The Day Queen Elizabeth II DIED at Balmoral Castle, Scotland - LIve BBC / Politics / UK Politics

By: N_Walayat

It's the 8th of September and since just after mid-day non stop BBC coverage was of that the doctors had been making the Queen comfortable, this was not just start stop coverage but continuous broadcast which implied that the Queen was on or death bed and probably had already died and the announcement was pending everyone getting to Balmoral with the last person to arrive being estranged Prince Harry. Here is the BBC coverage live in the leadup to the announcement of the death of the Queen of the United Kingdom at Balmoral Castle, Scotland.

Has Rishi Sunak Succeeded in Buying His Way Into No 10 - Fake Tory Leadership Contest / Politics / UK Politics

By: N_Walayat

It looks increasingly likely that Rishi Sunak's Billionaire father in law has managed to buy his son in law the Keys to No 10. Whilst we won't know the true cost of all of the behind the scenes shenanigans, it probably runs in the tens of millions. For India like most developing nations is politically corrupt where the Rich dictate who gets info office and so will give birth to the Sunak Premiership as his battle with Liz Truss is pure smoke and mirrors exercise to convince the electorate that there actually is a leaderships contest when it has all already been bought and paid for by daddy in law.

UK Government Orders NHS Workers Light Brigade Charge into the Valley of Coronavirus Death / Politics / UK Politics

By: N_Walayat

The magnitude of incompetence and negligence of the UK government is unprecedented, a death toll that should be in the hundreds now runs into the tens of thousands, not even 100 Bin Laden's could have inflicted as much damage as Boris Johnson's government has.

Nothing illustrates this then NHS workers being sent like the Light Brigade to Charge into the Coronavirus valley of death without any protection!

Boris Johnson a Crippled Prime Minister / Politics / UK Politics

By: Nadeem_Walayat

Following the ejection from office of the worst Prime Minister in British History, finally a person who actually voted LEAVE took hold of the leadership of the Tory party and the keys to No10 as correctly forecast in my series of articles dating back to November 2018 which offered great betting market odds of as much as 6-1 to capitalise upon.

Johnson Vs Gove Tory Leadership Contest Grudge Match Betfair Betting / Politics / UK Politics

By: Nadeem_Walayat

The latest odds for who who is likely to be the next tory leader have continued to narrow in Boris Johnson's favour with the latest price of just 1.23 which is set against 1.84 a week ago, 2.98 a week before that, 4+ a month before and 5+ a few months ago. So the train for betting on Boris Johnson has left the station as the risk vs reward is just not there. I don't take bets where the return on a £100 risk is just £23, even if I am pretty sure the bet will come good because risk vs reward is one of the primary rules for successful trading as iterated in my January 2019 article on the real secrets for successful trading. Boris Johnson Vs Michael Gove Tory Leadership Grudge Match - Video / Politics / UK Politics

By: Nadeem_Walayat

The tory leadership contest is converging towards the ultimate grudge match of Boris Johnson who should have won the 2016 leadership campaign vs Michael Gove who should have backed Boris Johnson in 2016 but instead chose to stab him in the back by standing himself for leader just a few hours before Boris was set to announce his candidature for next tory leader.

We'll now 3 years on Boris has learned his lessons and thus had deployed a slick campaign to convince MP's and Tory party members to finally back him for their next leader and thus the next British Prime Minister as the results of MP's voting in the first round illustrates:

Tory Leadership Contest Betting Markets Forecast - Betfair / Politics / UK Politics

By: Nadeem_Walayat

The worst Prime Minister in British History who has literally clung onto power by her finger tips for the past 6 months is set to resign as Tory party leader tomorrow, Friday 7th of June in the wake of the disaster that were the EU elections, which will mark the start for a 6 week long tory leadership contest with the objective of whittling down a wide field of 11 candidates to just 2 from whom the 100,000 or so tory party members will vote to choose to become the next Tory Leader and thus British Prime Minister set to take office late July as Britain counts down to the 31st October 2019 deadline. A deadline that most candidates have already declared they will seek to extend as a remainer parliament continues to do its utmost to subvert Brexit by taking a NO DEAL Brexit off the table and thus wasted the last 3 years instead of just declaring Independence as I concluded several years ago is what Britain should do to win the Brexit War.

Brexit Party Forces Theresa May to Resign, Boris Johnson Next Tory Prime Minister? / Politics / UK Politics

By: N_Walayat

When the European election results are announced Sunday, Nigel Farage's Brexit party looks set to win as many as 30 of the 73 seats whilst the Tory party under Theresa May are set to suffer an electoral bloodbath by winning as few as 6 seats, which would be harbinger for a disastrous outcome at the next General Election. Thus the Tory party had little choice in finally forcing an inept and crippled Prime Minister Theresa May to resign Friday, ending what amounts to a miserable 3 years that not only failed to achieve Brexit but that the past 3 years had failed to achieve anything of substance as contrary to some of the mainstream press commentary Theresa May was NO Margaret Thatcher, not coming anywhere close, who instead is probably the worst British Prime Minister in living memory.

