Facebook Nation Unveils its New Currency / Companies / Tech Stocks

By: Patrick_Henningsen

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleThe 21st century has certainly witnessed a progression towards a ‘cashless society’, but social networking giant Facebook are taking things a step further, throwing their hat into the ring with the introduction of a new compulsory monetary policy that will initially govern its share of the multi-billion dollar online games industry.

Three Stocks To Avoid! / Companies / Tech Stocks

By: Sy_Harding

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleI’m not saying sell them short, but here are three popular stocks I sure would neither buy nor hold at this point. They’ve had good runs, but are looking toppy on our technical charts and on their valuations and fundamentals.

Amazon (AMZN) is an amazing success story, one of the few dotcoms that not only survived the bursting of the dotcom bubble in 1999, when its stock lost 95% of its value, but recovered and has prospered.

Oil Companies Pumping Profits as Crude Continues to Climb / Companies / Oil Companies

By: Money_Morning

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleJason Simpkins writes: Despite political fallout from the Gulf oil spill, drilling and oil services companies made big waves in the waning months of 2010. And they're likely to carry that success through 2011 as higher oil prices and political gridlock keep the profits pumping.

Baker Hughes Inc. (NYSE: BHI), Halliburton Co. (NYSE: HAL), Helmerich & Payne Inc. (NYSE: HP), and Occidental Petroleum Corp. (NYSE: OXY) are among the oil companies that produced outstanding results in the final three months of 2010.

Why Risk Management Is Critical to Success / Companies / Dividends

By: Profit_Confidential

George Leong writes: There is optimism on Wall Street, but be careful as there is also risk. You need to understand the concept of risk management as a key element to investing success. The reason why I want to discuss risk management is my sense that there are some of you who probably fail to incorporate some sort of risk-management strategy. If you do have one, that’s fantastic and you are probably sleeping well at night. If you have been delinquent in this area, be careful.

Dividends and Growth, the Two Go Hand in Hand in this Business Cycle / Companies / Dividends

By: Profit_Confidential

Mitchell Clark writes: The power of a few large-cap companies to sway stock market sentiment is great. As recent corporate events illustrate, not only does good earnings news move the market, but, increasingly, dividend news is moving share prices. This is big and it’s a sign of the new age of austerity among corporations and individual investors.

U.S. Taxpayers Make $12.3 Billion Profit on Citigroup Bailout / Companies / Credit Crisis Bailouts

By: Money_Morning

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleDon Miller writes: The U.S. Treasury on Monday will complete the sale of warrants of Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C), allowing it to realize a $12.3 billion profit from its bailout of the banking giant.

The United States will record a net $312.2 million from the sale of its final 465.1 million warrants to purchase common shares of Citigroup, the Treasury Department said Wednesday. Last year, Treasury sold its 34% stake in Citigroup common shares.

Warning to Options Traders Looking at NetFlix Corporate Earnings / Companies / Options & Warrants

By: J_W_Jones

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleOne of the hardest things for me to remember is not to believe everything I see. I am a sucker for the latest “can’t lose” strategy supported by the experts. This morning I ran across a trade that looked too good to be true. I think it is, but I think it is instructive to walk through the potential hidden land mine. The event is the Wednesday afternoon release of NFLX earnings but there is a hidden trap for option traders using one commonly used earnings play structure.

Eyeing New Upleg in U.S. Steel / Companies / Articles

By: Mike_Paulenoff

My intermediate-term pattern work in U.S. Steel (X) argues strongly that last week's low at 51.33 ended the correction off of the January 3 high at 61.18. If proven accurate, that means the price structure held the top of its 8-month rounded base-like accumulation pattern ahead of another powerful upleg.

2011 Corporate Earnings Off to a Strong Start, but Will it Last? / Companies / Corporate Earnings

By: Money_Morning

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleDavid Zeiler writes: Earnings season is well underway and the trend so far has been mostly positive. But as 2011 progresses, companies will be less and less likely to meet - much less surpass - Wall Street's lofty expectations.

That's because high unemployment, tight credit, an inability to further reduce cost structure and less favorable comparisons to 2010 will conspire to trip up the less nimble corporations.

Amgen Pattern Calls for Bullish Outcome / Companies / Company Chart Analysis

By: Mike_Paulenoff

My work is telling me that Amgen (AMGN) has an extremely bullish near and intermediate term technical set-up. Call it a giant base pattern that started in early 2007, or call it a giant coil type of sideways consolidation period. Both patterns argue for possibly acute bullish outcomes that propel AMGN towards 62.50, and then 65.00 subsequently.

The Truth About 'Leveraged ETFs' / Companies / Exchange Traded Funds

By: Jared_Levy

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleBack in early October, after a visit to the Texas State Fair, I wrote about inflation and the global food "problem" and how you can take advantage. Every stock I mentioned in the report has seen substantial runs since then.

Keeping all of our greed under control, Sara recently detailed why commodities and the agri-stocks climbing with them needed a nap, and why maybe it was time to take profits.

Russia's Kaspersky antivirus company to conquer US market / Companies / Tech Stocks

By: Pravda

Russia's computer security company Kaspersky Lab, the fourth-largest global antivirus vendor, sold a large shareholding to US-based private equity firm General Atlantic. GA will become the second-largest shareholder of the Russian company, giving Kaspersky Lab an opportunity to improve its positions on the US market. The financial details of the deal have not been exposed yet, although it reportedly goes about 15-17 percent of the shares of the Russian company evaluated at $200 million.

The Only Stocks I'm Telling My Retired Friends to Buy Right Now / Companies / Investing 2011

By: DailyWealth

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleDr. David Eifrig writes: "I'm worried, Dave... There's so much talk everywhere about collapse and the end of the world. What should I do?"

Like many retirees, my mom is bombarded all day long on TV and radio with talk of financial collapse and how bad off America is. Many of these commentators expect a hyperinflation that will wipe out bonds and the value of the dollar. Their top recommendations are to stock up on bottled water, canned food, and gold bullion.

Where Can Investors Earn Yield? / Companies / Investing 2011

By: Mike_Larson

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleMunicipal and state debt? Nope. Long-term U.S. Treasuries? Haha! Don’t make me laugh!

None of those are good places to generate income, for all the reasons I’ve discussed before — lousy economic fundamentals, the threat of rising interest rates, slumping investor demand for their bonds, and so on.

By: Money_Morning

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleMartin Hutchinson writes: U.S. investors tend to regard the European Union as a region of low growth, an area of the world that has little to offer to non-EU investors.

For much of the EU, this is true (I've never found much of anything that's investment-worthy in Italy, for example).

BP and Toyota Motors bad stocks of 2010, maybe not ! / Companies / Company Chart Analysis

By: readtheticker

In 2010, we all remember BP and their horrific oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. We also remember Toyota Motors issue with their brake faults. Both stocks suffered mini crashes, however both companies can be regarded as high quality with plenty of cash, both took it on the chin and said they would fix it, in which they did and are.
