The Military-Industrial Complex is Ruining the U.S. Economy / Politics / US Politics
Everyone knows that the too big to fails and their dishonest and footsy-playing regulators and politicians are largely responsible for trashing the economy.
But the military-industrial complex shares much of the blame.

Gold and United States Steepening Slippery Slope Towards Facism / Politics / US Politics
The United States is rather rapidly sliding into a fascist-type state (you can use the "corporatism" euphemism if the truth is too difficult to swallow). The government and their corporate oligarchy are stealing from the people and no longer care if the people have any cake to eat. The process was gradual at first, then accelerated during George Bush Jr's tenure.

America’s Healthcare Fraud, Confessions of a Drug Rep / Politics / US Politics
If America ever expects to fix its broken healthcare system, all of the problems must first be identified. Only then can a solution be engineered.

He had graduated summa ***** laude from Harvard at the age of 19, received a doctorate from Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, published his first book at 22, with dozens more to follow on government, economics, and foreign policy in Europe and Latin America. He joined the Harvard faculty at 23.

Are We Solving the ROOT CAUSE of our Economic Problems? / Politics / US Politics
Picture yourself in the following scenario: you are visiting your doctor complaining of abdominal pains, the doctor gives you a prescription for a strong pain killer. Certainly the pain medicine will help you feel better, but does it really solve the problem that caused the pains in the first place? Could this be the result of appendicitis or some other serious condition? You would rightly question the doctor’s judgment. The doctor is treating the SYMPTOM of the problem, not the ROOT CAUSE.

Demise of The United States of America, An American Tragedy / Politics / US Politics
The demise of a nation is often at the hands of others; and, whereas the usual suspects are its enemies, allies and friends cannot be ruled out.The 20th century will be remembered as the century when America became a world power. World Wars I and II would decimate the then great powers of the world, e.g. England, Germany, Russia, France, Japan, etc., leaving the US as the last nation standing—the world’s sole superpower.

The Future of the United States, Systemic Fraud, Corruption and Financial Instability / Politics / US Politics
Craig Harris writes: As we close out 2009 and look forward into 2010 and beyond, this has been a year of near financial catastrophe and monumental change, none of which benefited America or ordinary Americans. Late in 2008 and throughout 2009, events have happened in the US which would have been labeled unfathomable just a few short years ago, and yet already these monumental changes are expected to be filed into the memory hole and Americans are expected to believe nothing has changed.

United States to Wage War Throughout the World 2010 / Politics / US Politics
January 1 will usher in the last year of the first decade of a new millennium and ten consecutive years of the United States conducting war in the Greater Middle East.
Beginning with the October 7, 2001 missile and bomb attacks on Afghanistan, American combat operations abroad have not ceased for a year, a month, a week or a day in the 21st century.

U.S. Thinking the Art of Military Planning / Politics / US Politics
It is often assumed that what preoccupies military planners is their attempts to define the shape of future warfare so that they can adequately prepare equipment and doctrine ideal to meet the threat. Evidence, however, shows that what most occupies their attention is how to adapt existing force structures and systems to react to emerging conditions.Read full article... Read full article...

U.S. 2 Million Troop, $1 Trillion Death Machine / Politics / US Politics
With a census of slightly over 300 million in a world of almost seven billion people, the U.S. accounts for over 40 percent of officially acknowledged worldwide government military spending with a population that is only 4 percent of that of the earth's. A 10-1 disparity.
In addition to its 1,445,000 active duty service members, the Pentagon can and does call upon 1.2 million National Guard and other reserve components. As many as 30% of troops that have served in Afghanistan and Iraq are mobilized reservists. The Army National Guard has activated over 400,000 soldiers since the war in Afghanistan began and in March of 2009 approximately 125,000 National Guard and other reserve personnel were on active duty.

Dr. Keynes's U.S. Health Care Prescription / Politics / US Politics
"Health care in lead as stocks surge" ~ MarketWatch
This December 21, 2009 headline marks what I regard as the triumph of Keynesian dogma in the American equity markets. I can think of no headline in the last 30 years that better illustrates the triumph of Paul Samuelson, whose health care expenses finally ceased last week.

Obamas Healthcare Reform Spells Disaster for Americans (Part 1) / Politics / US Politics
First, I want to point out that this article should by no means encourage support for the Republican Party. If you are not already aware, both parties deliver essentially the same results when it comes to issues that matter most to the people, such as the case with free trade and healthcare, while fooling you to think they represent opposing positions.

Obama and Democrats Drop the Health Care Bomb on American's / Politics / US Politics
As business owners undergo the yearly ritual of passing through eye-popping health insurance premium increases to their employees, it's easy to understand why any attempt at health insurance reform would be met with some degree of hope. Unfortunately, President Obama and his Democratic allies in Congress are about to take a very bad system and make it unimaginably worse.

Interview with Eva Golinger
Mike Whitney----The US media is very critical of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. He's frequently denounced as "anti-American", a "leftist strongman", and a dictator. Can you briefly summarize some of the positive social, economic and judicial changes for which Chavez is mainly responsible?

U.S. Takes a Significant Step Towards War with Iran / Politics / US Politics
United States House of Representatives - Statement Opposing the Iran Refined Petroleum Sanctions Act
I rise in strongest opposition to this new round of sanctions on Iran, which is another significant step toward a US war on that country. I find it shocking that legislation this serious and consequential is brought up in such a cavalier manner. Suspending the normal rules of the House to pass legislation is a process generally reserved for “non-controversial” business such as the naming of post offices. Are we to believe that this House takes matters of war and peace as lightly as naming post offices?

Bernanke Blamed for the Fiscal Mistakes of Congress, The Buck Stops Where? / Politics / US Politics
Last week, we witnessed Ben Bernanke's Senate confirmation hearings for a second term as Fed Chairman. The air was thick with hypocrisy, as Senators vied with each other to cast blame on the Fed Chairman for the fiscal mistakes of the Congress. As an overtly politicized figure who has looked to bolster the poll numbers of successive Administrations, Bernanke certainly should shoulder a large share of the blame for steering the United States towards the brink of bankruptcy; however, he did not act alone. Ironically, many of his co-conspirators are currently his harshest critics.

Healthcare Freedom or Healthcare Bureaucracy? / Politics / US Politics
The U.S. Preventive Task Force caused quite a stir recently when they revised their recommendations on the frequency and age for women to get mammograms. Many have speculated on the timing for this government-funded report, with the Senate vote on health care looming, and cost estimates being watched closely. Just the hint that the government would risk women's health to cut costs is causing outrage on both sides of the aisle.
