Top Three Benefits You Should Know About Solar Integrated Panels
Housing-Market / Solar Energy Nov 09, 2021 - 04:47 PM GMTIt’s one sure fact that most of us are already aware of: more property owners are choosing to have solar panels, and most of these property owners are also opting for integrated or in-roof panel systems. If you have been thinking about it for some time now, you may have your questions. But if you would like nothing more than to produce energy and not rely too heavily on the grid, your solar installation is worth the investment. But what about in-roof or integrated solar panels – are they worth it as well? Here are the top three benefits you should know about solar integrated panels.
What they are: the basic info
Of course, before you invest in anything, it would be wise to have the proper knowledge about it. This way, you can be sure of what you are investing in. But what exactly are in-roof or integrated panels, and what makes them different? Whilst on-roof or standard solar panels are similar – and almost the same – as in-roof solar panels in many respects, there is one major difference between the two. Integrated or in-roof panels are not designed to go on top of your roof; instead, they are designed to replace a portion of it. In other words, instead of mounting the panels on your roof's slates or tiles, they will make up your roof without any slates or tiles beneath. Your integrated solar panels will essentially act as your solar panel roof, and they will also be weather-proofed and as strong as regular tiles or slates, but with the addition of PV cells so you can produce energy for your home.
Their top three benefits
1. The benefit of aesthetic appeal
Not many property owners are too keen on disrupting or interrupting the façade of their properties with a solar panel installation, and a traditional fitting will have bulky (and heavy) panels covering a part of your roof. But integrated or in-roof installations are different, as you can have them sit evenly with your roof with no more slates or tiles underneath, allowing them to blend in. In turn, you will have a roof that is more aesthetically appealing, which could be a big benefit if you ever plan to sell your property in future.
2. The benefit of lighter weight
Without a doubt, if you have to install solar panels right on top of the tiles or slates of your roof, this will lead to more weight pressing down on the structure. Whilst it may not be an issue now, it could very well lead to problems in time. On the other hand, an integrated installation doesn't require any mounting frames, making it more lightweight. It works very well if you have an older or aged building or structure and its roof is more delicate. Your installer will remove a section of the slates or tiles on the roof and replace this section with lightweight in-roof panels, eliminating the burden of extra weight on your roof.
3. The benefit of fewer difficulties with planning permission
Another aspect that bothers homeowners about traditional installations is that they may have difficulties with planning permission. But this is hardly a problem with in-roof systems because they are flat and can seamlessly blend in with the rest of your roof.