Tory Leadership Contest - Will Michael Gove Stab Boris Johnson in the Back Again? / Politics / UK Politics

By: Nadeem_Walayat

The days of Britian's worst Prime Minister in history, Theresa Mays are numbered, so there is going to be another Tory leadership contest near 3 years on from the last when David Cameron quit after losing the EU Referendum, and Boris Johnson has been quick off the mark to throw his hat into the ring. Though I hope he has learned his lesson NOT to trust fellow tories such as the likes of Michael Gove who like a character out of Game of Thrones (Little Finger) stabbed Boris in the back on the day he was supposed to announce his candidature with Gove at the helm of his campaign, instead Gove announced a few hours earlier that he, himself would be standing for Tory leader!

Will Katie Hopkins Stand for BrExit Party in Elections After Helping Destroy UKIP? / Politics / UK Politics

By: N_Walayat

Katie Hopkins darling of the far right latest tweets are alluding to her preparing to make the leap from UKIP to the Brexit Party. After all UKIP effectively died in the local elections, so a case of mission accomplished for the Trojan Horse that are Katie Hopkins and Tommy Robinson, who successfully turned what should have been a UKIP local elections victory in the wake of Westminster Brexit chaos into an even worse performance than that of the Tories, by losing more than 80% of their councilors to end the night down 145 councilors with just 31 left. A TOTAL DISASTER!

Which should not come as much surprise to those who follow my analysis as I forewarned what to expect in electoral terms of the impact of Trojan Horse right win fanatics for the fundamental fact is that elections are won at the margins and not by preaching extreme messages to die hard supporters as they would have voted for UKIP regardless.

29 Mar 2019 - UK INDEPENDENCE DAY CANCELLED! As Westminster SUBVERTS BREXIT!

Brexit Master Nigel Farage understands this which is why he will storm the European elections by winning at least 25 seats! Literally going from nothing to 25+ seats all within a couple of months of the launch of his Brexit Party! A true electoral genius, who unlike the idiot in charge of UKIP understands that the likes of Katie Hopkins and Tommy Robinson are toxic to political parties.

"This is for Tommy Robinson" Shouts Knife Wielding White Supremacist Terrorist in London / Politics / UK Politics

By: John_York

UKIP's embrace of Tommy Robinson has fuelled one of Britain's foremost hate preacher to reach a broad audience many of whom have been radicalised into committing acts of violence, thank fully nothing on the scale of last weeks New Zealand terror attack. However, copy cat attacks are taking place right across the UK that Britains' tough gun laws have prevented resulting in carnage on anywhere near the same scale as that witnessed in New Zealand.

One such attack that is being widely reported on by the mainstream media was in London on Saturday near Heathrow airport where a white male after an near hour of hurling racist and white supremacist abuse on the street at passers by including "death to all muslims","I want to kill muslims", and "this is for Tommy Robinson" as reported on by witnesses, eventually went and stabbed an asian teenager in a nearby Tesco car park.

Theresa May No Confidence Vote, Next Tory Leader Betting Market Analysis and Forecasts / Politics / UK Politics

By: Nadeem_Walayat

Theresa May, Britain's disastrous Prime Minister is likely counting down to her final hours in office after this morning failing to resign in response the triggering of a Vote of No Confidence in her leadership of the Conservative Party that follows her disastrous decision Monday to pull the Tuesday vote on her "EU Withdrawal Agreement" and then her catastrophic tour yesterday of Europe's capitals, literally begging EU Leaders for some scraps off their table. Most of whom looked on in amusement at the leader of a once mighty nation now groveling at their feet. Which was the straw that broke the camels back for many Tory MP's who wrote letters in their dozens to the Tory Party's 1920 back bench committee to triggered a vote of no confidence to take place between 6pm and 8pm today.

Betting Markets Confirm Theresa May Safe From Tory Leadership Challenge this Week / Politics / UK Politics

By: Nadeem_Walayat

Last week Theresa May's disastrous BrExit deal with the European Union was released, one of having watered down virtually every British red line to nothing, that set the ball rolling on a Tory party leadership challenge with dozens of public announcements of letters being sent to the Tory 1922 backbenchers committee with 48 needed to trigger a challenge. My analysis at the time concluded with several possible BrExiteer contenders ready to take back control from the European Union with a Clean Brexit rather than the NO Brexit deal as my following video illustrates:

Britain is counting down to a change of Prime Minister following the release of Theresa May's disastrous 'brexit deal' where nearly every British red line has been watered down towards nothing in what amounts to a 585 page suicide note that triggered Tory MP's to start sending letters to the party's 1922 committee where the requirement is for a minimum of 48 letters to trigger a leadership contest that will likely be announced sometime next week as I have covered at length in the following article and video.

