Mayhem at Sheffield Street Tree Protests, Police, Bouncers and Multiple Assaults
Local / Sheffield Jan 27, 2018 - 05:28 AM GMTThere was literally mayhem on the streets of Sheffield this week as Meersbrook Park Road (MPR) descended into chaos as protestors campaigning to prevent Amey from felling the remaining trees still standing on MPR were met by force from more than a dozen Amey HiViz security bouncers / doormen resulting in multiple assaults taking place all whilst the half dozen or so police offciers watched on in silence, failing to intervene or respond to pleas from the residents and wider public on the road that day.
Whilst both sides claimed assaults with the mainstream local media focusing on Amey's claims as that which best favours advertising revenues. However, video evidence clearly illustrates the reality of what took place on MPR this week as set against propaganda and spin.
This video thanks to local resident Russell Johnson shows multiple assaults on the tree protestors as they are punched and dragged out of partially cordoned off zones around the streets trees.
Darren Butt, Account Director for Amey "Streets Ahead" talking to Toby Foster stated that tree fellings had been suspended for the remainder of the week though also stated that they would soon resume, probably as early as the coming week. Whilst at the same time praising the conduct of his men, apparently even after watching footage of what took place on Meersbrook Park Road."My stewards and their conduct has been exemplary. Throughout last week and this week" - Darren Butt.
To which Toby Foster responded by refering to video footage he had seen "Was that an uppercut I saw thrown."
