Youtube Partner Programme New Rules 2019 - 4000 Subscribers, 10000 Hours Watch Time...

On the 20th of February Youtube demonetized all channels with less than 1000 subscribers and 4,000 hours annual watch time, ejecting them from the Youtube partner programme that amongst several benefits included monetization of videos which in most cases for Youtubers resulted in a token return of typically about $5-10 per month. So the blow for being ejected from the youtube partner programme was not financial. This leaves small youtubers with a continuing up hill battle to reach the new bar set at 1000 subs and 4k watch time hours before they will be reconsidered for joining the Youtube partner programme.

However, the approx 3 million of todays channels that did manage to exceed the new minimum requirments should not sit on their lorals because it is highly probable that this time next year we will see an even higher bar being set as YouTube effectively seeks to transform itself from YOU Tube into a broadcaster of popular channels that are advertiser friendly.Which means the era of YOU Tube is coming to an end as the video serving plantform transforms itself into AdTube, or CelebTube, but definetly NOT YOUtube as the history of changes suggest.

In April 2017, Youtube announced the first restriction of 10k lifetime views to be part of the the partner programme, which was an insignificant hurdle for most as it should have been easily achievable by those who put a little effort into their channels.

In Jan 2018 Youtube raised the bar exponentially higher, equating to approximeaty now requiring 120,000 views per annum (4000 watch hours), AND coupled with a 1000 subscriber count. This effectively culls the number of monetized channels from approx 6 million down to 3 million.

So what are lkely to be the new Youtube Partner rules to be announced early 2019?

Well, now approximately 3 million Youtube channels meet the new partner programme requirments which I am sure Youtube will want to further reduce to a more manangeable number for its 10,000 employed video reviewers to manually watch to check in terms of suitability for advertisers.

In all likelihood Youtubes next revision to the partner programme rules will likely see the number of channels monetized reduced to under 1 million. And data gleaned from Social Blade suggests that would mean that the 2019 Youtube partner programme minimum requirements will likely be set at 4000 suscribers and 10,000 Watch time hours. Which is now what all Youtubers who managed to meet the 2018 partner programme requirements should now work towards, else find themselves ejected from the Youtube partner programme during 2019. This would translate into only 20% of todays 1k+ subcriber channels managing to achieve the 2019 target.

However, it is unlikely to end there as 2020 is likely to see Youtube further cull the partner channel count by cutting the number of channels it monitors for advertisers from approx 1 million (2019) to probably under 1/2 million. And again analysis of data gleaned from Social Blade suggests to achieve this the new 2020 minimum partner programme requirements will be set at 10,000 subscribers and 20,000 watch time hours per year.

And that is what all of todays 2.5 million small yuoutubers with less than 10,000 subscribers have to look forward to during 2019 and 2020 as by design MOST i.e. at least 95% WILL NOT be able to achieve the 2020 requirements. Which is the primary objective for AdTube to reduce the partner programme down to a more managable number of less than 1/2 million monetized channels rather than the current 3 million monetized channels.
