After 'Brexit,' Can the United States Exit a Few Things Too? / Politics / US Politics

By: Dr_Ron_Paul

Last week's UK vote to leave the EU may have come as a shock to many, but the sentiment that led British voters to reject rule from Brussels is nothing unique. In fact it is growing sentiment worldwide. Frustration with politics as usual, with political parties that really do not differ in philosophy, with an economy that serves the one percent at the expense of the rest of society is a growing phenomenon throughout Europe and in the United States as well. The Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump phenomena are but one example of a frustrated public sensing something is very wrong with society and looking for a way out.

Donald Trump vs The First Amendment / Politics / US Politics

By: Walter_Brasch

If Donald Trump should become president, don’t expect his administration to be a transparent one or one that tolerates dissent and believes in the First Amendment.

At his campaign rallies, even those held at public venues, he forbids, according to his press advisories, “homemade signs, banners, professional cameras with a detachable lens, tripods, monopods, selfie sticks, back packs or large bags.”

The Lies That Sustain US / Politics / US Politics

By: Barry_M_Ferguson

America has one of the best and fastest growing auto manufacturers in the world and no one seems to know the company. Let me explain.

The US D.O.P.E. (Department Of Pathological Embellishment - a.k.a. the ‘Commerce Department’) just put out some great news that was so obviously meant to stem the now 3-day selloff in stocks. The great news is americans are spending money like drunken sailors on leave. Of course, anyone with a brain cell knows very well that the DOPE is simply a vestige of Nazi-ism in that it is a propaganda wing of a regime intent on deceit. So, to make us happy, or to make us believe all is well, we are told that consumers are spending money and the economy is about to take off!!! Isn’t ‘next quarter’ always going to be the quarter the economy heats up?

Fascism: A Bipartisan Affliction / Politics / US Politics

By: Dr_Ron_Paul

If neoconservatives and progressives truly understood fascism, they would stop using the word as a smear term. That is because both groups, along with most political figures and commentators, embrace fascist ideas and policies.

Fascism's distinguishing characteristic is a "mixed economy." Unlike socialists and communists who seek to abolish private business, fascists are content to let business remain in private hands. Instead, fascists use regulations, mandates, and taxes to control business and run (and ruin) the economy. A fascist system, then, is one where private businesses serve politicians and bureaucrats instead of consumers. Does the modern American economy not fit the definition of fascism?

Senators Embedded Within a Brain Fog / Politics / US Politics

By: Walter_Brasch

The U.S. Senate—under the leadership of Mitch McConnell who once said his primary mission was to see that the Senate didn’t agree with anything President Obama said or did, and to limit him to one term—continues to be one of the nation’s leading obstructionists. This time, the Senate isn’t meeting to advise or consent to the President’s nomination of Chief Judge Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court.

Garland was valedictorian in his class at Harvard College and a magna ***** laude graduate from the Harvard law school. He worked in the Department of Justice before becoming the chief judge on the D,C. Court of Appeals, having been confirmed by the Senate, March 1997.

Here’s Where the TSA Got This One Wrong / Politics / US Politics

By: Rodney_Johnson

My wife hates to fly. It’s not the planes that bother her, although she’s no fan of turbulence. It’s the security process. There’s something about passing through a low-level X-ray machine that can see through your clothes that gives her the willies. Who can blame her?

And then there’s the Transportation Security Agency (TSA) agents themselves. Why is it that six or seven seem to be just hanging out while three of them work one security machine, as 200 people wait in line?

Alan Greenspan Warns That Venezuelan Style Martial Law Will Soon Come To The US / Politics / US Politics

By: Jeff_Berwick

It seems barely a day passes now without some big name person warning of imminent collapse.  The latest is Alan Greenspan.

In an interview on Thursday he told Fox News that Venezuela is now under martial law and that “America is next.” He said that what was happening in Venezuela was inevitably going to take place in the US.

Long Live the Flags of Dixie! / Politics / US Politics

By: Antonius_Aquinas

On May 19, the House of Reprehensibles passed a proposal that would essentially ban the display of Confederate flags from national cemeteries.  The amendment was added to a Veteran Affairs spending bill.

Not surprisingly, House Speaker Paul Ryan allowed the measure to be voted upon in hopes of not disrupting the appropriations process.  Yes, by all means Paul, the redistribution of taxpayers’ confiscated wealth should take precedent over a draconian attempt to eradicate a heroic symbol of the country’s past.  Hopefully, Ryan will be ousted this November as both Speaker and Congressman for not only his consistent sell out to Obummer and the Democrats on the budget, but his lack of understanding and appreciation of what is arguably the most important period of American history.

This Is Not The America My Parents Immigrated To In 1957 / Politics / US Politics

By: James_Quinn

Not that I remember what America was like in 1957, as I was not yet five years old. Years later, when I was old enough to understand, they told me their story. Briefly, it goes like this.

Dad was born in Romania (Czernowitz in Northern Bulovina), but he identified (haha) as German because, well, his dad was German, his mom was German, they spoke German and kept German customs, and lived in a German community so, applying the “quacking duck” theory, that’s what he was. Mom was born in Yugoslavia (now, Slovenia), but she identified as German for the same reasons as dad did. The Nazi regime would refer to folks such as my parents as “Volksdeutsche” —- being German as a people or race, regardless of citizenship. More on that  here.

Memorial Day Crocodile Tears from Those Who Create Wars / Politics / US Politics

By: Walter_Brasch

A few million Americans may be thinking about it, but won’t be celebrating Memorial Day. For them, there’s not much to celebrate or to remember.