By: Raul_I_Meijer

This is something I’ve commented on many times. Like two months ago, when I wrote:

“As for Donald Trump, as much as we would like to engage in constructive criticism of the man and his government, we find we no longer can. The anti-Trump echo-chamber has turned so deafening that any intelligent debate about his policies is being drowned out amid the never ending flow of fake news and half truths and innuendo and empty smears that US media continue to spout. With a brief lull when the bombs fell on Syria.

The Trump UK Visit and Britain's Superiority Complex / Politics / UK Politics

By: Raul_I_Meijer

Trump Can Come. But Let Him Know Britain Won’t Stand For His Bigotry, is the headline of an article for the Guardian by Owen Jones. It’s just one of many articles, and one of many ways, I could use to point out what’s wrong in our world. In a TV appearance on ITV he apparently added:

“At the end of the day, if he comes – no one is saying he should be barred from the country by legal means – we’re saying we will take to the streets and say we reject racism, bigotry and will stand for the values most people in this country believe in.” Jones went on to insist “most” of the United Kingdom are against President Trump so it was in the country’s best interest to stand up for their beliefs.

Britain Becomes Trump Territory / Politics / UK Politics

By: Raul_I_Meijer

British media report today that Donald Trump may visit the country in late summer. (Renewed) calls for mass protests are everywhere, of course. The Metro news outlet features a picture of a pamphlet that reads No To Racism. No To Trump, that dates from an earlier occasion (Trump was supposed to come several times, but never did).

Now, good luck with those protests, it’s still a free country, in name at least. But boy oh boy, would you guys miss the point. Because as we now all know – or could-, your country is being governed by a group of people who are so racist they make even Trump’s fake tan pale in comparison. If Theresa May is still in office by the time Trump visits, you’re all a bunch of racists.

Bastiat Knew the Proper Limits of Government Force / Politics / UK Politics

By: Frank_Hollenbeck

High school students in the United States are usually required to take a course in government. They learn about the structure of government but rarely discover the appropriate role of government or the justifiable limits for the use of force in our society. If they did, one of their required readings would be Frédéric Bastiat’s treatise The Law, a seminal mid-Nineteenth-century work that describes eternal truths about life and how we pursue justice. These truths are just as valid today as they were then.

British Election Sends Shockwaves Felt Here and Abroad / Politics / UK Politics

By: John_Browne

Last week's General Election in the United Kingdom was a disaster for the new conservative government of Prime Minster Theresa May. Having called the unnecessary "snap" elections in order to strengthen her political hand, the result actually reduced the number of seats held by the conservatives and delivered large gains to the opposition Labour party, which had seemed in disarray just a few months ago. Although she has announced no plans to step down, her position has been severely weakened, possibly fatally. More pointedly, the UK's hand in negotiating favorable Brexit terms has eroded substantially. Besides creating significant ramifications for the European and global economy, the election also provides important lessons for the potential state of American politics.

UK Thin Blue Police Line - Those Were the May Days / Politics / UK Politics

By: Raul_I_Meijer

Is it sheer hubris, or is it just incompetence? It’s a question often asked when it comes to politics. And regularly, the answer is both. Still, what the ruling British political class has put on display recently seems to exist in a category all its own. Less than a year go, then-PM David Cameron lost the Brexit referendum that he called himself and was dead sure he would win by a landslide.

His successor Theresa May, Cameron’s Home Secretary and a staunch Remain advocate, lost the Brexit vote as much as her PM did, but stayed on, was promoted, and acted for 11 months like Downing Street 10 was hers by Divine Decree. Then she did the exact same thing Cameron did: she looked at polling numbers and decided to go for the jugular: more power through a snap vote.

SNP Declare Scotland to Commit Economic Suicide Early 2019, 2nd Independence Referendum / Politics / UK Politics

By: Nadeem_Walayat

The cult like SNP that sees Independence as the answer to EVERY question and so IS are once more demanding another once in a generation Independence referendum, barely 2 years since the last one. This despite current opinion polls stating that 55% of Scots want to remain within the United Kingdom. Though facts on the ground barely register with Scotland's IS fundamentalists who could be seen as being just as dangerously determined to destroy the United Kingdom as are their Levant namesakes. Permanently deaf, dumb and blind to the real world consequences of that which they zealously seek, an outcome that would amount to Scotland committing economic, social and territorial suicide, for that is what happens when nations tear themselves apart and this whilst Britain is attempting to pull itself away from the European Union is clearly meant to do maximum damage to England and Scotland, in their never ending quest for suicide as is the ultimate goal of all cults.

Is Theresa May making a huge blunder by running to see President Alt Trump? After all it will reek of desperation wanting to be the first leader to the meet and great America's emerging tyrant, especially as no other leader of significance is rushing to the White House. The British press has already worked itself up into a frenzy of expectations, one of a special trade deal for the special needs relationship, as Britain fulfills its destiny of leaving the European Union before it implodes.

UK Might Be on the Verge of Another Political Crisis / Politics / UK Politics

By: John_Mauldin

BY GEORGE FRIEDMAN : It’s the season for amazing electoral events.

