Stock Market Narrowly Mixed Session

The day started out with a firm opening, they had a hard hit that held support, and then rallied into midday. At that point, they meandered back and forth, and actually drifted lower on the S&P 500, tried to rally late in the day, got back up to the highs on the Nasdaq 100, but the S&P 500 fell short and they pulled back. They finished nearly flat, closing mixed on the day.
Net on the day, the Dow was down 2.95 at 18,352.05. The S&P 500 was up .46 at 2164.25. The Nasdaq 100 was up 9.48 at 4743.81.
Advance-declines were about 400 issues positive on the New York Stock Exchange, and only about 100 issues positive on the Nasdaq. Up/down volume was 18 to 15 positive on New York, total volume of 3.4 billion shares traded. The Nasdaq traded 1 3/4 billion shares and had a 10 to 7 positive volume ratio.
TheTechTrader.com board was mixed. Priceline.com (PCLN) gave back 11.15 to 1359.99, but is trading 75 points higher in afterhours on good earnings. Google Inc. (GOOG) dropped 1.57 to 771.61, but Apple Inc. (AAPL) was up 8 cents to 105.87, Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) up 6.13 to 760.77, and Netflix, Inc. (NFLX) up 34 cents to 93.44.
Baidu, Inc. (BIDU) popped 32 cents to 162.56, Facebook, Inc. (FB) gained 1.85 to 124.36, but First Solar, Inc. (FSLR) lost 5.52 to 43.72 on a negative earnings report.
Tesla Motors, Inc. (TSLA) ran 4.82 to 230.61.
Other gainers of note included Exelixis, Inc. (EXEL), a swing traded of ours, up 1.68 to 11.07, on 22 million shares. ANI Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (ANIP) was up 4.29 to 66.39, Acacia Communications, Inc. (ACIA) up 3.49 to 64.49, NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA) 1.04 to 57.23, Targa Resources Corp. (TRGP) 1.94 to 40.45, and Twilio, Inc. (TWLO) 2.04 to 40.59.
On the losing side, Universal Display Corp. (OLED), on a very poor earnings report, was down 1.73 to 70.25, but 5 points lower in afterhours,
The Direxion Daily S&P Biotech Bull 3X ETF (LABU) dropped 1.42 to 44.95.
Checking TheTechTrader.com percent-gain leaderboard, Check-Cap Ltd. (CHEK) 1.05 to 2.44, or 76%, on 6.4 million shares. Ocular Therapeutix, Inc. (OCUL) eked out 1.43 to 5.63, or 34%, on 7 million shares. MagnaChip Semiconductor Corporation (MX) climbed 1.14 to 7.28, or 19%, on 2 million shares.
SAExploration Holdings, Inc. (SAEX) led the way today, exploding 31.55 to 40.75, or 342%, on 2.6 million shares. Helios and Matheson Analytics Inc. (HMNY) advanced 3.09 to 10.83, or 40%, on 2 million shares. NanoString Technologies, Inc. (NSTG) bounced 3.19 to 16.72, or 24%. Pacira Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (PCRX) closed up 7.14 to 44.63, or 19%, on 3.6 million shares.
Insulet Corporation (PODD) exploded 6.39 to 41.84, or 18%, on 3.9 million shares. XPO Logistics, Inc. (XPO), on 9.5 million shares, was up 4.06 to 33.00, or 14%. Jack in the Box Inc. (JACK) had a very good day, up 9.26 to 96.99, or 11%, on 3.2 million shares.
Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices were up at the get-go, dropped sharply, held support, bounced back very sharply to take out the highs, but was not able to follow through beyond that. The midday highs were the session highs. At the end of the day they pulled back and finished narrowly mixed.
