Sheffield Broomhall Hanover Flats Tower Block Cladding Could Take Months to Remove!

Local / Sheffield Jun 28, 2017 - 03:57 PM GMT

Local

The Broomhall Hanover flats twin towers were Sheffield's first tower blocks to fail urgent fire safety tests in the wake of the Grenfell Tower Fire disaster that prompted the city council to in a panic announce the removal of all cladding from Hanover Tower work on which began early morning yesterday, with two sides of the tower blocks cordoned off. Meanwhile the council reassured residents that they were 'safe', despite the panic move on behalf of the council.

Though perhaps the city council needs to hire more efficient contractors because at the current pace of removal it is going to take several months and not the 2 weeks or so that the likes of the mainstream press such as Look North have been reporting.

So apparently those in charge of Sheffield City Council housing are not knowledgeable enough to recognise the difference between cheap combustible cladding and more appropriate fire retardant cladding. Even worse it appears the council paid for slightly thicker 3mm cladding whilst cheaper 2mm cladding was fitted. After all who would notice the difference ? Sheffield City Council didn't! Which once more demonstrates that Sheffield City Council is not fit for purpose!

The Hanover twin towers represent the tip of Sheffield's cladding disaster ice-berg as the number could easily expand to more than 10 Sheffield city towers having their cladding removed exposing the insulation to the elements and as everyone well knows once insulation gets wet it is pretty much becomes useless

For more Sheffield's tower blocks that could soon be due for emergency removal of cladding (though at a snails pace), then see my following recent video:

Are Sheffield's High Rise Tower Blocks Safe?

Nationally so far of the 120 tower blocks have been tested all of which have failed fire safety tests with at least another 500 tower blocks to be tested, which means as many as 10 Sheffield tower blocks could fail the fire safety test.
