks have been in a strong downtrend. In September they hit two and a half year lows.
The oversold condition since then has been corrected but that rebound has been quite weak.
Evidence of that can be seen in the GDX advance decline (A/D) line (an important breadth indicator) which is showing a negative divergence and hit a new low on Wednesday.

Everything You Need to Know About Medicare in the United States / Personal_Finance / Health and Fitness
By: Dylan_Moran
Started in 1965 under the Social Security Administration, Medicare is a single-payer national health insurance program aimed at providing health insurance to people who are 65 and older, younger individuals with disabilities and those suffering from End-Stage Renal Disease.
It covers hospital care, outpatient services and prescription drugs. In 2015, Medicare covered 16.3 percent of the United States’ population and in that year alone, 56 million people were enrolled in the program. 47 million of those individuals were the elderly and approximately nine million had disabilities.
