Stock Market Overall Solid Week / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012
A week of wild events led first and foremost by the fiscal-cliff drama that literally came down to the final moments. If no deal had been worked out on New Year's Day this market would have taken it on the chin very hard. The Republicans were adamant that they would not accept a deal that wasn't inclusive of major spending cuts. That's exactly what the Democrats didn't offer. Didn't look good, but at the last moment the Republicans gave in stating they were concerned about the state of the markets considering how on the edge our economy is right now. They gave in and the deal was signed into law by President Obama. The market celebrated in a very large way to the tune of 300+ points on the Dow and nearly one hundred points on the Nasdaq. It was quite the day, which also set things up more bullish on the daily charts, but more on that later on in this report.

Stock Market Hopeful of Fiscal Cliff Agreement..... / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012
The stock market has been hoping for an agreement between both sides for quite some time. It began to look quite dismal for the prospects of getting something done. Neither side really seemed interested in doing what was right for the public but isn't that always the case. They probably still don't truly care, but there is an image and reputations at stake here, so it appears a program of some real substance will get done, one that actually includes both sides giving in some. Seems almost impossible to believe, but there is real hope that things will get done and done in a way where the public actually thinks it's not half bad. Never say there aren't any miracles. You are possibly witnessing one at this moment in time. If we get exactly what we need we should see higher prices in the stock market overall. Not straight up. Lots of head fakes up and down but overall higher. Let's see what we get over the next 24 hours and how the market responds to it.

Happy End to the 2012 Stock Market Roller Coaster Ride / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012
Courtesy of Doug Short writes: Despite the lack of a vote on the Fiscal Cliff issues, the constant stream of breaking news, comments from congressional sources and assorted tweets kept the markets in an upward trend on this last day of 2012. The S&P 500 closed the day with a gain of 1.69% to finish the year up 13.41%, the best performance in three years.

Stock Market Fiscal Cliff Meltdown Countdown / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012
I'm not worried, are you?
Congress sure doesn't seem worried as they aren't even coming back to work until 11 am this morning with only 13 hours left until 2012 ends and all those horrible, nasty things kick in. Of course, those horrible, nasty things, in summary, amount to paying more taxes and spending less money – isn't that what we need to do if we are ever going to get serious about paying down our debts?

Stock Market Nervous...Everyone Is.... Falling Off the Fiscal Cliff? / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012
How can you blame people for feeling anxious about falling off the fiscal cliff? There are so many bad things that come from such an event should it play out. Taxes will rise. Corporate America will stop even the thought of hiring. Jobs will be lost. People will feel insecure, even if they still have a job. Spending by the public will decrease, probably quite dramatically. The economy would be dealing with an instant and devastating shock to the system. Recession would be upon us immediately. It goes on and on.

Stock Market SPX Support Cluster is Broken / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012
SPX broke through its cluster of supports this morning, testing Hourly Cycle Bottom at 1400.21. Having completed yet another impulse, it is now retracing back to the 50-day moving average at 1413.17. This level will be attacked, since the loss of the 50-day support is a major breakdown. Once that support is lost for a second time today, selling should resume shortly with a minimum decline to 1344.00. The next model support is the next round number in SPX…1300.00.

Stock Market Cliff Limbo and Holiday Spending Confusion / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012
Courtesy of Doug Short writes: Christmas 2012 is now a memory and presumably congress and the president will be knuckling down to deal with the Cliff deadline, although the winter-weather flight cancellations may slow the process. Meanwhile, the market is biding its time. The S&P 500 opened fractionally higher and hit its intraday high, up 0.19%, in the first fifteen minutes of trading. The index then rolled over to its intraday low, off 0.72%, around 11:30 AM. The index then struggled its the low but buckled in the last hour of trading to a closing loss of 0.48%, the third consecutive finish in the red.

Stock Market Rally Fading....Nasdaq Leading Lower... / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012
Nothing good to say if you're a bull. The fact that the fiscal cliff is hanging perilously over the markets head is pushing the bulls away from getting too involved. Who can really blame them? The market has nothing good fundamentally behind it, so the path of least resistance is lower, unless we get a resolution and fast. The market and many stocks within it are getting close to big breakdowns. Apple Inc. (AAPL) cannot bid and is trying to start a breakdown below 505. It's having lower and lower closes, and this is not good. No bid whatsoever. AAPL and its brothers must start behaving better to lead the Nasdaq higher. Stocks, such as Priceline.com Incorporated (PCLN), Google Inc. (GOOG), Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN), and Intuitive Surgical, Inc. (ISRG). There's no way to know just how bad things will get, but the overall action is negative, and will worsen ahead of the 31st, if the market feels nothing is going to get resolved.

Stock Market All the "greater fools" are in. No one left to Buy / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012
Last Thursday’s mini-flashcrash in the overnight market was a wake-up call for the longs. The reason is that it took the sale of only 700,000 ES contracts to force a “limit down” in the futures. Of course, there was quite a scurry to get the ES back above support before the open. Nevertheless, the selling in the first hour of the 21st brought the trading volume above any full day’s volume in the past year.

