Channel 4 News Vendetta Against UKIP Backfires, Brit's Don't Like Bully's! / ElectionOracle / Mainstream Media
UKIP politicians and candidates have been literally hounded for over a year. Whilst most viewers enjoy the usually slimy and slippery politicians being held to account by veteran broadcast journalists such as Jeremy Paxman. However where UKIP is concerned, and by Channel 4 News in particular, the mainstream media have gone too far, where tuning into Channel 4 News virtually every other day reveals an usually inexperienced UKIP candidate being goaded into a particular response by a smug faced Michael Crick or Krishnan Guru-Murthy amongst others.

Video Killed The Rhetoric Star / Politics / Mainstream Media
Hymns, Literature and Rhetoric
The well-known (to some) British academic George Saintsbury, Professor of Rhetoric and English Literature at several universities during his long career said that wine is like prosody and prosodic expression in the sense that steering away from the known to the unknown is always best. In English prosody and in rhetoric, from hymns to poems, speeches and other verbal communication based on written scripts Saintsbury stressed the role of spaces and voids, pauses, and unstated but implied ideas. Rhetoric of any kind, political or other, uses a similar tactic for example by arsis or raising and emphasising the voice either throughout the speech, or occasionally distorting or 'slipping' the pronounciation of a few key words or even a key slab of the written speech.

Mainstream Press Amazingly Deceptive Headline on U.S. Debt / Politics / Mainstream Media
Reporters and their editors (and the corporations that employ them) have the power to shape readers’ perceptions by, for instance, choosing what fact to put first in a story or which expert to quote in what context. But the most powerful tool is the simplest: the headline. Because many people read only that, and many others have their perception of an article shaped by the first words they see, this sentence fragment is frequently as important as everything that comes after.

The Fall of Mainstream Media - When Propaganda Fails, Humanity Awakens... / Politics / Mainstream Media
It doesn't happen often, but The New York Times (NYT) has truthfully reported on something recently.
On what did it report? Well, on itself, and how alarmed it is due to its own increasing irrelevance in the face of new sources of information.
NYT is well-aware of the "New Media," as a 96-page internal report, sent to top executives last month, makes clear. Obtained by Buzzfeed, the report "paints a dark picture of a newsroom struggling more dramatically than is immediately visible to adjust to the digital world, a newsroom that is hampered primarily by its own storied culture."

Mainstream Financial Press - All The News That's Fit To Print in 2014 / Politics / Mainstream Media
The most astounding rubbish is spoken every day by central bankers and other commentators who hold a monopoly on what the public at large knows. Most of the New York Times column (below) in 1929 fits today and is worth more refection than the next hundred speeches by Federal Reserve Chairman Janet Yellen.

Bubbleberg News Drivel Masquerading as Financial Reporting / Stock-Markets / Mainstream Media
David A. Stockman writes: One of the evils of massive over-financialization is that it enables Wall Street to scalp vast “rents” from the Main Street economy. These zero sum extractions not only bloat the paper wealth of the 1% but also fund a parasitic bubble finance infrastructure that would largely not exist in a world of free market finance and honest money.

NBC, RT, Propaganda Rules The News / Politics / Mainstream Media
Gerald Celente calls the Western media “presstitutes,” an ingenuous term that I often use. Presstitutes sell themselves to Washington for access and government sources and to keep their jobs. Ever since the corrupt Clinton regime permitted the concentration of the US media, there has been no journalistic independence in the United States except for some Internet sites.

Ukraine Mounting Tensions, World at Boiling Point Exacerbated by News Media / Politics / Mainstream Media
The tensions in Ukraine continue to mount. Russian reports wrestle with Western ones, which are solidly aligned in demonizing Russia while concealing hard facts underlying a Western-engineered coup. I'm afraid independent writers in the West (and Russia too) submitting balanced opinion will find few venues available to them now; fewer friendly editors courageous enough to brave censure at the hands of our Western version of the "state-controlled" press. "War fever" - induced by major papers, AP, Reuters, etc., - infecting both conservatives and liberals - means McCarthyism II will no doubt be resurrected and enforced in short order. Dossiers from NSA Utah will help sort critics and dissenters from patriots.

TV Propaganda and the Mind Control Culture / Politics / Mainstream Media
Few subjects present an undisputable window into modern society than the electronic version of reality that is dispensed through television broadcasts. This technology does not require interactive skills or critical thinking acumen. Just watch and fall into a daydream trance. TV is the stealth killer that penetrates 114.7 million American households. According to Nielsen, the 2012 Universe Estimate (UE), reflects a reduction in the estimated percent of U.S. homes with a television set (TV penetration), which declined to 96.7 percent from 98.9 percent. Should this turn down suggest promise or is it merely a result of internet substitution?