On November 3, the High Court of England and Wales ruled the Brexit vote does not let the prime minister officially notify the EU of the UK's intent to withdraw. Rather, Parliament must authorize the prime minister’s actions.

This raises the possibility that Parliament might refuse to authorize notification. More likely, Parliament could choose to oversee the terms the UK offers and agrees to.

Theresa May Instructs Police, NHS Gp's, Public Sector To Stop Racial Discrimination in Service Delivery / Politics / UK Politics

By: Nadeem_Walayat

The whole spectrum of the public sector from the Police, to the NHS, to education is not governed by the pursuit of excellence for all recipients so as to maximise competitive advantage and increase market share but instead operates under the fundamental principles of delivering that which is free at the point of delivery. In which respect whether someone gets good or bad service is dependant upon the public servants own prejudices, usually dictated by stereotyping, the mass media and what's said in the gossip columns or on social media.

Michael 'Little Finger' Gove Slays Boris 'Baratheon' Johnson in Game of Thrones for Next Tory PM / Politics / UK Politics

David Cameron's announcement to step down as Prime Minister by early September propelled Brexit Leader Boris Johnson to become the favourite to takeover as Britain's next Tory Leader and Prime Minister. However, the great game for the Tory 'iron throne' was on, as Michael Gove today both discredited Boris Johnson whom he was supposed to be the campaign manager for and then went against EVERYTHING he has stated during the EU Referendum Campaign, in fact against everything he has been saying for the past 4 years by declaring that he himself would now stand for the Tory Leadership, so it looks like Gove, just like 'Little Finger' has apparently been manoeuvring towards the Tory 'iron throne' all along!

The establishment that has ruled over the British people for centuries, offering illusions of freedom and democracy and mechanisms of consumerism and debt to keep the worker slaves sedated and occupied, today sought to silence a voice of criticism of one of the elites agenda items, that for the emergence of a Greater Israel that has been in progress for near 50 years. One that involves the systematic genocide of the Palestinian people and theft of their land, of which the 2014 Gaza war crimes demonstrated that there were no depths to which the Jewish fundamentalists would sink to exterminate the Palestinian people which included the death of over 500 children and destruction of near 1/3rd of Gaza infrastructure.

By: BATR

With the Easter Rising of 1916, the world was introduced to the eulogy of Pax Britannica. Much like the coercion used by the Roman Empire, the British Crown were masters at colonial repression and exploitation of royal holdings. The long strained history between the Emerald Isle and the City of London dates back many centuries. From the punitive exploits of Oliver Cromwell to the use of the Auxiliary Division of the Royal Irish Constabulary (ADRIC), the shrift shed blood on both sides. Independence comes at a high price when the imperium masters dig in to keep their rule in place.

Iceland's Tax Dodging PM Resigns, David Cameron Next? Insidious Banking Crime Syndicate / Politics / UK Politics

By: Nadeem_Walayat

The 'Panama papers' leak of 11.5 million documents on the tax affairs of the world's elites at just one of thousands of tax dodge facilitating firms which thus represents a mere fraction of the tax dodging that goes on in the world's tax havens, many of which are British dominions. So whilst the Panama papers are making the headlines today, however virtually EVERYONE already well understands that the rich and political elite DODGE TAXES, usually paying just a token amount that tends to be a lot closer to 0% than even 1% of earnings. Whilst the gullible workers, the sheeple pay 20% or 40% of their earnings to the state, which compares against less than 1% tax paid by those who earn hundreds times more, much of which is through ill gotten gains such as by criminals and dictators and their henchmen, the likes of Czar Putin who has probably funneled $10's of billion's of the Russian peoples wealth out of the country and into a myriad of tax haven front companies, and then we have the Al brigade, thousands of Sheiks who have siphoned off the Gulfs oil wealth over many decade, with the so called communists of China not far behind.

Instead embarrassingly, when faced with China's Emperor Dictator Xi Jinping, David Cameron has bent over backwards to have not just himself but the whole of the British establishment literally groveling at the feet of the head of the emerging totalitarian global military power, that in many respects is worse than Czar Putin's Russia.

Voting for the the next Labour leader closed at 12pm today. The election followed the disastrous reign of Ed Milliband who not only failed to beat the Conservatives at the May general election but took Labour back towards the 1980's level of number of MP' after haemorrhaging virtually every Labour MP in Scotland to the Scottish Independence fanatics.

Independant Scotland 1 Year on, UK Civil War If the SNP Fanatics Had Succeeded / Politics / UK Politics

By: Nadeem_Walayat

What to know what would have happened if the SNP fanatics had succeeded in convincing the Scottish electorate into voting for independence?

Well the following video gives an idea of the path that not just Scotland would have been set upon but the whole of the UK as Scottish independence would have unleashed forces that would literally have torn the nation apart, something that the SNP fanatics continue to remain blind to today, this despite the fact of the oil price collapse of 2015 which alone would have collapsed the Scottish economy.

