Banks Stress Tests When the Worst Loans Are the Best Deals / Companies / Banking Stocks

By: Money_Morning

Shah Gilani writes: Last Wednesday, only 2 out of 31 big banks failed the Federal Reserve‘s “qualitative” round of stress tests.

One was Deutsche Bank USA, and the other was Santander Holdings USA Inc.

And then on Thursday, Santander’s biggest U.S. unit, Santander Consumer USA, was able to sell a bundle of subprime auto loans, worth $712 million, in a matter of hours.

Investors Earn 6% When Others Are Losing Money / Companies / Investing 2015

By: Money_Morning

Peter Krauth writes: We're living in crazy economic times.

The race to debase and stimulate has taken us into uncharted financial waters.

Zero interest rate policies (ZIRP) are being replaced with negative interest rate policies (NIRP).

It's an upside-down banking environment that presents some serious challenges.

The Most Crowded Trades on Wall Street - Apple / Companies / Apple

By: EconMatters

Herd Mentality

Here are 5 of the most crowded trades in financial markets, where a lot of group think has led to large fund flows on one side of the trade. This has been a very common phenomenon the last couple of years in financial markets, partly due to participating in the same investment conferences, limited trading opportunities, lack of imagination, investors seeking security with the crowd, Fed incentives, shared information and networking otherwise called industry collusion, trend trading, and going with ideas that have worked in recent history.

By: Money_Morning

Shah Gilani writes: Flashback to the 2008 credit crisis.

There’s Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C) – bent-over by arrogance, off-balance sheet liabilities and derivative weapons of mass destruction in an insolvent fetal position.

The Best Way to Trade off Sony Stock's Success / Companies / Corporate Earnings

By: Money_Morning

Tom Gentile writes: Sony Corp. (NYSE ADR: SNE) had another blockbuster on its hands with its latest movie release, "50 Shades of Grey," based on the best-selling book of the same name. While most parents justifiably didn't take their kids to this movie, adults seeking the cover of a wide release to justify their desire to watch soft-core porn have flocked to the theaters over the last 30 days.

Biotech Stocks Blowoff Beats Even Dot-Com Madness / Companies / BioTech

By: Anthony_Alfidi

Annual health tech fests like the JPMorgan Health Care Conference, Biotech Showcase, and One Med Forum came and went this year in San Francisco.  The star performers in this sector no doubt have a lot to brag about.  They will also have a lot of explaining to do when the biotech and health care sectors eventually crash.

Bank Stress Test Kabuki Theater Begins Again / Companies / Banking Stocks

By: Money_Morning

Shah Gilani writes: It’s that time of year again. Not for spring cleaning – but for bank stress tests.

Too bad stress tests are nothing more than a sweeping-dirt-under-the-rug exercise, despite the rug-beater supposedly hanging them on the line.

The whole show, which first started in April 2009, is just a public performance.

How to Play the Big Broker Stocks When Interest Rates Rise / Companies / Sector Analysis

By: Money_Morning

Tom Gentile writes: You don't have to be a bond trader or follow every self-appointed TV expert to keep a studied eye on interest rates. In fact it can be done much more easily by watching a bellwether ETF.

And it's a good time to pay attention. Just recently, the Federal Reserve changed the tone of its stance on rates, indicating that we could see little change into this summer or fall before it dials the rate needle upward.

Tesla Bonfire of the Money Printers’ Vanities / Companies / Tech Stocks

By: Casey_Research

By David Stockman, Former Director of the Office of Management and Budget

David Stockman needs no introduction, but I’ll give him one anyway. He’s a former US Congressman who, upon assuming responsibility as Ronald Reagan’s budget director in 1981, became the youngest presidential cabinet member of the 20th century.

Following a 20-year career on Wall Street, David is now an outspoken critic of government stupidity. He argues on behalf of outdated notions like a balanced budget, free markets, and for the government to just plain leave us alone.

How Investors Can Identify the Best Small-Cap Stocks / Companies / Investing 2015

By: Money_Morning

Sid Riggs writes: Since the October 2014 lows, the Russell 2000 (the broadest measure of the small-cap sector) has gained 18.09%.

To put it mildly, small-caps have absolutely been crushing the broader market over the last four-and-a-half months. Too bad the mainstream financial media would rather spook investors with the "what-ifs" of what is going wrong domestically and abroad.

The Only Public Hedge Fund You Should Own / Companies / Hedge Funds

By: Money_Morning

Hedge fund managers who offer shares to the general public have lost investors billions. Och-Ziff Capital Management Group LLC (NYSE: OZM) has lost over half of its value since its debut during the financial crisis. Fortress Investment Group LLC (NYSE: FIG) has lost three quarters over the same time period. But there is one hedge fund that just might live up to the hype. I'm going to tell you about it here.

Mind you, if you have $10,000 or more to invest, you can skip the whole hedge fund hoopla and invest in so called "liquidity products." These are hybrids between hedge funds and mutual funds – essentially, hedge funds that are registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Blackrock, Deutsche Asset Management, PIMCO and a host of others have been pumping these out in recent years.

5 Reasons Why You Should Sell Amazon Stock / Companies / Internet

By: Submissions

Amigo Bulls write: Amazon reported Q4 2014 earnings results in January 2015. The company which has always pursued a topline focused strategy failed to keep up with expectations on the revenue front missing estimates by 2%. Yet investors showed confidence with the Amazon stock gaining close to 12.2% on account of beating earnings estimates. So what does this mean? U.S. Auto Makers Subprimed for a Fall / Companies / US Auto's

By: EWI

With gas prices tumbling and car sales surging in December, analysts expect total vehicle sales to rise to 17 million units in 2015, close to the 17.3 million record in 2000. But a closer look reveals that this presumed "pocket of strength" is actually another deflationary sinkhole.

A big clue to this potential is the source of much of the industry's recent sales surge: debt.

Zuckerberg, Facebook Would Love to work With Google on Connectivity Projects / Companies / Internet

By: Bloomberg

Tonight's "Studio 1.0" hosted by Bloomberg Television's Emily Chang (;@EmilyChangTV) features Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. In a wide-ranging interview, Zuckerberg discussed Internet.org, his relationship with Google, and Facebook's development of drones and lasers.

Zuckerberg says that Facebook will probably "lose a bunch of money" on Internet.org and he doesn't have a "better idea" of when it will become profitable. On whether he'll reach his goal of connecting 1 billion more people by 2020, he said, "We'll see. I think so."
