3 Reasons to Get Excited about Japanese Stocks / Stock-Markets / Japanese Stock Market

By: EWI

Dear Investor,

Is this sleeping giant ready to offer opportunities for investors?

Anyone investing since the 1980s knows the boom and bust story of Japan and its Nikkei stock index. The Nikkei peaked just below 39,000 in 1989. Once known as a leading economic power, Japan's "bubble economy" burst, and for the last 25 years it has been in and out of recession and suffered a gut-wrenching deflationary environment. The Nikkei spent several years below 10,000, dashing any hope for investors.

Dr. Steve Sjuggerud writes: The last 19 trading days in Japan have been CRAZY...

First, the Japanese stock market was up 12 days in a row. (I'm talking about Japan's Nikkei 225 stock market index.)

It was the longest stretch of consecutive days of gains in 27 years in Japan.

Nikkei Japanese Stock Index Set To Get Smashed / Stock-Markets / Japanese Stock Market

By: Austin_Galt

Of all the indexes I cover, there is no other stock market that I am more bearish about than the Japanese index, the Nikkei. But let’s be under no illusions. The massive bear market that has been in force since the 1989 top is done and dusted.

Let’s take a top down approach to the analysis beginning with the yearly chart.

Two Stocks Perfect for Japan Demographics Crisis Anti-Trend Play / Companies / Japanese Stock Market

By: Money_Morning

Keith Fitz-Gerald writes: The really great thing about following our “Unstoppable Global Trends” is that there are many ways to invest in each of them. The possibilities are endless, as is the profit potential.

Take Demographics, for example.

We’ve talked a lot about what’s happening in Japan right now and the conditions there that make it the perfect “Anti-Trend” investment. Between the crushing debt, the aging population, the lack of a workable immigration policy, and decades of abysmal fiscal policy working against it, the country is in trouble – thus my recommendation to short the currency via ProShares UltraShort Yen (NYSEArca:YCS).

Japan Stock Market Flash Crash Signals Things are Changing / Stock-Markets / Japanese Stock Market

By: Anthony_Cherniawski

All eyes are on Europe this morning as Mario Draghi makes even more promises that he cannot keep. Expect more of the same out of Europe.

However, the real story is on the other side of the globe as the Yen makes its final plunge to its target, having barely missed its upper range target of 87.06. The final fifth wave is not yet finished, so we could see a further decline as today progresses.

To See How Stock Market Turns Out, Here’s What Happened in Japan / Stock-Markets / Japanese Stock Market

By: Profit_Confidential

Michael Lombardi writes: If you want to see how this all turns out in the end, I’m talking about the Federal Reserve’s program of printing over $1.0 trillion a year in new paper money (something that’s never happened in history), we need not look any further than the Japanese economy.

Why? Because the Japanese economy collapsed about 15 years before our credit crisis collapse of 2008. What we are doing now (artificially low interest rates, deep government debt, and money printing), the Japanese did years ago.

Japan Nikkei Stock Market Today Parallels Dot-Com Bust - The Sock Puppet Kabuki / Stock-Markets / Japanese Stock Market

The Japanese stereotype of excessive courtesy is being confirmed by the actions of prime minster Shinzo Abe who is giving the world a free and timely lesson on the dangers of overly accommodative monetary policy. Japan Stock Market Investing - It's Not A Bet If You Can't Win / Stock-Markets / Japanese Stock Market

By: Submissions

The reactions to the $314 billion, 7.3% plunge in the Nikkei last week were, let's say, for the best part amusing. The army of experts and analysts stood at the ready to name the external factors that made it happen (by the way, that army seems to have grown a hundredfold or so over the past 5 years, or is that just me? So where's the added quality?). Some blamed it on something Bernanke did or did not say, some on the Dow's drop (0.5%?!) the day before, and others on weakish China's manufacturing numbers. Very few addressed Japan's own internal issues. But that's still where Japan's problem lies, and what can and will lead to more of that volatility.

The Stocks Bull Market Almost Everyone is Missing / Stock-Markets / Japanese Stock Market

No, I’m not talking about the U.S. market, which is in the midst of its own three-and-a-half-year upswing. I’m talking about Japan. The Nikkei 225 – Japan’s equivalent of our S&P 500 – has surged 12% over the last eight weeks. In my view, this is just the beginning of a powerful move higher. Yet almost no one is on board. Opportunity of a Decade in Japan’s Overlooked Stock Market / Stock-Markets / Japanese Stock Market

By: Yiannis_G_Mostrous

Japanese stocks have long tempted value-oriented investors who hope to capitalize on the sclerotic Japanese market’s eventual turnaround. Unfortunately, those gains have proved largely elusive due to the global economy as well as reasons endemic to Japan.

Last year, Japan suffered a devastating earthquake and tsunami in March that led to power shortages that further impaired economic activity. At the same time, the yen’s appreciation and the EU’s sovereign-debt crisis weakened demand for Japanese exports, while flooding in Thailand disrupted the supply chain for global technology companies, including those in Japan.

Japan Stock Market Bearish Trigger Whilst Everyone Is Watching Europe / Stock-Markets / Japanese Stock Market

By: Adam_Brochert

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleI have been closely following the Japanese Nikkei Stock Market Index ($NIKK) lately waiting for it to break down below the neckline of a big "head and shoulder-y"-type topping pattern that has been going on for over 2 years now. Well, this week it finally broke on a weekly basis. Ignoring other important global markets is a mistake for American and European traders. The fact that Japan broke down this week means there should be very little weight given to the bullish case for common equities in my opinion (unless this break down quickly reverses course, which seems unlikely at this point).

Sun Rising Over Japanese Stock Market / Stock-Markets / Japanese Stock Market

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleScanning the globe for investment destinations can be a daunting task. When it comes to stock markets, however, relative strength analysis serves a useful purpose of highlighting under- or outperforming markets (or individual stocks) at a glance. Having perused a bunch of these charts, the Japanese situation stands out as being of particular interest.

Firstly, let's look at the long-term chart of the Nikkei 225 Average. Japan's stock market had an extended multi-year rally that started in earnest in the 70s and accelerated sharply in the 80s. The Nikkei peaked on December 29, 1989 at 38,915. During the devastating deflationary period that ensued the average dropped by a massive 80.5% to 7,607 on April 28, 2003. The Nikkei staged a recovery from 2003 until 2007 when the sub-prime fallout came into play.

Japanese Stock Market Ripe for Advance / Stock-Markets / Japanese Stock Market

A 13% appreciation of the Yen (vs US$) since June, a relief rally in oil (down) approaching quickly, and a bullish intermediate-term price pattern indicate strongly to me that "Japan Inc" and the Japan iShares ETF (AMEX: EWJ) are ripe for the emergence of a powerful advance. The enclosed daily chart of the EWJ shows the upside pivot off of last week's low at 13.18, which my work indicates inaugurated a new upleg that should propel the EWJ to the top of the 18-month pattern above 14.70. Only a plunge that takes out 13.18 wrecks my current outlook.
