Stock Market Steady As She Goes... / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2010

By: Jack_Steiman

The market gapped up this morning and became really overbought on those daily charts, but that didn't deter this market from grinding higher throughout the day, although some late selling took prices off their highs. RSI's are really getting up there, but the retail trader is holding things up as they usually do. The market seems to want to fool the masses and try higher in the short-term now that just about everyone says things will fall from overbought once the new year begins.

Stock Market Drifts Along.... / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2010

By: Jack_Steiman

Retail is allowing for the market to hang in there, but we're still facing overbought conditions along with bad sentiment issues, which is capping the upside for now. The financials are doing well. Goldman Sachs (GS), American International Group, Inc. (AIG), had significant gains today, while Bank of America Corporation (BAC), Wells Fargo & Company (WFC), Citigroup, Inc. (C), JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM) had fractional gains, but all did well. That's one of the few sectors holding us up here, but nothing is exactly getting crushed either. Just drifting around more than anything else, which is what happens when upside is minimal, yet the bigger picture internals are still bullish in nature. That's what is really frustrating the bears.

Stock Market Extreme Investor Sentiment Persists / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2010

By: Guy_Lerner

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleIt doesn't take a rocket scientist (or Wall Street analyst ~ a downgrade?) to figure out that investors are extremely bullish on the equity markets. Such extremes in sentiment will usually (85% of the time) lead to better risk adjusted buying opportunities in the future. In other words, the next best time to be a buyer of equities will be when investors are bearish not bullish as they are now. The markets don't have to go down just because everyone is bullish, but if you are a "believer" and buyer at these levels, then you will need to identify a market top and get to the exits before the next guy to extract profits. This is a very crowded trade and identifying the top is a tall order.

Stock Market Elliott Wave Trend Analysis Into End of 2010 and 2011 Start / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2010

By: Tony_Caldaro

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleIt was a productive albeit quiet week of trading in the US. The market made a new bull market high in the opening minutes of trading on monday, made higher highs over the next two days, and closed out the week within two points of the SPX 1259 bull market high. The week’s fourteen economic reports were all jammed into the last two days of trading. Twelve were positive or improving, and only two were flat or lower. The rundown. Weekly jobless claims were flat, and the weekly M1 multiplier declined this week. Q3 GDP was raised to 2.6%, existing/new home sales rose, as did FHFA home prices and weekly mortgage applications. Durable goods orders improved, personal income/spending remained positive, while PCE prices rose, along with, consumer sentiment, the monetary base and the WLEI.

Stock Market Reaches Eight Month High, Could be Downhill Fast / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2010

By: Anthony_Cherniawski

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleAfter Nearly Two Years Of Searching, TrimTabs Still Can't Figure Out Who Is Buying Stocks

(ZeroHedge) A year after Charles Biderman's provocative post first appeared on Zero Hedge, in which he asked just who is doing all the buying of stocks as the money was obviously not coming from retail investors, today Maria Bartiromo invited the TrimTabs head once again in an interview which disclosed that after more than a year of searching, Biderman still has no idea who actually buying. In response to Bartiromo's question if the retail investor, who left after the flash crash (thank you SEC), Biderman responds what every Zero Hedger has known for 33 weeks: "Retail investors are not coming back to the US…When I was on your show a year ago I was saying the same thing: we can't figure out who is doing the buying it has to be the government, and people said I was nuts. Now the government is admitting it is rigging the market." Cue Bartiromo’s jaw dropping.

Thoughts on Stock Market Timing and Hundreds of Billions in Municipal Bond Market Losses? / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2010

By: John_Mauldin

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleWe Lost One of the Really Good Guys
Hundreds of Billions in Losses? Really?
Some Thoughts on Market Timing
Where Has the Year Gone?

I am neither a market timer nor the son of a market timer. I left my office in the Texas Rangers ballpark this year, and they went to the World Series. I bought Dallas Cowboys season tickets for the first time in 50 years, as they went down in flames. But I do know a few very good timers, and they are sending out warnings. Today, we look at a few of these, as it might pay to hedge some of your equity portfolio as we go into the New Year. I also answer some questions as to my view of the municipal bond market, given the 60 Minutes report of last week. The answers may surprise you. And as we approach the end of the year, I suggest a place where your help is most needed. I will try to keep it shorter, as there are more important things at this time of the year than the markets.

