The Biggest Financial Deception and Scam of the Decade / Companies / Credit Crisis Bailouts

By: Jeff_Clark

Diamond Rated - Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleEnron? Bear Stearns? Bernie Madoff? They're all big stories about big losses and have hurt a lot of employees and investors. But none come close to getting my vote for the decade's most dastardly deception...

First came Enron, with $65.5 billion in assets, going belly-up and becoming the largest bankruptcy in U.S. history at that time. Chairman Kenneth Lay said that Enron's decision to file bankruptcy would "stabilize the company," but over the next five years the company was completely liquidated. The stock went from a high of $84.63 in December 2000 to a whopping 26¢ one year later.

New Upleg for General Electric GE / Companies / Company Chart Analysis

By: Mike_Paulenoff

My work continues to indicate that all of the action in General Electric (GE) off of its 12/04 high at 16.49 into Thursday’s low at 15.09 represents a correction of the prior advance from 14.15 (11/4) to 16.49 (12/4). Today’s powerful advance argues strongly that the corrective period is over and that GE has pivoted into a new upleg, which if accurate means that 1) the stock should head for a retest of 16.49 on the way to 18.00 and 2) that prices should NOT break below 15.09 again anytime soon.

Which Materials ETF Investing 2010 / Companies / Investing 2010

By: Richard_Shaw

Diamond Rated - Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleIf you chose to supplement your sector-diversified core US equities stock holdings with a diversified materials stocks ETF, which one is best for you?

There are nine possibilities, of which three, and maybe four, make sense at this time for our purposes and possibly for yours. Those exchange-traded funds are XLB, IYM, VAW and maybe MXI. They have more favorable profiles considering these three attributes:

Bullish Consolidation for JP Morgan / Companies / Banking Stocks

By: Mike_Paulenoff

JP Morgan (NYSE: JPM) has been treading water for the past few sessions, and just may continue to do so into Thursday's year-end close. That notwithstanding, the pattern suggests strongly that another upleg is approaching in the upcoming hours/days. For the past week all of the action in JPM appears to have taken the form of a bullish consolidation period in the aftermath of the recent upleg from 40.03 to 42.24. Let’s notice that the consolidation has found resistance just above 42.00 while support resides around 41.50.

Response to Goldman Sachs Expose / Companies / Credit Crisis 2009

By: Janet_Tavakoli

The New York Times published a Christmas Eve expose of Goldman Sachs’s so-called “Abacus” synthetic collateralized debt obligations (CDOs). They were created with credit derivatives instead of cash securities. Goldman used credit derivatives to create short bets that gain in value when CDOs lose value. Goldman did this for both protection and profit and marketed the idea to hedge funds.

Research in Motion (RIMM) Transitioning to New Upleg / Companies / Company Chart Analysis

By: Mike_Paulenoff

The stairstep decline in Research in Motion (RIMM) from last week’s high at 72.08 into this morning’s low at 66.45 has the right look of a completed correction of the prior upleg from 61.50. If my work proves accurate, then RIMM should be “in the turn” period now, transitioning into another upleg that will revisit 72 on the way to 74-75. Read full article... Read full article...

Four Ways to Profit From the World’s Shrewdest Government / Companies / Investing 2010

By: Money_Morning

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleMartin Hutchinson writes: Three powerful investment trends will separate the winners from the losers in the new year.

  • Global commodities prices will continue to move higher.
  • Emerging economies will outgrow their richer, more-mature counterparts.
  • And the countries that were stingy with their monetary and fiscal bailout plans will now reap the benefits; they will outpace the countries that slashed their interest rates to zero and allowed their deficits to soar.

HSBC (HBC) to Become First Non Chinese Company Listed in Shanghai / Companies / UK Banking

By: Trader_Mark

In early fall we had mentioned China potentially listing its first "outside of the country" company [Sep 11, 2009: China Opens Door to Foreign Listings] as the country takes baby steps in becoming a full fledged international monetary exchange of every sort (this will take many years).  Banking giant HSBC (HBC) noted it would want to be all over this...

General Electric GE in Consolidation / Companies / Company Chart Analysis

By: Mike_Paulenoff

While I was disappointed that General Electric (NYSE: GE) failed twice to follow-through to the upside from above its December resistance line in the vicinity of 15.90 and instead nosedived to 15.66 earlier this morning, my work argues that the weakness should be considered a correction in the aftermath of yesterday’s upmove from 15.55 to 15.94.
