Globalism Destroys America's Middle Class / Politics / US Politics
Jerome Corsi writes: A series of reports released by the Census Bureau this month make clear the income gap between the richest and poorest Americans is widening, as free-trade globalism destroys the U.S. middle class.
Red Alert has consistently warned that the current high rate of unemployment and the shrinking of the middle class are not the result of a current recession.

Washington’s Latest Terror Warning / Politics / US Politics
I believe America today is trapped inside a nightmare dystopian novel combining the worst of Brave New World and George Orwell’s 1984 where we are forced to endure perpetual war, pervasive surveillance and constant attempts at public mind control. The term "Pavlov’s dog" usually describes the conditioning of individuals or a population who merely react to a repeated situation rather than using critical thinking.

Free Markets Create Jobs / Politics / US Politics
In this struggling economy it is essential for politicians to take a step back and think about what government has been doing to business in this country. In less than 200 years, the free market, property rights, and respect for the rule of law took this nation from a rough frontier to a global economic superpower. Today, however, our nation and our economy clearly are headed in the wrong direction.

Financial Warfare and the Failure of US Military Leadership / Politics / US Politics
Damon Vrabel writes: The "War on Terror" has become the most successful military diversion in history, having lasted twice as long as WWII so far. While the US and other countries are under severe attack by financial powers through the corporate system and the currency and bond markets, the US military is convinced that people living in remote deserts are the threat. So they’re busy killing some of the poorest people in the world while the country is being attacked by the richest. On the one hand, this is a more impressive Machiavellian chess move than the Calais diversion in WWII that opened up the Normandy attack that would seal Germany’s fate. On the other, it’s just embarrassing to see how easily millions of grown adults can be fooled in the face of the obvious.

One Nation Marching on Washington / Politics / US Politics
I have been marching on Washington—and covering marches for more years that I can remember. As a kid, I was part of the original March on Washington back in ’63. It was for jobs and freedom.
The jobs part was soon forgotten when the event was reduced to four words, “I Have A Dream” in the historical memory. Dr King’s hope for a non-racial America was not the only message, but it is all we remember as anthemic and iconic. Also forgotten, it was an expression of a grass roots movement from below struggling against violent and racist opposition. It was there to showcase that movement, not make a movie.

U.S. Declares Trade War Against China / Politics / US Politics
The House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a bill giving the executive branch the power to impose punitive duties on exports to the US of any country whose currency is labeled “fundamentally undervalued.” The measure was pushed by the Democratic leadership and supported overwhelmingly by Democratic congressmen, with substantial Republican support.

The Big Secret about U.S. Healthcare / Politics / US Politics
Apparently, the use of scare tactics works well for a population whose minds have been hijacked by the corporate-controlled media establishment. For instance, a few years ago, President Bush and his neo-con clan used the WMD scare tactic in order to justify the invasion of Iraq. More scare tactics were used to pass the unconstitutional Patriot Act. (1) (2)

Remedies for Our Ailing Healthcare Policies / Politics / US Politics
What is the importance of $148 and $7,285?
Answer: Both represent the U.S. healthcare expenditures per capita: the former in 1960, the latter in 2007.
In 2007, the United States spent more per capita on healthcare than any nation in the world, excluding Luxembourg, Monaco, and Norway, which spent slightly more. Yet, the mortality parameters suggest otherwise: our worldwide ranking for life expectancy and infant mortality are 50 and 45, respectively.

House China Tariff Bill Will Take America Down the Wrong Road / Politics / US Politics
Keith Fitz-Gerald writes: The U.S. House of Representatives this week overwhelmingly passed a bill that would enable the Obama administration to impose punitive tariffs on almost all Chinese imports into the United States - a controversial move that's intended to punish China for refusing to revalue its currency.

