Has Obama Changed His Mind About Syria? / Politics / US Politics

By: Mike_Whitney

The ISIS siege of Kobane continued overnight while cities across Turkey were set ablaze by Kurdish protestors. At least 19 civilians were killed by Turkish riot police who were trying to disperse angry crowds that had gathered to protest the government’s unwillingness to defend the predominantly Kurdish city.  According to Hurriyet, “The worst violence was seen in Diyarbakır during a reported gunfight between the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) supporters and Hizbullah, a radical Islamist group whose members are mostly Kurdish and who allegedly aided the state in the torture and killing of Kurdish activists in the 1990s.” (Hurriyet)

American the Broken State and How to Fix It / Politics / US Politics

By: Casey_Research

The United States of America is not what it used to be. Unsustainable mountains of debt, continuous meddling by the government and Fed to “stimulate the economy,” and the US dollar’s dwindling status as the world’s reserve currency are very real threats to Americans’ standard of living. Here are some opinions from the recently concluded Casey Research Fall Summit on the state of the state and how to fix it.

Marc Victor, a criminal defense attorney from Arizona and a staunch liberty advocate, says there’s really no such thing as “the state”—“it’s just some people bossing other people around.”

America is Truly a Country Run for the Few / Politics / US Politics

By: Paul_Craig_Roberts

The Bureau of Labor Statistics headline this morning reads: “Payroll employment increases by 248,000 in September; unemployment rate declines to 5.9%.”

How can this be? US corporations are investing in buying back their own stocks, not in new business ventures that produce new jobs.

According to the Census Bureau’s Poverty Report, US real median family income has declined to the level of twenty years ago. Consumer credit and real retail sales are not growing. Construction is limited to rental units. Construction shows 16,000 new jobs, half of which are “specialty trade contractors” or home remodelers.

Obama Abandoning the Saudis for Iran and Dooming the Petrodollar - Video / Politics / US Politics

By: Casey_Research

By Alex Daley, Chief Technology Investment Strategist

I sat down with Jim Rickards, author of many best-selling economics and investing books, including his latest, titled The Death of Money. In this exclusive interview, Jim shares his view on the changes in US foreign policy—the newly announced partnership with Iran to help fight ISIS and recent moves away from the petrodollar deal with Saudi Arabia—and what they mean for the dollar, gold, and investment markets in general.

U.S. State Sponsored Assassination Culture / Politics / US Politics

By: BATR

The ongoing failures of the Secret Service to provide proper protection for the President have political careerists in a tizzy. Scares that harm could come to the commander-in-chief, also worries the press. Ordinary citizens on principle, accept that the White House should be secure grounds. Rotating blame usually means that the buck does not stop on the oval office desk. Indeed, who could expect any President to be responsible for their own safety? Surely, policy decisions made as a government could not possibly have any bearing on the lunatics that harbor ill will towards our fearless leaders.

Nihilism And The Unknown Future / Politics / US Politics

By: Andrew_McKillop

Reject Everything
Nihilism, as US president Obama said in August 2014 following the decapitation of journalist Jim Foley is most certainly ISIS in Syria and Iraq  - but he called it an ideology, when in fact it is a non-ideology. Nihilism denies all “conventional knowledge” and “conventional reality”. The only possible future, the nihilists say, will be “exalted” or “ecstatic”. Otherwise, there is no future.

Nihilism is the path to nowhere for the punk killers of ISIS who meander from town to town and cut off human heads in town squares, to thrill the crowd here and there, but nothing more than that. Until the “ecstatic moment”, life will be a shadow play, for ISIS of a threatening and macabre type.

The Quick Slide From Hope to Despair As War Returns--If It Ever Went Away / Politics / US Politics

By: Danny_Schechter

New York, New York: On the Sunday, the world came together to demand climate justice with massive marches of solidarity and positivity.

On the Monday, the UN prepared for its global climate summit with more than l00 Heads of State, some there as ornaments, others as advocates for changes in environmental conditions that threaten the survival of many nations and peoples.

On the Monday afternoon, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry called climate change Washington’s number  #1 priority.

Bread, Circuses and Bombs - Decline of The American Empire / Politics / US Politics

By: James_Quinn

"Already long ago, from when we sold our vote to no man, the People have abdicated our duties; for the People who once upon a time handed out military command, high civil office, legions -- everything, now restrains itself and anxiously hopes for just two things: Bread and Circuses." - Juvenal - Satire (100 A.D.)

Roman satirist and poet Juvenal was displaying contempt for a degraded Roman citizenry that had shunned civic responsibility, shirked their duties of citizenship within a republic, and had chosen to sell their votes to feckless politicians for assurances of bread and circuses. Rather than govern according to noble principles based upon reason, striving for public policies that led to long term sustainability and benefitting the majority of citizens, politicians chose superficial displays and appeasing the masses utilizing the lowest common denominator of "free" food and bountiful spectacles, pageants, and ceremonies in order to retain power.

Ron Paul - Congress Votes for More War in the Middle East / Politics / US Politics

By: Dr_Ron_Paul

Last week, the House and Senate voted to rubber stamp President Obama's war plans for the Middle East. Both bodies, on a bipartisan basis, authorized the US to begin openly training and arming the rebels who have been fighting for three years to overthrow the Assad government in Syria.

