Ways to Improve the Value of Your Home
Housing-Market / Home Improvements Dec 12, 2018 - 04:05 PM GMTProperty value now seems to finally be rising again, however there are also many ways you can improve this in your own homes. Here we cover ways to improve the value of your home.
Structural problems are always an issue for many homes and can lead to extra expenses down the road. Therefore it is important to identify these at an early stage and get them sorted. This could be done through redesigning the kitchen or bathroom areas. A few examples of regular problems include broken roof tiles, rotten timbers and even cracks in walls. Doors could also be damaged, so upgrading to a composite door would be a good investment moving forward and these are available here.
Another important part in a home, which if not kept in working order will reduce the price is central heating. Improving the efficiency of this can also be done through sealing any drafts that are coming through, replacing windows for double glazing and even adding insulation into the loft.
This also leads on to keeping services in your home updated when it comes to electricity and plumbing. If not kept on top of these could cause for very disruptive jobs down the road, that are very costly. As mentioned previously converting your loft can be a very wise investment, and is likely a much cheaper option compared to an extension.
This draws on to improving or adding to your current accommodation. The first thing many of us look at purchasing properties is the number of bedrooms. So adding more to your home, is a simple way that is only going to add value. An extension is not always required and looking at removing or even adding walls to create different space within your home is a more cost effective way of doing this.
Double glazing has become a regular for new built homes and for good reason as it can add considerable value to a home. Many people are also replacing windows for these, as it can result in big savings down the road on heating. Another reason for changing old windows is allowing in more natural light. Some old homes have that dark gloomy look to them, but changing windows can result in a more open plan, modern look to your home.
Another option that can improve the value of your home at a low cost is simply remodelling the existing space. Adding space in key areas such as the dining and living areas and kitchen is the best and simple way to add value to your property. Looking over the floor plan of your home and moving to less rooms but larger multi-functional open plan living space is a good move.
