Obamacare Taxes Will Hit Your Wallet January 1st / Politics / Taxes
Tara Clarke writes: Even if Obamacare hasn't altered your insurance coverage, it will affect your taxes. The new healthcare law brings the largest set of tax law changes this country has seen in more than 20 years.
According to the Government Accountability Office, the IRS must implement a total 47 statutory provisions under Obamacare. And Obamacare's $1 trillion in total tax increases will hit drug companies, Health Savings Accounts, health insurers, employer-based health insurance, and more.

Ron Paul - Internet Sales Tax Could Crush Small Businesses / Politics / Taxes
One unique aspect of my homeschool curriculum is that students can start and manage their own online business. Students will be responsible for deciding what products or services to offer, getting the business up and running, and marketing the business's products. Students and their families will get to keep the profits made from the business. Hopefully, participants in this program will develop a business that can either provide them with a full-time career or a way to supplement their income.

The Only Legal Way to Escape US Taxes Besides Death and Renunciation / Politics / Taxes
By Nick Giambruno, Editor, International Man
When I hear about strategies that purport to legally allow US citizens to avoid having to pay income taxes, the first thing that usually comes to mind is that it is some sort of dodgy cockamamie scheme.
This is because the US government is no slouch when it comes to shaking down its citizens for every penny it can get away with. The mind-boggling spending on welfare and warfare policies necessitates this. It would be dangerously foolish in the extreme to think you could slip one past them.

California’s Government Has Destroyed the State With High Taxes / Politics / Taxes
The mayor of Los Angeles has declared a “state of emergency”.
Hollywood’s movie industry is being ceded to other states and countries whose favorable tax “credits” are increasingly luring away movie and television production. As competition both in the US and abroad continues to grow, the state’s market share and longtime stronghold on production jobs and spending are fast evaporating.

A Tight Tax Leash Constrains American Citizens / Politics / Taxes
By Nick Giambruno, Editor, International Man
Many readers are already well aware that the US government is essentially unique—and not in a good way—in how it treats its citizens living and working in foreign countries. No other country in the developed world imposes and effectively enforces as many burdens on its citizens abroad (and those who would do business with them) as does the US government.

Death Taxes - Don't Make the Same Mistake Tony Soprano / Personal_Finance / Taxes
Greg Madison writes: We were all shocked by the sudden, untimely death of James Gandolfini. Gandolfini was an immensely gifted actor who changed the face of television entertainment in the role of Anthony "Tony" Soprano, a deeply troubled gangster-in-therapy, who had to balance obligations to his family... and his Family.
By all accounts, James Gandolfini was generous and kind to family and friends alike. It has been reported that he left a large legacy, in excess of $70 million, to be divided between them. His net worth is an estimate, and his asset inventory hasn't yet been disclosed, but he did alright for a middle class kid from North Jersey.

What Level of Taxation Is Too Much? / Politics / Taxes
By Nick Giambruno, Editor, International Man
You are technically a slave when 100% of the fruits of your labor is taxed or otherwise confiscated by force. So, at what percentage are you not a slave?
When you consider the totality of the countless direct and indirect taxes on the local, state, and federal levels in the US, as well as the pernicious effects of inflation – the hidden tax – many of us are at least already halfway to 100%.

IRS Most Outrageous Abuses / Politics / Taxes
Greg Madison writes: The IRS scandal of allegedly targeting conservative groups for extra scrutiny may just be the tip of the iceberg. Unanswered questions abound about the powerful agency's involvement in Obamacare and partisan politics.
Using the IRS as a presidential pit bull is a fine old bipartisan tradition going back to Franklin D. Roosevelt's administration and refined by Richard Nixon.

iAvoid - Apple Is a Tax Dodger… You Should Be, Too / Companies / Taxes
Alexander Green writes: There was a collective gasp in some quarters last week when it was revealed that technology giant Apple avoided taxes on billions of dollars in offshore profits. CEO Tim Cook will almost certainly catch plenty of flak in the weeks ahead.
But shareholders can breathe easy. Apple is unlikely to pay an extra cent in taxes.

iAvoid - Apple's New Pay No Tax App / Politics / Taxes
There has been an angry uproar recently because Apple has hardly paid any extortion fees in the last four years on its billions in profits. Why this warrants an angry uproar and not a giant cheer for them for not supporting criminal governments is beyond us. But the slave-on-slave action has been thick on this one.
One particular comment on a mainstream site caught my attention, "If our budget geniuses in Congress would hire enough IRS agents, this stuff would stop. But our beanies are cutting IRS budgets. Mitt's servants along with Bill Gates's are doing their job."