Stock Market Rally Slows / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012
For the fifth consecutive week, the average performance of the eight world indexes on my watch list has been positive — this past week by 0.48%, down from the 1.2 plus percent averages of the two previous week. The top performer was Japan’s Nikkei 225, up 2.08%. The S&P 500 was a distant second, up 1.17%, which was surprisingly strong given the political stalemate over the potentially traumatic financial impact of the year end expirations of tax cuts and deductions and the government’s mandated spending cuts.

Our Leaders Disappoint...As Usual....Market Takes It Mostly In Stride...... / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012
You can never be disappointed too much or surprised all that much when our political leaders drop the ball and allow for things to deteriorate due to their enormous, pathetic egos. It's always about them and not the good of the people they serve. They don't have much to worry about financially or politically, thus, it's business as usual, even when there's a fiscal cliff hanging over our heads. It really doesn't mean all that much to them. Their safe, wrapped up in their little shell of protection. When it comes to the big decisions, ones where they have to put power and ego aside, they fail. It's really that simple. They just fail. It's been in going for what seems like our entire lives but we've learned to accept it as politics as usual. There comes a time, every now and then, however, when they have to come through big for the people they serve, and that's when their lack of soul shines through. This time, sadly, is no different.

Stock Market To Cliff or not to Cliff – That is the Question / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012
Here we go again!
We were moving along nicely when John Boehner decided to throw a temper-tantrum if he didn't get his way and his way is now know as "Plan B", which of course, sounds like the kind of thing a 10 year-old would come up with because that's the level we're now dealing with as the GOP is forced to show America their true colors as they throw the middle class and the poor under the bus to protect their wealthy benefactors – apparently at all costs.

Using Goldman and JP Morgan to Predict Stock Market Turning Points / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012
Goldman (GS)
A couple of stocks I like to follow are GS and JPM to forecast pivot turning points in the US stock markets, particularly the SPX.
You can see how JPM and GS appear to be tracking the SPX well and that it’s my belief that if we can track potential Elliott Wave counts in both Goldman and JPM, we can find an edge to the US markets and use that information to forecast major peaks and turns in the US stock markets.

Stock Market Santa Rally at Last? / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012
Courtesy of Doug Short. The markets got off to a great start from the opening bell, despite a surprisingly poor number in the pre-market Empire State Manufacturing Survey. By the mid-afternoon, however, the S&P 500 looked like it was following the familiar pattern of setting a mid-day high and retreating in the afternoon. But slowly the index gathered some steam, and the buying accelerated in the final 30 minutes of trading. The index closed the day with a gain of 1.19%, the best performance in sixteen sessions.

Stock Market Fiscal Cliff Happy Ending???....... / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012
That's what Wall Street is hoping for today or sometime very soon. A happy ending to what we all don't want to see happen regarding the fiscal cliff as the ramifications will be far reaching. Unemployment will increase as will outsourcing along with higher taxes. Fewer and fewer will feel any job security, thus, putting the economy into recession. If there's no resolution to the fiscal cliff, it's basically etched in stone we'll see at least a few quarters of recession, if not longer, potentially much longer. Washington knows what's at stake here. They may be incredibly stubborn, but they're not stupid, at least I don't think they are. We'll find out if they are as playing chicken as it won't be a very wise action on either sides part.

Stock Market C Wave Decline Probably Ahead / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012
Current position of the market
SPX: Very Long-term trend – The very-long-term cycles are down and, if they make their lows when expected (after this bull market is over) there will be another steep and prolonged decline into late 2014. It is probable, however, that the steep correction of 2007-2009 will have curtailed the full downward pressure potential of the 120-yr cycle.
SPX: Intermediate trend – SPX has made a top at 1474. A mid-correction rally is underway in the form of A-B-C. It is likely that wave B completed at 1439.

Stock Market Inflection Point Continues / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012
After the FED increased QE 3 from $40 bln/month to $85 bln/month on wednesday the SPX made a new uptrend high at 1439. After that the market pulled back for the rest of the week. For the week the SPX/DOW were -0.25%, and the NDX/NAZ were -0.35%. Foreign markets performed better, with Asian markets gaining 1.8%, European markets gaining 1.1%, and the DJ World index rising 0.6%. Economic reports for the week again displayed positive reports outpacing negative reports. On the uptick: business/wholesale inventories, retail sales, industrial production, capacity utilization, the monetary base, the WLEI, and weekly jobless claims improved. On the downtick: the budget/trade deficits worsened, export/import prices declined, and the CPI/PPI declined as well. Next week we get reports on Housing, PCE prices, and Q3 GDP, all during Options expiration week. Best to your holidays!

Stock Market Waiting....... / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012
Aren't we all! It's so disappointing to look at the market and wonder who will say what in order to move the market one way or the other. We all find it hard enough playing the market when things are normal. We don't need to be victims of news based on one specific topic, the fiscal cliff. One word positive or negative causes huge moves, and with no way to know who will say what and when. Anything you do carries a ridiculous amount of risk. One minute they say they're going to talk, the next minute they say they've made no progress. Up and down, down and up. Makes you sick. No way to get aggressive either way. Short too much and you get smoked. Go long too much and you get smoked.

This is Not a Picture of a Stocks Bull Market / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012
What a comeback for the Dow Industrials!
From a March 9, 2009, close of 6,547, the senior index climbed to 13,610 on Oct. 5, 2012.
Moreover, the Dow achieved this feat in the face of a weak-kneed economy, and it has grinded forward now for three and a half years.
