The New York Post, a Rupert Murdoch tabloid publication that isn’t likely to win a Pulitzer Prize anytime soon, splashed a full page picture of a smiling Jennifer Anniston on its Sept. 21 front cover. In the upper left-hand space it placed all-capitals text: “BRANGELINA 2004–2016.” Inside the Post were four full consecutive pages, and a half page and part of a column deeper in the newspaper, all devoted to one of the most critical social issues facing the country—Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are getting a divorce.

The existing social order likes things just as they are.
They reap ill-gotten riches, wield unchecked power, and control the minds of the masses. They are the invisible government consciously manipulating the minds, habits and opinions of the multitudes in order to dominate society, control the levers of government, and accumulate obscene levels of wealth through manipulation of the currency and domination of the banking and corporate interests.

Going in, we readily admit this is likely not to be a popular read with many folks. However, to adapt the famous saying of Patrick Henry, the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of tyrants and patriots. We use the saying purely in a metaphorical fashion in this instance. In our article, you can substitute the patriot’s blood with the carcasses of those who at first championed liberty, but now have become what they most despised. History is replete with examples of men both big and small of championing a cause only to end up right back where they started – only this time they’re looking at themselves in the mirror.

Several TV networks covered the entire Rose Parade.
ABC, NBC, RFD, the Hallmark network, and Univision had frequent interruptions to unleash commercials on us. The Home and Garden network ran the two hour parade uninterrupted—except for endless on-air self-promotion about HGTV and its programs.

The Texas board of education didn’t find anything wrong with a world geography textbook that said slaves from Africa were workers, but that immigrants from northern Europe were indentured servants.
This is the same school board that five years ago demanded that textbooks emphasize that slavery was only a side issue to the cause of the civil war, and that Republican achievements be emphasized in political science and civics textbooks.

For more than a decade, advertising, circulation, and news quality in both print and electronic media have been in a downward spiral. That spiral has twin intertwining roots.
The first root is the rise of social media. The complacent and stodgy print media were slow to catch onto the concept and rise of social media and its influence upon a generation that conducts its life by a fusion of smart phones to ears. When owners figured out they needed to have a digital presence, they first gave away content in a desperate bid to keep readers, and then began to charge for it to those who didn’t have subscriptions.

On Monday, Nov. 2, every National Geographic staffer was told to report to the magazine’s Washington, D.C., headquarters the next day to await a phone call or e-mail from Human Resources.
Ever since Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox corporation bought the magazine in September, there were rumors the new owner would maximize profits by terminating employees. Those predictions came through when Management fired 180 people, and told dozens of others they were being offered “voluntary buy-outs.”

The social culture is driven by the embodiment of an unceasing drumbeat of disinformation; spoon fed prevarications and carefully shaped distortions, projected by a mass media that is in the tank for protecting the ruling elite. The myth that the press is endowed with an inherent courage to confront the establishment has been laid bare for any honest observer to witness. I grew up behind the iron curtain in the 1970s in communist northern Canada with a black and white TV that you actually had to get up to change the channel on the knob. The knob had theoretically 13 channels but only 4 of them actually had anything on them.
One was the government propaganda channel, CBC, the other was CTV and then there was some sort of local channel and there was also something on channel 13, if memory serves, but it mostly looked like a snowstorm through the rabbit ears.

Last night it came on after the football game I was watching and the opening story was about the infrastructure crisis in this country. I thought I’d give it a chance. After five minutes of propaganda, mistruths, false story lines and interviewing an ultimate insider hack lobbyist for corporate America, I turned on a more realistic truth telling show – The Simpsons.

Press and broadcast media, or “public information” was, called The Fourth Estate or fourth leg of the state, which itself can have an animal image, whether rabbit, elephant, cow or other. In Ancient Rome, the state was symbolized as a female wolf feeding the people with Capitolian milk.
As the fourth leg of the state, the press and media supposedly feeds the people with all that is right to know - and think - guarding intact and supporting all dominant social paradigms using selected information able to serve and defend the elite. The Fourth Estate was always considered suspect by freethinkers, radicals and the left.

In a highly predictable article slavishly supporting Israel's blitzkrieg in Gaza, but starting to have doubts about it, the 'Wall Street Journal', July 29, has the bare-faced audacity to tell its readers that the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr has been “tinged with sadness”. The Eid brought a brief lull in the fighting between Israel and Hamas “but instead of the customary feasting and celebration families were counting their dead and injured”. They were of course only “tinged” with sadness.

American Press Blames Russia for Downed Malaysia Flight MH17 / Politics / Mainstream Media

Overshadowing news of the BRICS summit of July 16 and Israel's ground offensive in Gaza on July 17, came breaking news that Malaysia Air flight MH17 crashed in Eastern Ukraine near the Russian border with 298 people on board of which 154 were nationals from the Netherlands. The flight originated in Amsterdam destined for Kuala Lumpur. While proof was not forthcoming about the cause of the accident during the day, media-induced speculation quickly emerged that it was shot down by either Ukrainian forces or by pro-Russian separatists in Eastern Ukraine. Within hours after the tragedy, U.S. media overtly alleged without substantiation Russian complicity. By evening, unidentified American intelligence and military officials said the plane had been destroyed by a Russian SA-series missile.
