Virgin Media's Increasingly Unreliable Broadband Service
ConsumerWatch / ISP's Feb 15, 2019 - 12:27 PM GMTThe following map says it all of what to expect as a customer of Virgin Media. Where once livable outages of an hour or so are turning into near 24 hour losses of service.
Virgin Media's broadband service has increasingly become LESS reliable over the past year, where outages experienced have extended well beyond an hour, typically beyond 12 hours. With our areas (Sheffield) latest outage as of 5.30pm Thursday 14th Feb continued until 12.10pm Friday, so a loss of service for over 18 hours!
I have previously speculated that the trend for worse outages could be related to the overselling of their cable broadband services coupled with a breakdown of installed infrastructure as outages apparently cycle through the whole network. Which means all virgin broadband customers can expect serious outages several times per year, as that is how the network is managed so as to deal with consequences of the over selling of broad band service.
Anyway, it appears to be approaching the time when I will have to start searching for a more reliable alternative to Virgin Media, because broadband being down for over 18 hours is totally unacceptable, especially since it's only 3 months since the last similar outage, thus the frequency of long outages is increasing.
