Germany, The One Economy Investors Can't Afford to Ignore / Companies / Investing 2011
By: Money_Morning
Martin Hutchinson writes:
U.S. investors tend to regard the European Union as a region of low growth, an area of the world that has little to offer to non-EU investors.
For much of the EU, this is true (I've never found much of anything that's investment-worthy in Italy, for example).

BP and Toyota Motors bad stocks of 2010, maybe not ! / Companies / Company Chart Analysis
By: readtheticker
In 2010, we all remember BP and their horrific oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. We also remember Toyota Motors issue with their brake faults. Both stocks suffered mini crashes, however both companies can be regarded as high quality with plenty of cash, both took it on the chin and said they would fix it, in which they did and are.

New Upleg Could Be Emerging for Silver Wheaton SLW / Companies / Company Chart Analysis
By: Mike_Paulenoff
Silver Wheaton Corp. (SLW), a silver mining and sales company, appears technically to have ended a correction, which means a new upleg in its powerful bull market could be emerging.
My technical and pattern work is "warning" me that the correction of the most recent upleg in SLW (from 13.50 to 42.34) is at or very near conclusion in the vicinity of Friday's low of 30.91. The correction to date retraced about 40% of the prior upleg, which satisfies "healthy" parameters for a bull market pullback.

Everybody was probably expecting a slow market news day on Monday, Jan. 17. After all, it is the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, and the U.S. market is closed. But Apple Inc. (AAPL) managed to make it quite eventful by dropping a bombshell that CEO Steve Jobs has taken an indefinite medical leave battling a rare form of cancer, and the liver transplant he had almost two years ago.

Steve Jobs Health Concerns No Reason to Bail on Apple / Companies / Tech Stocks
By: Money_Morning
Jason Simpkins writes: Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) stock is set to plunge today (Tuesday) due to growing concerns about Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs' health. But rather than retreat from the tech heavyweight, investors might be better served to load up as the stock pulls back.

Telecom Stocks Dividend Yields / Companies / Telecoms
By: Richard_Shaw
Those investors who are skeptical about dividends from the major telecoms AT&T (T) and Verizon (VZ), point to the declining wireline revenues as a factor putting the sales growth and dividend stream at risk. Clearly, telecoms don't have the utility-like stability of decades past, but we think fears are overstated.
Telecoms today are not just about phones, wired or wireless, but also about data delivery in competition with cable companies for internet and TV services. We think that provides an important revenue replacement source for the declining wireline business.

The Rendezvous Date for Junior Uranium Miners In Wyoming / Companies / Uranium
By: Jeb_Handwerger
How did the world champion chess players take over prime mining land in Wyoming and Texas in a brilliant tactical maneuver? Well, who would’ve thought it? Broad daylight and without a shot being fired, Russians have taken possession of rich American uranium assets. How they managed to do this might require the skills of a Sherlock Holmes in unraveling a labyrinthian maze. A description of the end game follows: About a year ago, the directors of Uranium One listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange as UUU and on the Nasdaq as SXRZF were abruptly informed by the Kazakhstan Government that their uranium properties were to be expropriated. The directors immediately flew out to the capital for an emergency meeting.Read full article... Read full article...

Up Gap for China FXI ETF / Companies / Chinese Stock Market
By: Mike_Paulenoff
This morning's announcement by the Bank of China to allow U.S. trading firms and individuals to open accounts (in its NY branch) to buy and sell yuan might have signaled a significant move by Chinese authorities to let the currency both freely trade and to allow market forces to push its value higher -- to avert criticism prior to the China Premier's visit to Washington next week.

My 20-year-old Japanese mother suddenly found herself living in a strange country with no family, friends, money, food, or place to live. Yet instead of returning to Japan where her family and friends were, she scratched, rummaged, and scavenged enough to make a new life for us in America. Why?

U.S. Manufacturing Outlook 2011 Slow, but Steady Growth Could Win Profits for Investors / Companies / Investing 2011
By: Money_Morning
Larry D. Spears writes:
It's often said that a little bit goes a long way, and that will certainly be the case for U.S. manufacturing growth in 2011. Although most projections still call for slower improvement in the sector than in 2010, the estimates have been characterized as "less bad" than originally expected -and that could translate into increased profit prospects for investors.
