Mexico: A Country in Crisis / Politics / Mexico
Mexico is grieving after more than 38 toddlers perished in a fire at a pre school day care centre in Hermosillo on Friday (05/06/09). But perhaps even worse for some fanatical football fans the national team lost 2 to 1 in a World Cup qualifying match to El -Salvador over the weekend. It seems only appropriate that as I write this piece, the national university’s philharmonic is performing that mournful choral work by Anton Dvorak his “Sabat Mater”. This might be a musical remedy to sooth the wounded pride of a nation, already battered by a constant barrage of bad news lately. Most recently by the devastation and fall out from the H1N1 epidemic and as well an economic collapse and now more unfathomable losses befall the nation.

Mexico Economic Crisis, Fiat Peso Currency Skating on Thin Ice / Economics / Mexico
From the onset of the world's II GREAT DEPRESION the fiat Mexican peso has been on a roller coaster ride. Mexico officials have gone to great lengths to attribute the performance of the fiat peso to economic fundamentals. To assume such nonsense would be to believe “the tail wags the dog.” The México economy no doubt is in a tailspin along with the peso. Without vital monetary reform both will suffer greatly.

As I predicted , dear readers, Mexico is in the process of total collapse. The drug war violence has spun out of control so quickly that it is now a civil war and unlike the small time civil war with Mexico's southern Indians the Zapatistas, this one has the potential to topple the state government in very short order.Read full article... Mexico and the War Against the Drug Cartels in 2008 / Politics / Mexico
Editor's Note: This week's Global Security & Intelligence Report is an abridged version of Stratfor's annual report on Mexico's drug cartels. The full report, which includes extensive diagrams depicting the leadership of each cartel, will be available to our members on Dec. 11.
Mexico's war against drug cartels continued in 2008. The mission President Felipe Calderon launched shortly after his inauguration two years ago to target the cartels has since escalated in nearly every way imaginable. Significant changes in Mexico's security situation and the nature of the drug trade in the Western Hemisphere also have occurred over the last 12 months.

Is a Mexican Peso Currency Correction Overdue? / Currencies / Mexico
While perusing the latest Commitment of Traders Report, published on April 1st, we noticed that among the punters, like us, there was a 95% bullish reading i.e. 95% long open interest says players are positioned for the peso to move higher against the US dollar. This seems a fairly concentrated one-way bet. Often one-way bets lead to corrections, or intermediate-term trend changes.Read full article... Read full article...