They’re the low-wage employees who may have to work all three days, without overtime; about three million workers earn the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour. Many work 30 to 35 hours a week, just low enough that their employers don’t have to pay for insurance, holidays, or sick leave. The corporate CEOs, of course, will be enjoying the long weekend at their alternate vacation homes in the mountains, or along the coasts, or at off-shore islands where they have found banks willing to hide their money and avoid U.S. taxes.

Senate Passes Bill Letting 9/11 Victims Sue Saudi Arabia / Politics / US Politics

By: Stephen_Lendman

The despotic Saudi regime is guilty of many high crimes. 9/11 isn’t one of them, the mother of all false flags, Washington responsible, perhaps complicit with Israel’s Mossad.

Bin Laden and Riyadh had nothing to do with what happened. Osama was dying in a Pakistani hospital at the time, expiring months later from natural causes.

War, Debt, Default and Socialism - Just Another Day In America / Politics / US Politics

By: Jeff_Berwick

I've accepted that there are evil forces in this world that will do what they can to destroy you and your family in order to build globalism. From the Brussels bombings to the Panama Papers to the ongoing Syrian massacres and turmoil in the Middle East and the refugee crises, it is all planned out.

People have a hard time with that insight. It's very difficult to live with the idea that the top controllers of Western society are actively trying to kill you or at least destroy the society you live in.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew: Puerto Rico Needs Urgent Action / Politics / US Politics

By: Bloomberg

U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew discusses Puerto Rico's debt crisis and corporate inversion deals in an exclusive interview with Bloomberg's Erik Schatzker at the Milken Institute Global Conference.

Lew on the need for urgent action in Puerto Rico: "Puerto Rico doesn't have decades. Puerto Rico has a crisis today. Right now, today in Puerto Rico, you have hospitals that have laid off hundreds of workers, closed beds, closed wings. You have a Zika problem developing without the funds to come in and prevent the disease from spreading. You have schools that are closing. You have broad economic stress that's leading people to leave the island. Almost 100,000 people left Puerto Rico last year. Let's just be clear, there's three and a half million American citizens, many veterans -- American citizens living in Puerto Rico. If Puerto Rico doesn't have a solution, that's three and a half million Americans who are plunged into chaos. That's why the need for action is so urgent."

One Year After: Freddie Gray and ‘Structural Statism’ / Politics / US Politics

By: Mike_Whitney

When Freddie Gray was born in 1989, Baltimore hosted 787,000 residents and 445,000 jobs. By the time his fatal injuries in police custody provoked riots last April, the city’s population had fallen by one fifth, to 623,000, and its job base had shrunk by one quarter, to 334,000.

Little wonder that throughout his life, Mr. Gray had never been legally employed. Nevertheless, friends and family considered him “a good provider,” according to The Baltimore Sun.

America’s Ignorant and the Offended / Politics / US Politics

By: Barry_M_Ferguson

“If you've got a business. you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen.” - Barack Obama

It takes an ignorant person to offend everyone.

America has become the land of the ignorant and the offended. Citizens remain profoundly ignorant of truth and everyone seems to be chronically offended. Maybe if people weren’t so ignorant, they wouldn’t be so offended.

Vietnam War at 50: Have We Learned Nothing? / Politics / US Politics

By: Dr_Ron_Paul

Last week Defense Secretary Ashton Carter laid a wreath at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington in commemoration of the "50th anniversary" of that war. The date is confusing, as the war started earlier and ended far later than 1966. But the Vietnam War at 50 commemoration presents a good opportunity to reflect on the war and whether we have learned anything from it.

Some 60,000 Americans were killed fighting in that war more than 8,000 miles away. More than a million Vietnamese military and civilians also lost their lives. The US government did not accept that it had pursued a bad policy in Vietnam until the bitter end. But in the end the war was lost and we went home, leaving the destruction of the war behind. For the many who survived on both sides, the war would continue to haunt them.

Climate Change Deniers, Loretta Lynch, and the Government War on Free Speech / Politics / US Politics

By: Dr_Ron_Paul

During her appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee last week, Attorney General Loretta Lynch admitted that she asked the FBI to examine whether the federal government should take legal action against so-called climate change deniers. Attorney General Lynch is not responding to any criminal acts committed by climate change skeptics. Instead, she is responding to requests from those frustrated that dissenters from the alleged climate change consensuses have successfully blocked attempts to create new government programs to fight climate change.

President Obama Peddling Fiction, Ignoring Fact / Politics / US Politics

By: Peter_Schiff

In his seventh, and final, State of the Union address this January, President Obama, clearly looking to bolster his legacy as the president who vanquished the Great Recession, boldly asserted that "Anyone claiming that America's economy is in decline is peddling fiction." Unfortunately for the President, more and more Americans seem to believe (with an adequate basis in proof) that the fiction is emanating from the White House.

Ron Paul - Is U.S. Congress Declaring War on ISIS...or on You? / Politics / US Politics

By: Dr_Ron_Paul

Passage of Senator Mitch McConnell's authorization for war against ISIS will not only lead to perpetual US wars across the globe, it will also endanger our civil and economic liberties. The measure allows the president to place troops anywhere he determines ISIS is operating. Therefore, it could be used to justify using military force against United States citizens on US territory. It may even be used to justify imposing martial law in America.

Deep State: Inside Washington's Shadowy Power Elite - Video / Politics / US Politics

By: Jesse

“Our plutocracy, whether the hedge fund managers in Greenwich, Connecticut, or the Internet moguls in Palo Alto, now lives like the British did in colonial India: ruling the place but not of it. If one can afford private security, public safety is of no concern; to the person fortunate enough to own a Gulfstream jet, crumbling bridges cause less apprehension, and viable public transportation doesn’t even compute. With private doctors on call and a chartered plane to get to the Mayo Clinic, why worry about Medicare?”― Mike Lofgren, The Deep State: The Fall of the Constitution and the Rise of a Shadow Government
