Strong Stock Market Still, Won’t Give Way

Net on the day, the Dow was down 21.50 at 20,881.48. The S&P 500 was up .87 at 2373.47. The Nasdaq 100 was up 8.67 at 5394.57.
Advance-declines were 17 to 11 positive on the New York Stock Exchange, and 17 to 7 positive the Nasdaq. Up/down volume was 3 to 2 positive on New York, total volume of 3 billion shares traded. The Nasdaq traded 1.7 billion shares and had a 10 to 7 positive volume ratio.
TheTechTrader.com board was mostly higher today. Priceline.com (PCLN) was up 12.88 to 1767.12, reaching a new all-time high at 1772.49. Alphabet Inc. (GOOG) was up 2.29 to 845.54, and Apple Inc. (AAPL) up 6 cents to 139.14. Google and Apple also reached new all-time highs today. Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN) 2.13 to 854.59, and Netflix, Inc. (NFLX) 2.63 to 140.89.
Baidu, Inc. (BIDU) gained 51 cents to 172.74, Facebook, Inc. (FB) popped 81 cents to 138.79, and First Solar, Inc. (FSLR) climbed 44 cents to 32.40.
Tesla Motors, Inc. (TSLA) jumped 2.48 to 243.69.
Other point-plus gainers included NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA), up 2.73 to 101.85,
Biotech’s had a solid session. The Direxion Daily S&P Biotech Bull 3X ETF (LABU) was up just 26 cents to 53.21, bluebird bio, Inc. (BLUE) up 1.95 to 90.50, Concert Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (CNCE) up 1.66 to 17.99, Kite Pharma, Inc. (KITE) 1.94 to 85.92, and Supernus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (SUPN) 1.20 to 27.55.
On the downside, there were no point-plus losers.
Checking TheTechTrader.com percent-gain leaderboard, low-priced biotech’s did great. Cerulean Pharma Inc. (CERU) advanced 97 cents, or 64%, to 2.49, on 31.6 million shares traded, or 2000% more volume than average. Novadaq Technologies Inc. (NVDQ) rose 86 cents, or 12%, to 8.21, on 2.6 million shares traded. Tetraphase Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (TTPH) had a good day, up 82 cents, or 12%, to 7.77, on 1.6 million shares traded. Kopin Corporation (KOPN), on earnings, was vup 36 cents, or 11%, to 3.70, on 1.6 million shares traded.
Lifetime Brands, Inc. (LCUT) ran 4.45, or 31%, to 18.90. Aurinia Pharmaceuticals Inc. (AUPH) climbed 2.04, or 24%, to 10.54, on 33.4 million shares traded. Calithera Biosciences, Inc. (CALA) popped 2.34, or 19%, to 12.15.
Among other gainers, Pulse Biosciences, Inc. (PLSE), trading as high as 22.41, was up 2.42 to 20.63, Aqua Metals, Inc. (AQMS) up 2.18 to 21.89, Puma Biotechnology, Inc. (PBYI) up 4.75 to 44.80, and Willdan Group, Inc. (WLDN) up 2.83 to 36.13.
Gold extended its bounce back as the Direxion Daily Jr Gold Miners Bull 3X ETF (JNUG), reaching as high as 7.00, gained 80 cents to 6.16, and the Direxion Daily Gold Miners Bull 3X ETF (NUGT) advanced 32 cents to 8.01.
Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices popped early, coiled most of the session, and then broke out at the end of the day, challenging the all-time highs.
