Determining Oil and Gas Company Valuations / Companies / Oil Companies
By: Keith_Schaefer
How do valuations get set for oil and gas companies? I ask because I’m seeing very fast-rising valuations in the junior and intermediate oil sector that I cover. I have seen junior oil producers valued at $200,000 per flowing barrel recently – more than triple the peer group average.

The Utica, An Emerging Canadian Shale Gas Play / Companies / Natural Gas
By: Richard_Mills
Shale gas is natural gas that has been generated and trapped within the natural pores and fractures of shale. This natural gas has been accumulating because of the breakdown of high levels of organic carbon or kerogen within the shale. The right temperature, pressure and a lot of time - over millions of years - is needed to produce gas. Shale plays can hold enormous amounts of gas and once production has been stabilized gas wells from shales tend to have low decline rates and long production lives.

New Recovery High for Caterpillar CAT / Companies / Company Chart Analysis
By: Mike_Paulenoff
Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT) just hit a new recovery high of 60.00 off of its Dec low at 55.40 and appears poised to continue higher to confront the Oct-Jan resistance line at 60.40 next. The resistance line is the next challenge for the bulls as they look to thrust CAT out of a three-month, high-level consolidation period, which projects upside continuation to 64.00-65.00 next. At this juncture, only a decline that breaks and sustains beneath 58.50 will delay the timing of the anticipated upside breakout.

Which Financial Stocks ETF Is Best For You? / Companies / Investing 2010
By: Richard_Shaw
If you chose to supplement your sector-diversified core US equities stock holdings with a diversified financial stocks ETF, which one is best for you?
There are eight possibilities, four of which work for many investors, but only 2 (maybe 3) or 1 (maybe 2) of which work for large accounts. The fund that works for just about any account under $250 million is XLF. The other three funds are VFH, IYG and maybe IXG for some account. The four funds have more favorable profiles considering these three attributes in combination:

The Biggest Financial Deception and Scam of the Decade / Companies / Credit Crisis Bailouts
By: Jeff_Clark
Enron? Bear Stearns? Bernie Madoff? They're all big stories about big losses and have hurt a lot of employees and investors. But none come close to getting my vote for the decade's most dastardly deception...
First came Enron, with $65.5 billion in assets, going belly-up and becoming the largest bankruptcy in U.S. history at that time. Chairman Kenneth Lay said that Enron's decision to file bankruptcy would "stabilize the company," but over the next five years the company was completely liquidated. The stock went from a high of $84.63 in December 2000 to a whopping 26¢ one year later.

New Upleg for General Electric GE / Companies / Company Chart Analysis
By: Mike_Paulenoff
My work continues to indicate that all of the action in General Electric (GE) off of its 12/04 high at 16.49 into Thursday’s low at 15.09 represents a correction of the prior advance from 14.15 (11/4) to 16.49 (12/4). Today’s powerful advance argues strongly that the corrective period is over and that GE has pivoted into a new upleg, which if accurate means that 1) the stock should head for a retest of 16.49 on the way to 18.00 and 2) that prices should NOT break below 15.09 again anytime soon.

Bullish Consolidation for JP Morgan / Companies / Banking Stocks
By: Mike_Paulenoff
JP Morgan (NYSE: JPM) has been treading water for the past few sessions, and just may continue to do so into Thursday's year-end close. That notwithstanding, the pattern suggests strongly that another upleg is approaching in the upcoming hours/days. For the past week all of the action in JPM appears to have taken the form of a bullish consolidation period in the aftermath of the recent upleg from 40.03 to 42.24. Let’s notice that the consolidation has found resistance just above 42.00 while support resides around 41.50.

Response to Goldman Sachs Expose / Companies / Credit Crisis 2009
By: Janet_Tavakoli
The New York Times published a Christmas Eve expose of Goldman Sachs’s so-called “Abacus” synthetic collateralized debt obligations (CDOs). They were created with credit derivatives instead of cash securities. Goldman used credit derivatives to create short bets that gain in value when CDOs lose value. Goldman did this for both protection and profit and marketed the idea to hedge funds.

Research in Motion (RIMM) Transitioning to New Upleg / Companies / Company Chart Analysis
By: Mike_Paulenoff
The stairstep decline in Research in Motion (RIMM) from last week’s high at 72.08 into this morning’s low at 66.45 has the right look of a completed correction of the prior upleg from 61.50. If my work proves accurate, then RIMM should be “in the turn” period now, transitioning into another upleg that will revisit 72 on the way to 74-75. Read full article... Read full article...
