House of Frauds, Tory Lords of the Manor Expense Claims / Politics / US Politics
The Telegraph continued with its leaking of outrageous expense claims at tax payers expense, where the reaction from the Speaker of the Commons was to deride the media for publishing the content rather than on seeking to hold MP's to account, which is not so surprising given his own past track record of going on spending binges to the tunes of several hundreds of thousands at tax payers expense beyond his salary.

Debt Fuelled American Military Empire That Supports the Old World Order / Politics / US Politics
Those dastardly French! What arrogance! In 1789, they tried to destroy the Ancien Régime (read Old Order).
The Old Order is an aristocratic, social, and political system that prevailed in Europe between the 14th and 19th centuries. In it, power is held by the monarchy, the clergy, and the aristocracy, and society is divided into three Estates—the nobility, the clergy, and the rest of the people who are powerless. The Ancien Régime retains the privileges of both the nobility and aristocracy that existed in feudal times, and the people, whose lives have the value of mere livestock, exist only for the benefit of the state. The Ancien Régime is also militaristic, aggressive, and imperialistic. Wars are common, and between the reigns of Louis XIV and Louis XVI, France fought in at least 27 of them.

Requiem for the Republican Party / Politics / US Politics
The experts think the Republican party can get up off the canvas and stage a comeback, but don't bet on it. The poor GOP isn't really even a party anymore; it's more like a vaudeville troupe scuttling from one backwater to the next performing the same worn slapstick. They've simply become irrelevant, a "non-party" that no one pays much attention to apart from the occasional zinger on the Daily Show or Letterman. In truth, the GOP is so deeply-traumatized from their shocking fall from power, they'd probably benefit from a spell on the couch. Perhaps if they spent a few weeks in therapy, they'd see what a mess they've made of everything.

Swine Flu: When Government Plays Doctor / Politics / US Politics
This week, concerns about swine flu have dominated the media and many government officials. While the American people should be made aware of infectious diseases and common sense preventative measures, much of the hysterical reaction from government only serves to remind us how detrimental to your health it can be when government plays doctor.

United States Debt and Exporting of the U.S. Economy Abroad Silent Conspiracies / Politics / US Politics
I met Senator Ernest F. “Fritz” Hollings (D-SC) in 1985 in the aftermath of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. I had testified before the Rogers Commission after I leaked documents to the New York Times about NASA’s past knowledge of flaws with the O-ring joints whose failure caused Challenger to blow up. Later I told commission investigators and the press it was political pressure from the Reagan White House that likely caused NASA to overrule the engineers who tried to stop the launch.

Obama: the Grand Illusionist / Politics / US Politics
President Obama is smooth. He has an incomparable ability to say the correct thing and then doing the exact opposite. For instance, he says the United States cannot continue the boom bust cycle of economic activity and must repent from its proclivity to engender GDP growth off the back of building asset bubbles. He also contends that George W. Bush was disingenuously hiding the size of the true deficit by keeping certain items off budget. In those two statements he is completely correct.

American's 94 Years of Serfdom / Politics / US Politics
This April 15 is the 94th year that Americans have had to file an income tax. For most Americans, the day is a non-event. Most Americans never saw the money and have no real idea that they earned it.Read full article... Read full article...

Free Markets, It’s Time to Wake up America / Politics / US Politics
Free markets don't work, says Tim Geithner and Ben Bernanke. Indeed nearly all our government leaders say so; the G-20 too. The economy is a mess, but no worries because we got your back. We'll spend and print our way out of this economic crisis, then slap a whole heap of regulation on the bad guys to make sure they never hurt us again.Read full article... Read full article...

Barack Obama and the Altar of Greed / Politics / US Politics
David Michael Green writes: Barack Obama is dumber than a bag of hammers. I never thought I'd say that about the guy. I thought he would probably disappoint me with many of his policies. I thought he would probably fail to be bold enough for his times. I thought he might miss opportunities to do great things because of his seeming desire to be Mr. Rogers, complete with cardigan. But I never expected him to be really dumb.Read full article... Read full article...