Stock Sentiment Worsens... Holiday Time Holds Market Up... / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2010

By: Jack_Steiman

This is normally a very bullish time of the year for the stock market. Santa Clause and all that nonsense. It's a retail trade time where small investors buy, and buy, and buy some more the way they're trained to do while the big money walks away for vacation. Volume trends are ridiculously low, but the markets almost always trend higher. We like that notion. Holiday cheer and good market times. Only problem is, sentiment is now becoming an important issue for this market.

Stock Market Volatility Set to Pick Up in the New Year / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2010

By: Captain_Hook

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleThe markets are so manipulated these days that it’s becoming increasingly difficult to gauge just what effect increasing interference is having, knowing in general all unnatural stimuli have decreasing impact the longer and more they are applied. Perhaps the best example of this at present comes from the bond market, where in spite of QE2 and a generous POMO schedule (every day now) that looks set to run in perpetuity, bond prices are falling. In this regard you should know US long bonds (and 10-Year Treasuries) are in jeopardy of signaling a secular trend change with a bearish five-wave pattern lower, which is why so many are now looking for another crash in real estate. We will let you know when such a signal in the bond market is triggered.

Stock Market Nails On The Chalkboard.... / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2010

By: Jack_Steiman

No one likes that sound. Makes you cringe. Makes you scream and cover your ears. It's just not pleasant. That's where we are now. An unpleasant grinding market that refuses to change its stripes. It refuses to pull back and reset those oscillators, but at the same time it's constricted to the upside. Markets do not blast higher, even in retail market days such as these are at holiday time, when you're this overbought. There's just not enough fuel in the tank to allow things to launch upward and out in to a new leg of this bull phase we're in right now.

Stock Market Heading for a Early Week Short-term Top / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2010

By: Andre_Gratian

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleCurrent Position of the Market

Very Long-term trend - The very-long-term cycles are down and if they make their lows when expected, the secular bear market which started in October 2007 should continue until about 2014-2015.

Long-term trend - In March 2009, equity markets began an upward corrective move in the form of a mini bull market.  Cycles point to a continuation of this trend into 2011.

It's Tough Being Bearish on Stocks / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2010

By: Guy_Lerner

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleIt is tough to be bearish for the following reasons: 1) the overwhelming consensus opinion of investors, bloggers, and newsletter writers is bullish now and into 2011; 2) the perception amongst investors is that the Federal Reserve has back stopped the market; 3) there is a persistence to the tape as it marches higher on both good and bad news; and 4) it is the holiday season where thinly traded markets can be easily manipulated higher. Yes, it is tough being bearish when everyone and everything you read is bullish, and the equity market can only go one way -- up. Yet, here I write that I am bearish. Why?

Gold Short-term Bearish but Medium and Long-term Bullish / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2010

By: Merv_Burak

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleWeakness in the recent market action has not been eliminated but as yet has not become serious.  What’s to come?

GOLD LONG TERM - On the long term once a trend is set in motion it continues for a long time.  So it is this week, the bullish trend continues even though the shorter term action may be on the verge of changing.  Gold remains comfortably above its positive sloping long term moving average line.  The long term momentum indicator remains in the positive zone although it is moving lower and has moved below its negative sloping trigger line.  The long term volume indicator is mow in a lateral trend but remains above its long term trigger line.  All in all the long term rating remains BULLISH.

The Stocks Bull Market Trend and the Improving Economy / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2010

By: Tony_Caldaro

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleEconomic reports for the week were quite good: 13 improving, 3 lower and 2 unchanged. Yet the SPX traded the entire week 7 points above and 7 points below where it had closed last friday. On the economic front, the current account deficit increased, building permits declined and weekly mortgage applications were lower. The NAHB housing index remained flat, as did the weekly jobless claims. On the positive side, the NY FED and Philly FED both improved, as did, industrial production, capacity utilization, housing starts, the BEA leading indicators, the monetary base and the WLEI.

Stock Market Holiday Grind... / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2010

By: Jack_Steiman

market down off of overbought daily charts. We are overbought on the oscillators and on pure sentiment readings. The market wants to sell but it still can't find a reason to do so in this holiday season. Timing the pullback, whatever it may look like, is very difficult here as the bigger picture remains solidly bullish. Where will the catalyst come from is the real question we're all asking. It didn't come from a bad employment report some weeks back. I thought that would do it.
