Tackling Higher US Healthcare Costs / Personal_Finance / Healthcare Sector

By: Rodney_Johnson

In 2015, I thought my healthcare renewal statement was wrong.

The premium for my shrinking family of three (two adults and one child) was increasing by more than 30%, to $1,454 per month. My earnings place me out of the subsidy bracket, so these are real dollars out of our budget.

There were plenty of insurance companies to choose from. Shrinking availability was not a problem. It was just breathtakingly expensive.

Pensions Are On The Way Out But Retirement Funds Are Not Working Either / Personal_Finance / Pensions & Retirement

By: John_Mauldin

US law provides for many kinds of tax-advantaged retirement plans. They fall into two broad groups: defined-benefit (DB) and defined-contribution (DC) plans.

Defined-benefit plans are mostly the old-style pensions. They came with a gold watch and ensured you some level of benefit for the rest of your life.

Your employer would invest part of your compensation in the plan, based on some formula. In some cases, you, the worker, might have added more money to the pot.

  5. Retiring comfortably

It doesn’t matter what you do for a living or how much you make. I know people who have never made more than a five-figure income and are millionaires (true story—more on this later).

Savers Maximise the Personal Savings Allowance for Bigger Returns / Personal_Finance / Savings Accounts

By: MoneyFacts

As a new tax year approaches, savers may well be readying their cash to invest in a new ISA, but the latest research by Moneyfacts.co.uk reveals why savers should still consider maximising their Personal Savings Allowance (PSA) for bigger returns.
