Shaun Wright Wins SYPCC Election Gangnam Style

Today is PCC election day!

Voters right across England and Wales will soon be setting off to vote for their respective Police and Crime Commissioner candidates, well about 1/6th of the electorate or 17% are actually expected to vote for what will turn out to be another disastrous Coalition Government decision which is effectively for the party of law and order to hand over control of most of England an Wales 41 Police forces to the Labour party, despite the fact that the Labour party opposed the creation of these posts until they had a light bulb moment and realised that they would win most of them.

The Labour candidate for the peoples republic of South Yorkshire is Rotherham Labour Councillor, Shaun Wright, who hit the jackpot this summer in the Labour party sweep stakes and will soon be enjoying all of the perks that go along with being South Yorkshires PCC such as an approx £100k salary, lavish expense account and a chauffeur driven car with perhaps on occasion an accompanying police escort. Not to mention the bureaucracy that will go along with PPC's such as a chief executive, finance manager, and a long list of support staff at an annual cost of more than £1 million per year. And this is after spending £150million on the election, perhaps this is the Coalition governments baldrick-esk cunning plan to stimulate the economy via a string of costly, worthless elections that the general public never asked for?

The PCC's will turn out to be a disaster for the police forces because there will be a constant battle between PCC's and Chief Constables as they will have completely different priorities, for instance the PPC's primary priority will be to get re-elected and therefore election promises will count, whilst the Chief Constables will try to get their jobs done with the least interference as possible from the PCC's, as was the case with the Police Authorities, which were always just weak entities that tended to be subservient to the whims of Chief Constables.

As my recent article concluded, that there is little doubt what today's result will be as the Labour elite expects the voters of the peoples republic of south Yorkshire to turn out and mark their X's zombie style against the Labour candidate no matter whom it may have been as the below graph illustrates.

I can imagine that following his virtually guaranteed election victory, we may soon see Shaun let some steam off by perhaps uploading his own SYPCC parody of the viral Gangnam style video onto youtube.

On a serious note, I can imagine many politicians, ranging from ambitious city councilors to west minister dinosaurs will be salivating at the prospects for more such elected commissioner posts for instance for county schools, hospitals, fire brigades, maybe even refuse collection. Forget 1984, instead welcome to Britain's crackpot democracy overkill 2012!
