Money and The Truth about America / Politics / US Politics

By: John_Kozy

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticlePresident Obama has said that he will not allow people-programs to be cut so that the wealthy can receive tax cuts because our nation is "better than that." But what America is cannot be distinguished from its economy which exists merely to accumulate money. It's why the maxim is let the buyer, not the vendor, beware. But in an equitable economy, no one would need to beware. No banker will ever be prosecuted for the banking practices that brought down the economy, because if such questioning were allowed, the entire basis of the "American way of life" would be called into question. An economy whose primary concern is not the welfare of the people it serves will always require the people to live and die for some non-human goal. People will be used just like worker ants, and no one will really care when they fail to return after being sent off to do their prescribed jobs. To be subordinated to some non-human purpose is to be expendable.

America is the Prison Capital of the World / Politics / US Politics

By: LewRockwell

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleStephen Cox writes: After years of deficit financing, my state, California, is currently hurtling toward bankruptcy, the revenue from its savage personal income tax having been consumed, and over-consumed, by government employees' salaries and benefits. Yet in the midst of the budget turmoil, Governor Jerry Brown has just negotiated yet another Rolls Royce contract with one of the biggest beneficiaries of state government, the prison guards' union.

The Royal Wedding, America's Fascination With Royalty / Politics / US Politics

By: Walter_Brasch

In case you're in a funk because you think the reason you didn't receive an invitation to the royal wedding is because the Brits are still ticked off about that silly little skirmish back in 1776, the American media have a solution for you.

The media had been pumping out news, features, and gossip about the wedding for more than three months. Almost every radio, TV, and cable network, except for maybe the Cartoon Channel, will be covering the wedding on Friday. All. Day. Long.

U.S. National Debt, For A Few Dollars More / Politics / US Politics

By: James_Quinn

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleWhere life had no value, death, sometimes, had its price. That is why the bounty killers appeared. - For a Few Dollars More

"Tell me, isn't a sheriff supposed to be courageous, loyal and, above all, honest?" - Man with No Name - For a Few Dollars More
Whenever I get an idea for an article I plan to keep it short and sweet. But it never seems to work out that way. Once I start typing, the articles tend to grow exponentially.

Uncle Sam Borrows, China Invests / Politics / US Politics

By: LewRockwell

Today, change that to "the US borrows while China lends."

American Hellholes, the U.S. Economy is Dieing, there are simply No Jobs / Politics / US Politics

By: Chris_Kitze

Diamond Rated - Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleEconomic Collapse writes: The U.S. economy is dying and we are heading for the next Great Depression. The talking heads in the mainstream media love to spin the economic numbers around and around and they love to make it sound like the economy is improving, but the truth is that it doesn't take a genius to see what is happening to the U.S. economic system. All over the nation many of our greatest cities are being slowly but surely transformed into post-apocalyptic wastelands. All over the mid-Atlantic, all along the Gulf coast, all throughout the "rust belt" and all over the entire state of California cities that once had incredibly vibrant economies are being turned into rotting, post-industrial hellholes.

U.S. Troops Died in Vain in Iraq / Politics / US Politics

By: Laurence_Vance

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleSince the beginning of the war in Iraq, I have unequivocally maintained several things about the deaths of U.S. troops. Every one of the 4,450 U.S. soldiers who has died so far in Iraq has died unnecessarily, senselessly, for a lie, and in vain.

Barack Obama, The President Who Became an Actor / Politics / US Politics

By: Finian_Cunningham

If Ronald Reagan was known as the actor who became a president, then perhaps Barack Obama should become known as the president who became an actor.

For every facial movement evinced, every gesture of the hand, every word enunciated by the 44th president turns out to be a complete charade.

What Makes a Great President Great? / Politics / US Politics

By: Michael_S_Rozeff

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleGeorge W. Bush only ranks 34th in the recent surveys of the greatest Presidents of the United States. Since there are but 40-43 of these magnificents in total, Dubya is way down there. Why?

What is greatness in a U.S. President, hereafter simply called a President? There is no scientific definition, although the more scholarly polls have criteria of greatness. These need not detain us. The polls themselves tell us what Americans think makes a great President, and it is against the implicit criterion that we observe in the data that we discover that Dubya’s low standing is an anomaly.

The Establishment Train Is Going Off a Cliff / Politics / US Politics

By: Gary_North

Diamond Rated - Best Financial Markets Analysis Article"A billion dollars doesn't go as far as it used to." – Bunker Hunt, 1980

That was Mr. Hunt's comment on his losses – at least $2 billion – in his attempt to profit from the silver market, which peaked at $49.50 in January 1980. The price fell by 75% over the next few months. Win some, lose some. At the time, he was regarded as the biggest financial loser in modern history. This was accurate, since seven years earlier, Mohammar Gadaffi had nationalized his oil operations in Libya. At the time, Hunt was the richest private citizen on earth. When Gadaffi got away with this in June of 1973, OPEC caught on and tripled the price of oil in October. That led to a worldwide recession in 1974-75. Win some, lose some.

United States Land of the Free, Indeed / Politics / US Politics

By: Jeff_Berwick

Woe is us. There is nary a nation state on the planet where a man can be free. The entire planet is a cobweb of governments, police, taxes, laws, rules and regulations.

It is with great sorrow that much of the population of the planet now has Stockholm syndrome. They've grown to adore and fawn after their captors. Billions flock to see their slave masters inaugurated or wed. Prince William of Wales has taken a bride, they shout! What a glorious day!

Conventional Education Will Go the Way of Farming / Politics / US Politics

By: Douglas_French

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleFood is vital for survival, yet less than 2 percent of America's population works in agriculture. That's a big change from 100 years ago, when over 40 percent of the workforce was toiling away on the farm. If I had been born at the start of the 20th century in Kansas, rather than at the end of the 1950s, no doubt my life would have been spent on the farm.

Why We Are Totally Finished, Corporatocracy Has Replaced Capitalism / Politics / US Politics

By: D_Sherman_Okst

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleIn A Nutshell: Corporatocracy Has Replaced Capitalism

Capitalism Fixes Problems & Preserves Democracy: Capitalism is what we should be relying on to fix our problems. Capitalism has it's own ecosystem, just like biology's ecosystem. An economic ecosystem that weeds out the weak, has parasites that eat the failures and new bacteria that evolves and grows replacements for that which failed. A system that keeps everything in balance.

The Revolving Door Between Washington and Wall Street / Politics / US Politics

By: Trader_Mark

Best Financial Markets Analysis Article

As regular readers know, there is a fast track revolving door between Washington D.C. and Wall Street.  All part and parcel with a captured government run for a small cabal of corporations and their leadership.  After all corporations are people too - the Supreme Court says so.  There is a lengthy but insightful story in New York Magazine on the latest to make the transition from D.C. to Wall Street - Peter Orzag.  Actually the piece intertwines the fate of Robert Rubin and Orzag, but really if we're talking Rubin, Orzag, Summers, Daley, Paulson, et al - the names can simply be interchanged.