Britain: A Functioning Democracy It’s Not / Politics / UK Politics

By: Raul_I_Meijer

We at the Automatic Earth always try to steer clear of elections as much as possible, because there are no functioning democracies left in the west -no more than there are functioning markets-, and no journalists reporting on them either. Interesting question, by the way: how can a journalist report on a democracy that isn’t there? And where in that setting does news turn to mere opinion, and where does opinion then become news ?

Kate Gives Birth to Coalition Government / Politics / UK Politics

By: Nadeem_Walayat

Kate goes into Labour but gives birth to Conservative led Coalition. Britain's broadcast media has been full of irrelevant mind numbing continuous drivel coverage of the birth of the latest Royal, literally all day focused on the doors of St Mary's Hospital waiting for Will and Kate to emerge with their new baby daughter as the BBC, Sky and the rest deemed that of being infinitely more importance to Britains slave population than the impending too close to call general election of which public school boy will be next to dance to the bankster's tune.

Torture, Terror And Elite Schizophrenia In The UK / Politics / UK Politics

By: Andrew_McKillop

Keep Calm and Carry On
First reaction and respnse from the "mainsream media" in the UK. if not from alternate media and bloggers to the US Senate report on CIA-initiated torture, was to talk it down and dump it. Editorials in true-blue papers like the 'Telegraph' and in every single media outlet owned by Rupert Murdoch, Sky Tv and of course the BBC told consumers of pap-news that torture was necessary if a wee bit distasteful, saved lives, and thwarted Islamic terror plots - but is never used by the UK!

British Government Publishes UK, Scotland DevoMax Smith Report Suicide Note / Politics / UK Politics

By: Nadeem_Walayat

The consequences of the panicking Westminister politicians making unlimited promises of DevoMax in the last days of the Scottish Independence Referendum campaign that sowed the seeds for the destruction of the United Kingdom have now started to become manifest in the Smith report that details the transfer of tax and spending powers to the Scottish Parliament which will amount to approx 50% of governance that would still be coupled with a NET subsidy to Scotland of approx £9 billion per year to be born by predominantly England's Wage slaves where now the Scottish parliament will also be allowed to print billions in debt without inflation or interest rates consequences as the debt will be underwritten by the United Kingdom that sows the seeds for stealth destruction of the United Kingdom as Scotland effectively sucks dry the financial blood of the United Kingdom. Furthermore the whole basis of the SNP argument of an Independant Scotland living off of North Sea Oil has already gone up in smoke following the collapse in crude oil prices!

Britain Can Leave The European Union / Politics / UK Politics

By: Andrew_McKillop

It Can Also Leave the UK
Britain's mainstream and alternative political parties, including UKIP and Scotland's SNP are two powerful players responding and reacting to a host of factors changing the country. In the wake of the Scottish indepedendence referendum the problem, threat – or simple reality of regional and nationalist political forces breaking up the previous two-party (and already three-party) system of power in a united national state are unstoppable. Wales is pushing for more and further devolution of powers from Westminster and England. The northern regions of England are doing the same. Despite being beaten in the September referendum, the SNP now speaks and acts for Scotland and if recent opinion polls are right, it has a 20-point lead in voting intentions against the Labour party with its "traditional" 41 safe seats in Scotland, able to turn the UK Labour party into the English Labour party at the coming May 2103 general elections.

David Cameron Uses EU Fine to Bolster Support / Politics / UK Politics

By: John_Browne

Last week, the unelected European Commission demanded that the United Kingdom pay an additional $2.8 billion to fund the European Union. The new charges resulted from the fact that the British economy had grown faster than had been expected in the past year. The demand sparked outrage from Great Britain's Prime Minister, David Cameron, and media, particularly as France and Germany would receive rebates, financed largely by the new funds being demanded from the UK. Looked at in a different light, it is simply a tax on growth that will not sit well with the British public, and could perhaps hasten the day that the UK will split from the Eurozone.

A week on from when the UK managed to avoid having an I.S. The YES Campaigns victory was achieved by means of Westminister politicians LYING to the Scottish electorate by making promises of bribes that amount to effectively INCREASING Scotland's annual net subsidy from England by 50% as the price to be paid by English workers despite having had no say in the matter.

The Problem With UKIP And Other I I P's / Politics / UK Politics

By: Andrew_McKillop

IIP's or The Instant Independence Parties
Before the howls arrive on my doorstep accusing me of personality assassination of Nigel Farage, I will clearly say Nigel Farage is a nice man who is probably kind to animals and small children. He is also opposed to Scottish independence because it would be “the wrong political and economic flavour” for him. It would be Statist and Taxist (which is a word I offer him). It would increase national debt. It would fritter away the oil and whisky and other things, and its national money would go down the tube. It would be a Nanny State truly at home in the EU. It would be bureaucratic and meddling. It would probably start losing football matches, but that one is not yet on Farage's “No” list.

