The Brewing Shale Gas Energy Boom That Nobody is Talking About / Commodities / Natural Gas

By: Money_Morning

Dr. Kent Moors writes: While folks back in the U.S. were sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner, I was making my way back to Frankfurt, Germany from Warsaw, Poland.

My discussions in the Polish capital were with the PGNiG, the national state-run gas company and the government's designated partner in all domestic drilling operations.

Natural Gas Commodity Trading Trade Idea / Commodities / Natural Gas

By: David_Banister

Recently we wrote about Natural Gas ETF UGAZ on the ATP Free Blog site as a sample of buying the dip or using the “cup with handle” dip buying for profits. Our November 11th article discussed waiting for a pullback to the 30-31 ranges on UGAZ and then going long for a reversal.

Shale Gas Will be the Next Market Bubble to Pop / Commodities / Natural Gas

By: OilPrice_Com

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleThe "shale revolution" has been grabbing a great deal of headlines for some time now. A favourite topic of investors, sector commentators and analysts - many of whom claim we are about to enter a new energy era with cheap and abundant shale gas leading the charge. But on closer examination the incredible claims and figures behind many of the plays just don't add up. To help us to look past the hype and take a critical look at whether shale really is the golden goose many believe it to be or just another over-hyped bubble that is about to pop, we were fortunate to speak with energy expert Arthur Berman.

Global Energy's Massive U-Turn / Commodities / Natural Gas

By: Andrew_McKillop

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleGLOBAL U-TURN
Received wisdoms in global energy are falling like downed skittles as the world lurches into the biggest-ever U-turn in energy history. The US gas story shows the most dramatic and rapid changes. From the late 1990s until the past 2 years, billions of dollars were spent by developers of LNG regasification facilities in the United States, as well as most other OECD countries and by China and India. The received wisdom was that world gas resources were limited and depleting fast. The gas outlook for the US seemed especially dire: it was resigned to a future of declining domestic natural gas production, needing rapid growing LNG imports to fill a looming supply-demand gap. Outside the US, eyeing the world's largest single market for gas, developers of LNG projects were investing billions of dollars to meet the USA's projected import demand for LNG.

US Shale Gas Won't Even Last Ten Years! / Commodities / Natural Gas

By: The_Energy_Report

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleThe shale gas "miracle" is overhyped and bound to disappoint. That's what energy expert Bill Powers argues in his upcoming book. But Powers tells The Energy Report that this could be a very good thing for oil and gas companies and their shareholders, and he is placing his bets accordingly.

Natural Gas Cliff / Commodities / Natural Gas

By: Andrew_McKillop

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleCLIFF TOPS AND BOTTOMS
In 2004 the self-styled "environmental philosopher" Julien Darley could bring out a book with the title "High Noon For Natural Gas". With other conspiracy theorists, doomsters and media hopefuls ranging from Naom Chomsky to Michael Ruppert, Darley peddled the "US natural gas cliff". Especially the US, but also any other country increasing its use of natural gas was heading for a fall - off the cliff.

It's Time To Get Bullish on Natural Gas / Commodities / Natural Gas

By: Money_Morning

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleDr. Kent Moors writes: Forget the Farmer's Almanac. As we move into the winter season, two things are becoming clear. First, this one will be colder than last year, nationwide. Second, natural gas prices are moving up.

A colder season ahead is an almost statistical certainty. The likelihood of having a repeat of last year's mild winter is quite low. And my second assertion is now supported by several factors.

Cutting-Edge Technologies Will 'Green' Natural Gas Fracking / Commodities / Natural Gas

By: The_Energy_Report

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleFracking in the U.S. is here to stay, affirms Keith Schaefer, editor of the Oil & Gas Investments Bulletin. North American business is dependent on cheap energy, and even energy utilities are switching from coal to natural gas. Although environmental concerns remain, the industry has incentive to do the right thing, says Schaefer. In this exclusive interview with The Energy Report, Schaefer profiles service companies that are using cutting-edge technology to make fracking safer, greener and cheaper.

Investing in Natural Gas: These ETFs Hold Clues to a Price Rebound / Commodities / Natural Gas

By: Money_Morning

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleAnalysts and experts love to say the U.S. is "the Saudi Arabia of natural gas."

That statement implies the U.S. is to natural gas as Saudi Arabia is to oil: One of the world's top producers with decades (perhaps longer) worth of reserves of the commodity.

EU Bites the Hand That Powers It: Gazprom Will Bite Back / Politics / Natural Gas

By: OilPrice_Com

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleGazprom has Europe's natural gas market in a stranglehold and Europe is attempting to fight back, first with a raid last year on the Russian giant's offices and then with a probe launched earlier this week against its allegedly illicit efforts to control the EU's natural gas supplies.

