Sheffield Darnall Ward May 2010 Local Election Candidates
ElectionOracle / Sheffield Apr 29, 2010 - 12:33 AM GMTLocal elections to elect Sheffield city councillors take place on May 6th, on the same day as the General Election when voters will be given two ballot papers to mark an X on (one for local and one for the General election).
Each ward is represented by 3 councillors that are each up for election every four years, therefore over a 4 year cycle there is an election for one councillor every year for three years and no election in the fourth year.
Darnall Ward
Darnall Ward is represented by 3 councillors all of whom are affiliated with the Labour party.
- Cllr Mazher Iqbal
- Cllr Mary Lea
- Cllr Harry Harpham
This year will see Cllr Mazher Iqbal seeking re-election.
Main Party Candidates for May 2010 Darnall Local Election
Mazher Iqbal - Labour - 2006 Election 2338 Votes (2008- 2039 votes for Mary Lea)
Resides in Darnall
Misbah Chowdhury - Lib Dems- 2008 Election 1484 Votes
Resides in Darnall
Margaret Elizabeth Pigott - Conservatives- 2008 Election 439 Votes
Resides in Wharncliffe Side - How can someone that lives 8 miles away have any clue as to the issues faced by the people that actually live in Darnall?
Charlotte Elizabeth Arnott - UK IP - 2008 Election 414 Votes
Resides in Handsworth
Julie Anne White - Green - 2008 Election 228 votes.
Resides in Sharrow - Again living 4 miles away is too far to have a any real clue as to the issues faced by the people of Darnall.
Clearly the local election battle is between Labour and the Liberal Democrats which would require a swing from Labour to Liberals of 9% to result in a change.
Darnall Issues
One of the major issues for those that live in Darnall is the consistent lack of quality of GP healthcare services as evidenced by the UK GP Patient survery that firmly ranks Darnall GP's at the bottom of Sheffield's 91 GP Surgeries as illustrated by the below table that measures overall patient satisfaction:
Sheffield's Bottom 5 GP Surgeries
HAROLD STREET MEDICAL CENTRE | 80% |
STONECROFT MEDICAL CENTRE | 79% |
HIGHGATE SURGERY | 75% |
DARNALL HEALTH CENTRE (MEHROTRA) | 70% |
DARNALL COMMUNITY HEALTH | 70% |
Unlike the best ranking surgeries clustering closely together, the bottom ranking surgeries see a sharp drop off in the patient experience at the quality of health care from 85% to an abysmally poor ranking of just 70% of patient satisfaction for Darnall, something that the patients of Darnall have had to suffer with for many, many years, with no apparent effort by the Sheffield Primary Care Trust to get to the root cause of why Darnall's GP Surgeries (merged) consistently fail to perform to the satisfaction of a large number of its patients when other GP surgeries achieve 98% satisfaction ratings.
For the fullt table listing all 91 surgeries see - Sheffield NHS UK GP Patient Survey Surgery Rankings 2009-10
The local and parliamentary election candidates have been asked to provide their views on the abysmal performance of Darnall GP Surgeries that will illuminate the picture on what the candidates have done or intend to do should they be elected which will be published during the weekend.
