Metals and Mining Corporate Earnings Critical Crystal Ball for November 2010 / Companies / Metals & Mining
The global steel industry has had to bear the brunt of the uneven global economy and quite unlike the upbeat expectations harbored at the beginning of the year, both sale and price of steel is on the decline while raw material cost is on the upswing. The failure of the construction industry to regain its pre-recession status is adversely affecting the steel market although the auto and appliance industries have reflected a surge in growth. Global leader ArcelorMittal’s Q3 results reported a drop of 21% from Q2, although it reflected a 48% jump in profits YoY. The company expects steel shipments to increase in Q4 but selling prices are expected to fall.

Elections, QE2. Do news driven events like this matter?
From a technical standpoint they don’t. Although those events are most likely going to get us unstuck from the current trajectory of our current trend channel that we will say.

Stock Traders Eye on Qualcomm and Microsoft / Companies / Company Chart Analysis
Qualcomm (QCOM) is up about 2.5% today and after nearly a month of sideways digestion off of its Sep 30 high at 45.75 into Tuesday's low at 43.21 appears to have finally resumed its underlying uptrend from the July low at 31.51.
If such a scenario continues to unfold, then QCOM should be in the early portion of a new upleg that projects to the 48.00 area next. At this juncture, only a decline that breaks the Oct 26 low at 43.21 will invalidate the bullish scenario.

Agnico-Eagle Mines Limited: Record Quarterly Net Income of $121.5 million / Companies / Gold & Silver Stocks
Another record performance by Agnico-Eagle Mines Limited (AEM) on the back of high gold prices along with the completion of a number of quality projects should render the Eagle more than desirable in this sector of the market. And as the trend is to acquire more ounces on Bay Street through merger and acquisition activity, its a surprise to us that this company has not been the target of a take over move by one of the large caps.

How Investors Can Profit From Asia's Sparkling Luxury Goods Market / Companies / Investing 2010
I should be used to it by now, but I am always amazed at the conspicuous display of wealth whenever I travel to Asia. The signs of wealth are everywhere.
I see more people drinking $3 cups of Starbucks coffee in Shanghai than I see in Seattle. I see more ladies clutching expensive Louis Vuitton handbags in Beijing than in Boston. I see more iPods and iPhones in Hong Kong than in Houston. And I see more $200,000 Bentleys on the streets of Wuhan than in Palm Beach, Florida.

Upside Reversal for Bank of America BAC / Companies / Company Chart Analysis
The 4% upmove today in Bank of America (BAC) after it hit lows not seen since May 2009 (on the way up) so far looks technically significant.
My daily and hourly pattern and momentum work on BAC suggest strongly that the most recent downleg from the 14.00 area ended this morning at new multi-month lows at 11.03. The upside reversal (so far) has the "right look" of a significant upside reversal and recovery rally within the 14.00-11.00 price move.

Apple’s iPad Continues to Lead Its Rivals / Companies / Tech Stocks
Tony Daltorio writes: Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) reported sales of only 4.2 million units in its most recent quarter. That disappointed some investors, who then took it out on the stock.
But they forgot that iPad sales still look decent for an item only unveiled in January and introduced in April.

EWH, The Sexiest ETF Chart of the Week / Companies / Exchange Traded Funds
I spend most mornings trolling my wheelhouse of sites for charts that look interesting, giant cup of coffee in hand.
I tend to look over a large spread of different sectors, to really get a good lay of the land. This morning I found a chart that just can't be ignored... and what I liked about it even more than its technicals was where it's based.

Investment Bank Earnings Highlight Wall Street’s New Vulnerabilities / Companies / Banking Stocks
Martin Hutchinson writes: The collapse of The Bear Stearns Cos. and Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. (OTC: LEHMQ), the forced takeover of Merrill Lynch and the decisions by Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYSE: GS) and Morgan Stanley (NYSE: MS) to get commercial-banking licenses seemed to signal that the investment-banking business model was dead.
Since then, however, Goldman Sachs, in particular, has posted an astonishing run of profitability, earning gigantic sums even while the rest of the U.S. economy languished.

Apple (AAPL) releases earnings tonight after the close. If the stock pops 3-5% in reaction to earnings, the next upside target window is somewhere in the vicinity of 335-340, which will be well above the upper channel line off of its January 2009 low at 79.31.

EMC Retraces After Plunge / Companies / Company Chart Analysis
EMC Corp. (NYSE: EMC) has hit a high of 20.52 today, which represents a complete retracement of the plunge in prices last Wednesday and Thursday in sympathy with disappointing results from the cloud computing sector.
From a technical perspective, the ability of EMC to hold above 20.50 increases the likelihood that the current upleg from 19.39 will climb towards my next optimal near-term target zone of 21.00/15.