Peter Schiff on How The Daily Show Trapped Me / Politics / Mainstream Media
When I accepted “The Daily Show”’s invitation to be interviewed about my opposition to a minimum wage increase, I knew that I was walking into a trap. But given how counterproductive I know such an increase would be to those the law proposes to help, I took the risk anyway.

A Television Snow Job / Politics / Mainstream Media
With more than a foot of snow, sleet, and ice falling over much of the nation, the television news teams went into overdrive. This may be an accurate description of one of those minute-by-minute broadcasts.
“I’m Harry Hansom. Co-anchor Polly Prattle just called. Her car slid into a ditch about eight miles from the studio. Fortunately, she had her roller-blades, and is skating furiously to get here so she doesn’t lose a day’s pay. We begin our Team Weather Coverage with chief meteorologist Hugh Miditty.”

The Mainstream Media Makes and Changes History / Politics / Mainstream Media
"The Economist's Sell Signal," (November 30, 2013) critiqued the "The Perils of Falling Inflation," in the magazine's November 9, 2013, issue. "The Perils" attempted to erase history, an effort to protect the central-banking version of history from criticism.
In Bull by the Horns: Fighting to Save Main Street from Wall Street and Wall Street from Itself, Sheila Bair, the former FDIC chairman, described an enlightening encounter with The Economist. In that instance, a malignant diatribe was published, either sanctioned or produced by the sieve of banks, bank regulators, globe-hopping bureaucrats, and politicians who fashioned it.

NewsSpeak - Al Jazeera and Russia Today Propaganda or Factual Reporting? / Politics / Mainstream Media
Only a public relations genius would roll out a news channel in the domestic American TV market with the name Al Jazeera. Sparing no expense, this new leap into sober journalism has not been seen since the formation of regional news bureaus in the days when CNN was a serious network. The Current TV purchase, financed by the Qatar government, shows that money can buy glitz and glamour, when reporting from the trenches of global conflicts or personal tragedies. Notwithstanding, hiring known retreads or celebrity has-beens, the cast of characters that will present this new version of reality, needs to earn creditability for the public to overlook the image of the corporate logo.

German Politicians, Media Defend the Egyptian Army Massacre / Politics / Mainstream Media
Peter Schwarz writes: The reaction of German politicians and the media to the massacre carried out by the Egyptian army against supporters of ousted President Mohamed Mursi ranges from subdued criticism to outright support.
All comments, including those critical of the army, refrain from calling for the resignation or overthrow of the military-controlled regime. Instead, they call on the Muslim Brotherhood to reconcile itself with the military and work with them. Their aim is to maintain the power of the military as the Egyptian bourgeoisie’s main instrument of class rule.

Western Media Justifies Israel Terror Attacks on Syria Exposing Propaganda Hypocrisy / Politics / Mainstream Media
An Israeli plane bombs a target in Syria. The news is passed along first to Fox News, (huh?) by someone in the Administration.. It happened on a Thursday, but we find out about it late on Friday. The New York Times assigns three reporter to cover the story that goes up on the website in the middle of the morning on Saturday.
Earlier that day, President Obama, speaking in Costa Rica, said there will be no US ground troops on the ground in Syria. Now, the Administration says it is considering “military options.”

At Years End: Look Back At The News of 2012 / Politics / Mainstream Media
New York, New York: The TV Networks are hard at work in this last week of the year recapping their best footage to remind us where we’ve been. Researchers are combing the archives to find the best images for their annual greatest hits “package” which usually ends with a photo-montage driven by music of the politicians, entertainers and personalities who died in 2012.

When Propaganda Masquarades as News / Politics / Mainstream Media
Prof. James F. Tracy writes: The week-long Israeli onslaught against largely defenseless Palestinians in Gaza that began on November 14 provides a basis for assessing how Western corporate media whitewash the war crimes of America’s foremost ally in the Middle East. There are three often intertwined techniques consciously applied to such news coverage—historical context, sourcing, and objectification of the enemy to be targeted. Such practices can readily transform journalism into propaganda that acts to abet such crimes while at the same time allowing journalistic institutions to still claim the mantle of “objectivity.”

New York, New York: Back in the 1960’s, A British poet, Adrian Mitchell, one of the great bards of that era, wrote a poem that went on to become a stage show in the West End of London. It was called Tell Me Lies about Vietnam and represented one voice among millions in the world then opposing that War
It was addressed, “To Whom It May Concern” and began with words that became its refrain:

Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Today's Journalism / Politics / Mainstream Media
Louis: Hola Doug. What's on your mind this week?
Doug: The color yellow. As in "yellow journalism" – which seems almost the only kind we have these days. Of course, to be fair, inflammatory, shamelessly dishonest "man bites dog" journalism has always been the dominant kind, simply because it sells papers. But we'll see more than the usual amount in the next couple of months, simply because elections lend themselves to it; politics seems to stimulate the reptilian part of the brain, the most primitive part. Both politics and the reptilian brain relate well to the yellow press.
