Capitalism Is Racist, More Crazy Keynesianism From Krugman / Politics / US Politics
I have come to expect wooly-headed partisanship from Paul Krugman instead of economic analysis, and that is one reason I started this blog. The other reason was that I want to have another source that attacks and exposes the Keynesian fallacies for what they are: dangerous nonsense.

U.S. Congress Passes Healthcare Reform / Politics / US Politics
Following months of heated public debate and aggressive closed-door negotiations, Congress finally cast a historic vote on healthcare late Sunday evening. It was truly a sad weekend on the House floor as we witnessed further dismantling of the Constitution, disregard of the will of the people, explosive expansion of the reach of government, unprecedented corporate favoritism, and the impending end of quality healthcare as we know it.

Two Corporations Run for Congress. Yes, I'm Serious / Politics / US Politics
You'd think this headline was from the satirical website, The Onion - but indeed brave Americans, we have entered the next logical step in our corporaticy (is that a word?). While a bit of a political stunt (kudos to the public relations firm), one can only imagine some corporations salivating at the thought. That said, why bother? Much better to continue the status quo & have their human puppets take all the flack while they collect all the rewards quietly in the background. This is actually a perfect book end to this morning's piece where Jon Stewart showed us all the things he could get away with in America, if he was a corporation rather than a human being.

The Economic Elite Versus The People of the USA / Politics / US Politics
Throughout this report, I have presented statistical and fact-based evidence to demonstrate that a strategic attack has been launched against 99% of Americans. Despite the efforts of the mainstream media and most current politicians, awareness of this reality is spreading throughout the United States.A recent Rasmussen poll found that only 21% of Americans think that the government has the consent of the governed. An Opinion Research Corp. survey revealed that 86% believe “the system of government is broken.”

The American Dream is Over, It Was A Wonderful Life / Politics / US Politics
“Just a minute - just a minute. Now, hold on, Mr. Potter. You're right when you say my father was no businessman. I know that. Why he ever started this cheap, penny-ante Building and Loan, I'll never know. But neither you nor anyone else can say anything against his character, because his whole life was - why, in the twenty-five years since he and Uncle Billy started this thing, he never once thought of himself. Isn't that right, Uncle Billy? He didn't save enough money to send Harry to school, let alone me. But he did help a few people get out of your slums, Mr. Potter, and what's wrong with that? Why - here, you're all businessmen here. Doesn't it make them better citizens? Doesn't it make them better customers? You - you said - what'd you say a minute ago? They had to wait and save their money before they even ought to think of a decent home.

U.S. Congress Supporting the War Instead of the Troops / Politics / US Politics
Last week, Congress debated a resolution directing the President to withdraw our troops from Afghanistan no later than the end of this year. The Constitution gives the power to declare war to the Congress, so it is clearly appropriate for Congress to assert its voice on matters of armed conflict. In recent decades, however, Congress has defaulted on this most critical duty, essentially granting successive presidents the unilateral (and clearly unconstitutional) power to begin and end wars at will. This resolution was not expected to pass; however, the ensuing debate and floor vote served some very important purposes.

The Extraordinary Writs / Politics / US Politics
Most people have heard about and have a cursory knowledge of The Writ of Habeas Corpus. That is but one of many.
The “Extraordinary Writs” ( Habeas Corpus, Prohibition, Mandamus, Certiorari, Attachment, et al., ), are the most powerful force in American Jurisprudence – and no individual – not even the President of the United States – is more powerful.

A Quarter Less than $1K, but Millionaires Rebound Smartly
I won't get into all the dogmatic arguments that surround the massive income disparity in the US, we've discussed them in many other pieces. (frankly I think wealth disparity - rewarding generations for nothing more than having the right genes - is a much larger problem the income disparity) We must however understand "it is what it is" and Wall Street has entire thesis (plural?) built around it [Sep 7, 2009: Citigroup - America; A Modern Day Plutonomy]

U.S. Election 2010, Republican Power Bubble / Politics / US Politics
Forgetful of their own blown reputation, the more warfare end of the Republicrat Party is celebrating its looming ascendancy from this year’s federal elections. Nothing has changed in America's two-party politics, from the Republican point of view, despite the ongoing economic disaster. Republicans are going to crush Democrats in November no matter what because America’s economy continues to crumble under Obama’s rule just as it did under George Bush’s rule.

Paul Ryan, the Man Who Could Save America / Politics / US Politics
Doug Hornig, Casey Research writes:Since the stunning result of the Massachusetts senatorial race, President Obama has softened his tone quite a bit, essentially saying to Republicans that if they have any good ideas, “Bring ’em on.”
Whether he’s sincere or not remains to be seen, but the implication is that he’s unworried, because in his opinion the opposition party only knows how to criticize and doesn’t have anything constructive to say.

Were the Founding Fathers Media Socialists? / Politics / US Politics
The Federal Communications Commission’s Chief Diversity Officer, Mark Lloyd, wants government to socialize the media. In his 2006 book Prologue to a Farce, Lloyd calls for a far-reaching government program that would straitjacket private media companies and funnel tens of billions of dollars into a tax-supported “public” media--an agenda shared by many of his associates. A massive nonprofit media run by the state would better inform Americans, Lloyd claims, although, feeling generous, he allows that “there should be a place for private communications services in a republic.”

Reconcile This! / Politics / US Politics
Reconciliation is one of those words that sounds great when used in another country
Right-wing whites along with the rest of the world embraced South Africa’s peace and reconciliation process as a way to put apartheid crimes on the record without a punitive witch-hunt that would intensify racial and political tensions. Archbishop Desmond Tutu chaired a panel to hear evidence without the power to execute or imprison or execute wrongdoers.

Obama Healthcare and Snow-cialism / Politics / US Politics
Vedran Vuk, Casey Research writes: There is a silver lining to every snowstorm - getting to know your neighbors both good and bad. With forty inches on my block this week, I've learned a lot about my neighbors and, strangely enough, socialism.
My corner of Baltimore seems like a good place to ride out a storm. After all, innumerable cars are plastered with Obama bumper stickers, and windows display signs like "Universal Healthcare Now." In essence, it's a very liberal neighborhood in an extremely liberal state. What better neighborhood to be in times of need, right?

Does anyone really believe that Toyota is being pilloried in the media for a few highway fatalities?
Nonsense. If Congress is so worried about innocent people getting killed, then why haven't they indicted US commander Stanley McChrystal for blowing up another 27 Afghan civilians on Sunday?
