Boris Johnson Vs Michael Gove Tory Leadership Grudge Match Contest
ElectionOracle / UK Politics Jun 13, 2019 - 04:56 PM GMTThe tory leadership contest is converging towards the ultimate grudge match that of Boris Johnson who should have won the 2016 leadership campaign against Michael Gove who should have backed Boris Johnson in 2016 but instead chose to stab him in the back by standing himself a few hours before Boris announced his candidature, instead of heading Boris's campaign for tory leader in 2016.
We'll 3 years on Boris has learned his lessons and thus had deployed a slick campaign to convince MP's and Tory party members to back him as their next leader and thus British Prime Minister as the first round of voting illustrates:
- Boris Johnson 114
- Jeremy Hunt 43
- Michael Gove 37
- Dominic Raab 27
- Sajid Javid 23
- Matt Hancock 20
- Rory Steward 19
- Andrea Leadsom 11
- Mark Harper 10
- Esther McVey 9
Boris Johnson surprised all by placing himself way ahead of the rest, virtually guaranteeing himself a place in the final 2 with the only question mark being who will be 2nd, will it be back stabber Michael Gove or Remainer Jeremy Hunt, or will outsider Dominick Raab make it into the final 2. Where despite the bookies odds clearly favouring Jeremy Hunt. However, I don't think the Tory party will vote for May 2.0, not after the chaos of the past 3 years! So we are likely heading for the mother of all grudge match's of between Boris Johnson vs Michael Gove.
The only thing that can derail Boris Johnson's ride into No 10 is Boris himself, as long has he does not let his mouth run then he remains on target to win the Tory leadership contest as the man best able to see of the existential threat that Farage's Brexit party poses to the Tories. Which has been my stated forecast since December 2018 as I iterated in my recent Tory leadership contest Betfair betting markets analysis video.