Why Is Scotland's Referendum Already A Black Swan? Cataclysmic Uncertainty / Politics / UK Politics

By: DK_Matai

1. The pound sterling is falling. It has already fallen by 6% over the past two months. Sterling may yet fall further next week in the absence of official intervention. Investors pulled out around GBP 17 billion from the British economy last month as fears that Scotland could go independent began to hit the prospects of the whole United Kingdom. More money flowed out of British assets in August than at any time since the height of the financial crisis during the collapse of Lehman Brothers in September 2008. Over the course of this year, more than GBP 120 billion has been pulled out of British financial assets, compared to a net gain of around GBP 40 billion in 2013.

Scotland - A Wee Problem for the UK / Politics / UK Politics

By: John_Browne

Last weekend several polls emerged that shockingly forecast Scottish independence from Great Britain is within the realm of political possibilities. Although the September 18th vote had worried a number of people, the evenly split polling results burst upon the world like a thunderbolt, perhaps shattering the image of a steady, genial and conservative Britain. But the ramifications of Scottish independence go far beyond national pride and historical score settling. Watchers of the global economy should be aware of the potentially serious follow-on results.

By: Nadeem_Walayat

Leaders of both major political parties, Ed Milliband (Labour) and David Cameron (Conservatives) headed north on Wednesday to try and persuade 9% of Britain in terms of population and economy not to commit suicide by voting YES in what is termed as an independence referendum but in reality is towards marking the start of the dissolution of a 300 year old union of the Island of Britain that over the centuries has become ever more intertwined that on September 18th could begin the dangerous process of being ripped apart all for the tunnel vision obsession of Scottish power hungry nationalists such as Alex Salmond who literally are willing to sacrifice their own nation for personal vanity.

By: Nadeem_Walayat

The people of Britain are waking up to the potential reality of the end of the United Kingdom if as recent opinion polls increasingly suggest Scotland votes YES for independence / dissolution of the union on September 18th 2014.

This video answers key questions as to what would happen to both Scotland and the UK financially, economically and socially should Scotland vote YES, as the risks are far beyond that which many people have thus contemplated, far beyond just Scotland gaining independence but rather acting to blow itself and the United Kingdom apart.

Will The 300 Year Old UK Survive? / Politics / UK Politics

By: Andrew_McKillop

No Longer Certain “No” Will Win
Unsurprisingly to me, the Yes voters in Scotland are getting more affirmative and less secretive about their preference for an independent Scotland. Because its a classic “first past the post” voting system and process, a minority will decide what happens – but few complain about that time-worn electoral process in Britain, except for example the Lib Dems who want proportional voting because it would give them more seats in the Westminster parliament.

There is PANIC in the air as the NO Campaigns 20% opinion poll lead at the start of 2014 has now completely evaporated as the YES campaign edges into the lead with just 12 days to go, with the latest opinion poll that for the first time putting the YES vote on 51%, against 49% NO (YouGov for the Sunday Times) will likely prompt a mini panic on Monday morning as the forex and financial markets further discount the increasing risks of a YES Vote that will likely prompt UK politicians to further bend over backwards to accommodate Scotland costing UK tax payers many more billions per year.

The peoples of the United Kingdom are literally being sleep walked towards the edge of the cliff, most completely unaware of the potentially disastrous ramifications for not just Scotland but for what lies in store for the remainder of the United Kingdom following a Scottish Independence YES vote that would break start the process for ripping apart a 300 hundred year old entity of an United Island of Great Britain, which as I have repeatedly warned of during 2014 that a YES vote would literally sow the seeds for the balkanisation of Britain as this Island would literally tear it itself apart as the status quo of what had been taken for granted would no longer exist.

By: Andrew_McKillop

Devalue or Revalue The Money?
With absolutely no doubt the question of what money an independent Scotland would use, and its value, has become the major background theme in the independence debate. The English Union lobby argues Scotland will have to devalue, suffer huge inflation, and become a European Argentina, which is pure and simple nonsense. England is the Argentina-candidate of Europe but does not have a telegenic Madame Kirchner to say so! Its money is massively overvalued on any rational basis.

George Osborne has thrown an major infrstrucvutre funding election scrap at the north by suggesting that a new high speed link HS3 should be created between Manchester and Leeds that would more than halve the existing travel time between the two cities.

"The cities of the North are individually strong, but collectively not strong enough. The whole is less than the sum of its parts. So the powerhouse of London dominates more and more. And that's not healthy for our economy. It's not good for our country.

"We need a northern powerhouse too. Not one city, but a collection of northern cities - sufficiently close to each other that combined they can take on the world. Able to provide jobs and opportunities and security to the many, many people who live here, and for whom this is all about."