Obama's War Against Pakistanis / Politics / US Politics
I watched an interview with Bob Woodward about his new book, Obama's War. It was mostly inside-dopsterish Woodward at his worst. But at the end a young anchor asked him what the U.S. attacks in Pakistan were going to produce in the near future. He smiled in his all-knowing and impish way, said he could not really say [of course], but "I think you should strap yourself in!" Translation: you ain't seen nothing yet, so hang on Sloopy and fasten your seatbelt for a wild ride ahead.

When The Taliban Calls, Should We Answer? / Politics / US Politics
There is a saying I may be twisting in the retelling to the effect of what you do unto others will be done onto you. In Karmic terms, it boils down to what goes around cones around. These thoughts come to mind as I wrestle with a dilemma that seems to be worming its way out of the soil of a country at war overseas and with itself.

America’s China Currency Bashing, A Compendium of Junk Economics / Politics / US Politics
It is traditional for politicians to blame foreigners for problems that their own policies have caused. And in today’s zero-sum economies, it seems that if America is losing leadership position, other nations must be the beneficiaries. Inasmuch as China has avoided the financial overhead that has painted other economies into a corner, nationalistic U.S. politicians and journalists are blaming it for America’s declining economic power. I realize that balance-of-payments accounting and international trade theory are arcane topics, but I promise that by the time you finish this article, you will understand more than 99% of U.S. economists and diplomats striking this self-righteous pose.

U.S.-China Trade Tensions Evident in Futile House Currency Bill / Politics / US Politics
Jason Simpkins writes: The U.S. House of Representatives today (Wednesday) will vote on legislation that would let the U.S. government take punitive actions against countries that undervalue their currencies.
The bill isn't likely to have any tangible impact on U.S. policy, but it's yet another manifestation of the growing friction between the world's two greatest economic powers.

Don’t Fear a Trade War With China / Politics / US Politics
The House Ways and Means Committee has just approved a bill that would attempt, albeit modestly, to crack down on Chinese currency manipulation, a key cause of America’s trade deficit. The Ryan-Murphy currency bill (HR 2378) would allow the Commerce Department to treat currency manipulation as an illegal subsidy for the purpose of calculating countervailing duties intended as retaliation. This bill has to be passed by the full House of Representatives and then the Senate before becoming effective, but already the prophets of doom are squealing about the dangers of starting a trade war with China. They are wrong.Read full article... Read full article...

U.S. Healthcare Reform: A Huge Misdiagnosis / Politics / US Politics
This week marked six months since Congress passed the healthcare reform bill in what has become all-too-typical legislative chicanery. Those in power crafted a mammoth piece of legislation and rammed it through Congress under a dire sense of emergency. Insisting on time enough to read the bill was dismissed as dangerous and crazy in a time of crisis. We were told that if we really wanted to see what was in the bill, we would have to pass it first. I cannot imagine the founding fathers intended for Congress to legislate in this manner. I would think if a Member is not absolutely certain the entire legislation meets Constitutional muster, the default vote should be "no" in accordance with our oath of office.

Obama and Congressional Democrats Trying to Blackmail China / Politics / US Politics
President Obama has just issued a blackmail to Prime Minister Wen Jiabao of China: "You immediately revalue the yuan or else..." According to an article of David E. Senger in The New York Times dated September 23, 2010, the two leaders met at the United Nations in New York and spent most of their two-hour session in a spare conference room, usually used by members of the Security Council, to discuss the currency issue. The session ended by Obama's issuing an ultimatum that is bound to be followed by trade war. Surely, this is a most unseemly use to which the sacred grounds of the Security Council, dedicated as it is to the maintenance of peace and prevention of war, have ever been put.

The Richest People in America, The Forbes 400 List 2010 / Politics / US Politics
Tom Eley writes: While 2010 has seen the vast majority of the US population suffer the consequences of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression—mass joblessness, wage cutting, plummeting home prices, record foreclosures, and spending cuts by near-bankrupt states and cities—for the handful of plutocrats who control the nation’s wealth it has been a very good year indeed.