Apple's Devious New Way to Dodge U.S. Taxes / Companies / Taxes
David Zeiler writes: The record $17 billion Apple bond offering this week will do more than just placate shareholders eager to get some benefit from the company's $144.7 billion in cash.
It will help Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) avoid paying taxes, a feat that the Cupertino, CA tech giant has elevated to a high art.

Check Out Who's Hiding $32 Trillion in Offshore Tax Haven Accounts / Politics / Taxes
More than two million emails that shed light on the biggest tax dodge in history - trillions of dollars hidden in offshore accounts - have been uncovered by the British newspaper The Guardian and the Washington, D.C.-based International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ).
Some $32 trillion has been hidden in small island banking hubs which host a bevy of trust funds, shell corporations and other tax havens, the Tax Justice Network estimates.

U.S. Government Set to End tax Free Internet Shopping / Politics / Taxes
David Zeiler writes: A controversial Internet sales tax moving through Congress will mostly benefit big corporations and state governments while hurting thousands of small businesses and consumers.
The Marketplace Fairness Act would essentially end tax-free Internet shopping by forcing online retailers with revenue of $1 million or more to collect sales taxes for the states in which their customers reside.

Taxation Is Theft / Politics / Taxes
Andrew P. Napolitano writes: With a tax code that exceeds 72,000 pages in length and consumes more than six billion person hours per year to determine taxpayers’ taxable income, with an IRS that has become a feared law unto itself, and with a government that continues to extract more wealth from every taxpaying American every year, is it any wonder that April 15th is a day of dread in America? Social Security taxes and income taxes have dogged us all since their institution during the last century, and few politicians have been willing to address these ploys for what they are: theft.

The Government Wants Your Money or Your Life / Politics / Taxes
April 15th is a horrible day, because it sums up all the wealth destruction called taxation that we are subjected to all year long.
As Murray Rothbard pointed out, taxation is the worst method of looting us. Inflation is destructive, of course, and it might make a loaf of bread cost $10. But at least you get a loaf of bread. With taxation, you get nothing—except theft and other violations of our civil liberties.

How Giant Companies Get Away with Paying Virtually No Taxes / Companies / Taxes
David Zeiler writes: Even though the United States has the highest corporate tax rate in the world, many American companies pay little or nothing in taxes - and some even get refunds.
That doesn't mean that U.S. companies necessarily cheat Uncle Sam, but the steadily falling amount of corporate taxes paid has clearly helped boost profitability.

Now the Government Wants to Track and Tax Your Mileage / Politics / Taxes
Keith Fitz-Gerald writes: I love Oregon so much I gladly put up with its hypocritical governor, its out of control budget, its quirky liberal tendencies, its high personal income taxes, its hopelessly anti-business environment, and its progressive health care system.
But here's where I have to put my foot down: Oregon officials are now proposing a special per- mile tax on "gas-sipping" drivers.

Fiscal Cliff Deal Averts Disaster… But Now What? / Politics / Taxes
Keith Fitz-Gerald writes: [Singapore] - It's late Tuesday evening and I'm about to go on air with CNBC Asia in Singapore regarding the impact of the Fiscal Cliff bill which passed minutes ago after Republican leaders decided not to try and tack on amendments nor engage in further bickering.
Passed by a 257 to 167 vote, the bill is now headed to the White House and a draft may even be on the President's desk by the time you read this.

Gerard Depardieu Escapes Envy-driven, Socialist French 75% Tax / Politics / Taxes
When Socialist President Francois Hollande took office, he swiftly made good on his pledge to raise the top tax rate on Frenchmen who earn a million euros a year – to 75 percent.
The regime would now confiscate three of four dollars that the most successful Frenchmen earned. Paris also imposes a wealth tax on assets worth more than $1.7 million.

Fiscal Cliff Means 50% Tax Rates for the Middle Class / Politics / Taxes
Keith Fitz-Gerald writes: If I didn't know any better, I'd think there's a small but growing group of people in Washington who think it would actually be good if we temporarily went over the fiscal cliff.
I say that because I am seeing a smattering of articles recently suggesting that somehow going over the cliff "won't be all that bad" or that we're "really just talking about cuts that need to happen in the first place."