One way to talk around the problem of food no longer having any taste – called the Malbouffe crisis in France and dating to the late 1990s – is to dumb down and eat what everybody else eats. Would England Use Force To Stop Scottish Independence? / Politics / UK Politics

No to English Annexation
At its simplest, any English action to prevent Scotland seceding from the 1707 Union would be a land and resource grab. Muddy England has one of the highest population densities in the world, about 400 persons per square kilometer, compared with about 75 in Scotland. Overcrowded England needs Scotland for lebensraum, as Hitler called it. Apart from oil and gas, Scotland also has whisky, fishing, lumber and tourist assets and resources. Which overcrowded England has less of, or none at all.

Some things are simply so funny that they can't help showing us hidden truths. Last week I saw a headline in the Daily Telegraph that got me thinking. It encapsulates a lot of what poses as philosophy in our world today, as a valid way of thinking and a relevant approach to all the crises we live through simultaneously at the moment. One which, when you look longer and closer, appears at least at first glance to lack all philosophical value - since it doesn't actually weigh any pros and cons -, and turns out to be a rehash of a hodge-podge of the very failed old theories that have led us into our crises.

We are living in a fast changing world. That is never more so than for the status of many countries, and where the small Island of Britain is concerned, not so long ago Britain really was GREAT BRITAIN.

Unfortunately, Britain in geopolitical terms has been on a century long trend towards coming to reflect the actual size of Britain in terms of geography and population (having lost its colonies decades ago), in respect of which the older one is then the more in denial one is likely to be in terms of Britain's actual standing in the world.

Bedroom Tax - Coalition Government Attempts to Cure Britain of Benefits Disease Epidemic / Politics / UK Politics

By: Nadeem_Walayat

Large swathes of the Britain are infected with the Benefits disease which results in wasted lives as instead of millions of people developing themselves to the best of their productive ability instead focus on a full time career of determining what needs to be done so as to engineer how to be in receipt of the most amount of benefits payments from the state, including not engaging in legal work, giving the impression that they are single parent families and not forgetting the diseases primary manifestation which is to churn out an near endless supply of children that many have little intention of properly looking after as countless mainstream media reports continue to illustrate.

SMI Labour Benefit's Culture Catastrophe - Come to Britain and We Will Pay Your Mortgage! / Politics / UK Politics

By: Nadeem_Walayat

You want a FREE £200k+ House? Then come to Britain, and we will give this and much more, only thing you need to do in return is to vote Labour. Britain continues to suffer the consequences of rampant Labour government bribery of the electorate in terms of expanding the width and breadth of the benefits culture that has resulted in enticing approx 1/5th of those of working age that could work ( 8 million) to instead park themselves onto benefits for life where the name of the game is how to maximise benefit receipts rather than engage in productive activity.

UKIP - The Good, The Bad And The Dumb / Politics / UK Politics

By: Andrew_McKillop

After recently beating the leading party in UK's shaky coalition government, the Conservative party (called 'the Tories' in the 18th century) in a by-election triumph, and making even more solid gains in opinion poll scores, the UKIP party headed by Nigel Farage is succeeding its strategy to woo Britain's "rejectionist voters". These are voters who reject all existing Me Too parties, what the UKIP calls the Lib-Con-Lab alliance of the Liberal, Conservative and Labour parties, which have almost identikit mix-and-mingle, one size fits all policies for mitigating national debt, relaunching the economy, accelerating European integration, fighting climate change, raising immigration, building multiculturalism - and taxing average persons and smaller companies into the grave.

Why We Should Not Fear the Fiscal Cliff / Politics / UK Politics

By: Kevin_Geary

Everyone is worrying about the "Fiscal Cliff" but I say, "bring it on!" It will be great for America (and better than the alternative).
Here's why:
First of all, all the taxes that were cut under George W.Bush led us into a fiscal catastrophe, especially when he started two devastatingly costly and unnecessary wars, that both lasted longer than any other American wars (and Afghanistan, longer than World War I, World War II and the Civil War put together!) So, restoring all tax rates to the level they were when Clinton left office, will bring in huge amounts of revenue, which we desperately need.

By: Nadeem_Walayat

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleExpectations for disastrously low turnouts for England and Wales PCC elections have materialised as the general public whole heartedly rejects the policy for political interference in British policing. Turnouts are averaging at just 15%, with the winning candidates typically being elected with less than 7% of the electorate and some with less than 4%. Additionally many of the westminister dinosaurs such as John Prescott were rejected by the electorate, that also saw more than ten times the number of spoilt ballots as is usually the case at UK elections.

By: Nadeem_Walayat

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleThe people of South Yorkshire will be asked this Thursday to vote for their Police and Crime Commissioner by selecting a name from a list of unknown persons that have been put forward by each of 5 political parties, which means voting will be purely along party lines which given that the Tory / Lib-Dem coalition government at mid-term is at it's maximum level of unpopularity virtually ensures that the election for South Yorkshire will purely amount to a rubber stamping exercise by the 18% or so voters who will actually turn out to vote, regardless of the fact whether the candidate is actually any good for the job or not.

All of this is taking place in the run up to the handing over responsibility for holding England and Wales police forces to account to some 41 politicians that will follow a rubber stamping exercise along party lines that masquerades as an Election on November 15th, that will be lucky to secure a turnout of even 20% (which idiot picked picked the middle of November for an election?) which is set against 65% that turned out for the last general election.