Although the Syrian government has also been fighting ISIS and related extremist groups for three years, the US refuses to speak to the Syrians and has warned Assad not to interfere with the coming US attack on sovereign Syrian territory

Obama Declares War on Syria, Why the Real Target is Assad Not ISIS / Politics / US Politics

By: Mike_Whitney

Invoking the same ominous language as his predecessor, Barack Obama used a prime time presidential address on Wednesday to announce the beginning of a war on Syria. And while there’s no doubt that many Americans will be confused by Obama’s misleading focus on the terrorist organization named ISIL, the real purpose of the speech was to garner support for another decade of homicidal conflicts in the Middle East. The administration is as determined as ever to plunge the region into chaos, erase existing borders, and install its puppets wherever it can. ISIL–which is mainly an invention of western Intel agencies and their treacherous counterparts in the Gulf– conveniently creates the justification for another bloody invasion followed by years of occupation, subjugation, and revolt.

As More U.S. Bombs Drop, Empire Begins Fall / Politics / US Politics

By: Michael_T_Bucci

On Wednesday evening, September 10, 2014, hours before the thirteenth anniversary of 9/11, President Obama announced his decision to bomb Syria and deploy more troops inside Iraq. While the February events in Kiev could be seen marking the EU's capitulation to neo-fascism in Europe in submission to Washington's hegemonic diktats, Obama's arrogant militancy as presently expressed should be viewed as the beginning of the fall of American Empire. Whether it falls this year, the next, or in three to five years, it will end through military defeat, economic collapse and by forces from within that will - by necessity - fight for self-survival against their own government and their sectarian political oppressors and opponents.  America will then inherit the mantle that Germany endured for over fifty years following World War II. At that, the rotating sphere of world dominance will have completed its cycle. Unipolar will be dead. The sun will have set in the West and risen in the East. Many will die fighting against the inevitable. Many will blame everyone but themselves.

The Scotland Black Swan / Politics / US Politics

By: Raul_I_Meijer

Got a mail from a friend in Scotland late last night that got me thinking. “Unfortunately, using Ireland as a model of fracture, we may start blowing up each other.” I’ve been reading a lot lately, in between all the other things, about Scotland, as should be obvious from my essay (Jim Kunstler tells me I can use that word) yesterday, Please Scotland, Blow Up The EU, and sometime today a thought crept up on me that has me wondering how ugly this thing is going to get. I think it can get very bad.

ISIS is More Menacing Than Russia

President Obama Has No Middle East Strategy? Good! / Politics / US Politics

By: Dr_Ron_Paul

Last week President Obama admitted that his administration has not worked out a strategy on how to deal with the emergence of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) as a dominant force in the Middle East. However, as ISIS continues its march through Syria and Iraq, many in the US administration believe it is, in the words of Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, a threat "beyond anything we have ever seen."

U.S. Empire’s Bumpy Ride / Politics / US Politics

By: Stephen_Merrill

If you are one of those defeatist-type Americans, always alarmed over the dire fate of the US economy, actually believing 2 + 2 = 4, it may be best not to shift your glance to the state of US foreign policy today.

Obamaville’s geopolitical stance is harder to grasp than a BLS formula for unemployment is.

And if the thought is, quaintly, of defending the US shores and citizens you are decades behind the curve.

By: Jack_D_Douglas

Ferguson: The Iraq, Gaza War Comes Home / Politics / US Politics

By: Dr_Ron_Paul

America's attention recently turned away from the violence in Iraq and Gaza toward the violence in Ferguson, Missouri, following the shooting of Michael Brown. While all the facts surrounding the shooing have yet to come to light, the shock of seeing police using tear gas (a substance banned in warfare), and other military-style weapons against American citizens including journalists exercising their First Amendment rights, has started a much-needed debate on police militarization.

Obama Fails As Schoolyard Bully / Politics / US Politics

By: Raul_I_Meijer

When I think about what an American president should do, and should be, the first thing that pops into my mind is (s)he should be a peacemaker. It would seem to be the no. 1 requirement for someone who’s the leader of the most powerful nation on the planet, and therefore the leader of the free world.

If that person is not a peacemaker, if (s)he is not focused on diffusing trouble and violence when and where they rear their ugly heads, how could the entire world possibly not be in a state of perpetual warfare? But here we are, there’s no such American leader in sight, and the prospects of one appearing anytime soon are zero.

Iraq, Ukraine - Oh, What A Tangled Mess We Weave / Politics / US Politics

By: Raul_I_Meijer

When first we practise to deceive!

The upper echelons in and behind various governments have had on their radar far longer than the media that serve them, and I also realize that Washington wants a leading role in that battle, but even then I still don’t really get what is going on these days.

I think perhaps that’s because I tend to give the American political machine too much credit when it comes to intelligence and insight and other qualities its managerial staff doesn’t exactly seem to be drowning in. But still. I get the idea that most of what Washington does is based on what someone I read today calls ‘solution selling’, and what I know as ‘the completion backward principle’.