The bottom line is that the same natural gas revolution in the US, which was enabled by hydraulic fracturing (fracking), is now threatening to loosen Gazprom's noose on the EU, and Gazprom simply won't have it.

Investing in Companies to Play Rising Natural Gas Price / Commodities / Natural Gas

By: Money_Morning

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticlePatrick Vail writes: The price of natural gas hit a 10-year low in April, sinking to $1.91 per MMBtu on April 19. Since then, natural gas prices are on the rise. In fact, prices have surged nearly 50%, to around $2.75 per MMBtu over the past four months.

What changed?

One, the sector came out of a very mild winter that saw very poor demand for natural gas.

Weak Second Quarter For Linn Energy Not A Cause For Concern / Commodities / Natural Gas

By: Elliot_H_Gue

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleLinn Energy LLC’s (NSDQ: LINE) second-quarter results fell short of expectations, prompting management to reduce its full-year forecast for distributable cash flow (DCF). The limited liability company (LLC) generated $0.70 per unit in DCF, which fell slightly short of the declared quarterly payout of $0.725 per unit. In contrast, Linn Energy covered its payout by 114 percent in the first quarter.

Despite these disappointing results, the firm grew its hydrocarbon output by 76 percent from a year ago, to 630 million cubic feet equivalent per day. Much of this upside stemmed from the integration of new acquisitions, though Linn Energy also posted solid production increases in core operating regions such as the Permian Basin and the Granite Wash.

Natural Gas Prices Tick Up on Hot Weather But Investors Shouldn’t Expect Much More Upside / Commodities / Natural Gas

By: Roger_Conrad

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleFour months ago, natural gas bottomed out at a 10-year low of less than $2 per million British thermal units. Since then, the price has rocketed around, actually bursting over $3 in early July before backing off later in the month.

According to the US Dept of Energy (DoE), America’s inventories of natural gas are still running 20 percent above their five-year average. That’s despite the fourth-hottest summer on record, which drove demand for gas to generate electricity up 21 percent over 2011 levels.

U.S. Heat Wave Won't Propell Natural Gas to $8 in 2012 / Commodities / Natural Gas

By: EconMatters

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleThe Energy Department reported that natural gas in storage grew by 26 billion cubic feet to 3.189 trillion cubic feet for the week ended July 20. The inventory level was 15.8% above the five-year average of 2.754 trillion cubic feet, and 18% above last year's level. Low natural gas prices in the U.S. this year has not only tanked the stocks of many gas-weighted producers, but also dragged down profits of U.S-based oilfield services companies as a result of reduced gas drilling activity (See Chart Below).  However, since hitting a 10-year low of below $2/mmbtu in April, Henry Hub benchmark prices has surged 69% hitting $3.214/mmbtu on Monday, July 30, the high of the year.

These Natural Gas Stocks Will Bounce Back As Demand Rises / Companies / Natural Gas

By: Money_Morning

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleLarry D. Spears writes: Now is the perfect time to invest in natural gas stocks.

To many investors, that may seem counterintuitive. After all, natural gas has been the red-headed stepchild of energy for years.

But prices for this plentiful alternative fuel are just beginning to turn higher after a four-year slide that saw values slashed by more than 80%.

Nat Gas Ready To Pop? / Commodities / Natural Gas

By: Chris_Vermeulen

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleNat gas (UNG) has recently caught my attention. While it was in a significant downtrend for the better part of a year it has recently been consolidating right under the $20 level. A look at the daily chart shows a long move down and then recently a sideways consolidation pattern. While this is typically a continuation pattern I am beginning to believe think that the next move may be up rather than an extension of the previous down trend.

Which Course Will North American Natural Gas Producers Choose? / Commodities / Natural Gas

By: Marin_Katusa

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleMarin Katusa, Casey Research writes: News of a "monster" natural gas find in British Columbia has one again highlighted that North Americans need to make a choice. Do we want to keep the huge volumes of natural gas that have been discovered in recent years across the continent landlocked and transportable only by pipeline, or should we develop the infrastructure that will enable us to transport this fuel to the gas-hungry markets of Asia?

Shale Natural Gas Reality Begins to Dawn, Ideal Setup for a Price Spike! / Commodities / Natural Gas

By: Nicole_Foss

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleIt has long been our position at The Automatic Earth that North America is collectively dreaming with regard to unconventional natural gas. While gas is undeniably there, the Energy Returned On Energy Invested (EROEI) is dramatically lower than for conventional supplies. The critical nature of EROEI has been widely ignored, but will ultimately determine what is and is not an energy source, and shale gas is going to fail the test.

By: OilPrice_Com