This has prompted another panic amongst the government to pull in another 3,000 troops to meet and greet peoples from around the world, where whilst some of whom will feel at home being under military occupation, most however will be shocked at the level of military presence.

British Parliament: the Mother of all Deceptions / Politics / UK Politics

By: William_Bowles

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleThere -- it sickens one to have to wade through this grimy sea of opportunism. What a spectacle of shuffling, lies, vacillation and imbecility does this Game Political offer to us? I cannot conclude without an earnest appeal to those Socialists, of whatever section, who may be drawn towards the vortex of Parliamentarism, to think better of it while there is yet time. If we ally ourselves to any of the presen[t] parties they will only use us as a cat's-paw; and on the other hand, if by any chance a Socialist slips through into Parliament, he will do so at the expense of leaving his principles behind him; he will certainly not be returned as a Socialist, but as something else; what else is hard to say. As I have written before in these columns, Parliament is going just the way we would have it go. Our masters are feeling very uncomfortable under the awkward burden of GOVERNMENT, and do not know what to do, since their sole aim is to govern from above. Do not let us help them by taking part in their game. Whatever concessions may be necessary to the progress of the Revolution can be wrung out of them at least as easily by extra-Parliamentary pressure, which can be exercised without losing one particle of those principles which are the treasure and hope of Revolutionary Socialists. -- William Morris, the Commonweal, Volume 1, Number 10, November 1885, p. 93.[1]

Britain spent the intervening years developing strategies to cope with what poet Rudyard Kipling called its "recessional," or the transient nature of Britain's imperial power. It has spent the last 20 years defining its place not in the world in general but between continental Europe and the United States in particular.

Britain is an Incipient Fascist State / Politics / UK Politics

By: Global_Research

Derek Martin writes: Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleI was born in 1929. Despite the prevailing poverty of the 1930’s, followed by the horrors of the Second World War, there was a general spirit of optimism generated by the radical thinking of H. G. Wells, Bernard Shaw, and a host of left wing thinkers associated with the Labour Party. Despite the war this persisted, and led to the Labour Government of 1945, and I reached adulthood feeling that we had reached at least the beginning of a genuinely brave new world. Events have proved me very wrong. The only Brave New World around was Huxley’s, and I read the articles about the impending decline of the U.S.A. into fascism, (‘America Has Gone Away’ by Paul Craig Roberts (ref.1), and the somewhat more recent, ‘Does Fascism Lurk Around the Corner in the U.S.A.? by Danny Schechter (ref. 2), and realised that for some time I had been considering Britain in the same terms. I thought then that it might be worth sharing my thoughts with others; hence this article.

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleDavid Miliband is expected to be elected as the new Labour Party leader today with the results to be announced shortly after 4.30pm at Labours Party Conference in Manchester. The leadership race began some three months ago with David Miliband as the clear favourite but increasingly his younger brother Ed has been able to chip away at David's lead bit by bit as the Labour party members have always been left of New Labour which therefore naturally favours Ed Miliband over David Miliband, whereas the parliamentary party favours David Miliband as a more experienced and effective parliamentary leader to put up against the twin headed coalition government of David Cameron and Nick Clegg.

Both have produced self-serving memoirs for which they have been paid fortunes. Blair’s will appear next month and earn him £4.6 million. Now consider Britain’s Proceeds of Crime Act. Blair conspired in and executed an unprovoked war of aggression against a defenseless country, which the Nuremberg judges in 1946 described as the "paramount war crime." This has caused, according to scholarly studies, the deaths of more than a million people, a figure that exceeds the Fordham University estimate of deaths in the Rwandan genocide.

Nato fighter planes had blown the poorest of the poor to bits. They were Afghan villagers who had rushed to siphon off fuel from two stalled tankers. Many were children with water buckets and cooking pots. “At least” 90 were killed, although Nato prefers not to count its civilian enemy. “It was a scene from hell,” said Mohammed Daud, a witness. “Hands, legs and body parts were scattered everywhere.” No parade for them along a Wiltshire high street.

Shocking news about Gordon Brown - Sold Half of Britians Gold Reserves at Bear Market Low / Politics / UK Politics

"...Two billion here...two billion there. Pretty soon you're just funding a war in the desert or paying one-in-four of the working population to stay at home on sick leave..."

SHOCKING NEWS from the Sunday Times in London . Gordon Brown is an idiot.

More shocking still, his boss Tony Blair – the prime minister who led Britain to war in Iraq on spurious evidence of WMDs – doesn't always speak the truth. Their political party, New Labour, likes to bury bad news. And expert knowledge counts for nothing at Westminster .

Hence the biggest financial story in the United Kingdom right now – bigger by far according to the column inches than its record-breaking credit bubble – is that Gordon Brown "ignored advice" before selling half the nation's gold at rock-bottom prices in 1999.
