Immunity Politics And The End Of Democracy

Politics

Immune to Reason
Fear-motivated rejection of change in our society has become systematic or even pre-emptive. In politics and the political process this goes much further than only dumbing down, producing what we can call the Baby-and-Bathwater syndrome. The most intense negative result of this is that entire political parties and movements are now “vaccinated” against reality. Party platforms and leadershipa are no longer able to reason. This is much further into the danger zone than denying reality.

One of our problems is the huge numbers of examples of this – and so few examples of what we could (and should) call rational normality or the normal model of society. Of course defenders of Western Liberalism, whether political, social or economic who now often claim it has shifted or mutated to Western Libertarianism, tell us the totalitarian regimes of the 1930s to the 1950s or 1960s withered and failed due to the intrinsic superiority of western liberality.

It was so to speak a “pure market choice” where liberals and totalitarians fought it out in the ideas market with competing products. Many of these defenders of the western model will however accept that even in the 1930s and 1940s, writers particularly focused on totalitarian regimes including Aldous Huxley and George Orwell already presaged what was coming..

Huxley painted an image of democracy defeated and destroyed by a surfeit of useless information, soft drugs, mindless music and sexual frivolity among other methods used, or to be used by the dictators he thought would soon control western society. Orwell argued that Stalinist and Hitlerian police state  propaganda and ruthless repression would be used by the New Dictators. These were however only two different strategies for achieving the same goal – the destruction of western society and its values.

For individuals, the core values under threat from either the Huxley or Orwell “road map” is rational thought in a democratic society. Both for example said that all political debate and decision and action would be entirely removed from the public domain. Politics as it was in western society would be completely unknown – as it has become already.

The End of Politics
We already have massive evidence of this in almost all western societies - but due to a process we cannot exactly define. We can for example say it was “part-Huxley” and “part-Orwell” and converged in a state of non-politics, still passing itself off as politics. One example would be the incredible state of French politics from at latest 2012 and the election of Francois Hollande – France's most unpopular president, ever – and the defeat of Nicolas Sarkozy, followed by the complete collapse of his party called the UMP. This leaves France with a one-party “neo-democracy”. With all needed precautions because this is a recent and ongoing process, one factor causing the collapse of the UMP, among many others, was public fear of Sarkozy.

He was for example quite often called The Little Dictator by critics, but of a special sort. Anything he touched fell apart or became lost in a fog of conspiracy plots and insider dealings. One example was the Bernard Tapie affair. In this affair, probably by decision of Sarkozy, Tapie was given over 400 million euros of public money – basically for bankrupting several of his businesses in the 1990s and being bailed-out by the state-backed Credit Lyonnais bank, which also bankrupted itself!  One of the non-public UMP-designated arbitral group handing the money to Tapie was Christine Lagarde, then Sarkozy's economics minister.

Sarkozy's UMP stoutly defended all and any decision of The Leader, but with ever-declining credibility and conviction. Sarkozy moved on, ever more feverishly like a ferret on steroids, as the voters first turned against the UMP and then, in 2012, against Sarkozy himself. The UMP, which only means “a union to support the president”, which supposedly implies it could support any president who “upholds and defends UMP values” -  which are almost undefined -  was by early 2014 a rudderless ship. It was a permanent exhibition of endless squabbling, infighting and backbiting for senior party posts, but in the European elections of May 2014 it was saved from complete collapse – only by the massive unpopularity of Francois Hollande's Parti Socialiste! The one-party State.

No Politics, Please
The French process and paradigm of No Politics is now the norm in western society. The incumbent government or regime, when voted to power almost instantly loses all popular support, and at the next elections the “alternate party of government” will be voted back into power. This is only because there is No Alternative, due to both parties operating the same No Alternative politics. In the French case, of course, the “alternate party” no longer exists – but the No Alternative politics are cast in concrete.

Conspiracy theorists, intellectuals, the far right and the far left can scream this is Totalitarian but it is firstly a fact. One of their major problems is to show how the “shadowy oligarchs” have so infiltrated and corrupted the political process that any and all “muppet politicians” will totally obey them – despite this ensuring their defeat at the next “muppet elections”. To be sure the defeated politicians will slide into well-paid niches as consultants and board members for the Oligarchs' companies and associations, or if they are European may be “parachuted” into the European Commission or EU agencies. And so on, but this in no way explains how No Politics can become permanent, which in fact it cannot.

The theory that a New Oligarchy has destroyed and replaced democracy in western society is the meat for the conspiracy theory industry bu we have to ask why the process has been so rapid and total?  We have to note that the end result is not totalitarian but much closer to anarchy! We also have to ask why the new oligarchs, if they were the prime movers of this Whodunnit waited so long, and then acted with such insane determination that the result – No Politics – is so flagrant and unsustainable?

To be sure standard conspiracy theory first claims there is an open and shut case for the Oligarch takeover and the Oligarchs' supreme arrogance ensures they have no interest at all in how long the economy, let alone society or politics, can stumble along in a crippled state. But almost by definition an oligarch seeks wealth as well as power to do harm. If the harm done to the economy is massive, which it is, the goal of siphoning wealth from society will not survive.

This of course shifts us into domains like central banking and who the central bankers work for? The further reaches of conspiracy theory hold it as “evident” the central bankers first want to totally destroy the economy, and then presumably make off to the Bahamas or Paraguay with their trunks filled with gold bars. This makes it a “one trip hypothesis”  of elite plotting. After that, the oligarchs quit the sinking ship the same way, for example, that Nicolas Sarkozy quit politics in France saying that henceforth, he would no longer hinder the artistic career of his guitar-strumming female partner Carla The Star, “one of the best living rock artists who exist”, end of citation.

Endgame Theory
Like it or not, the only way we can explain the No Politics paradigm is to argue we have a nihilistic-apocalyptic endgame in play, in all the senses of the word. Chaos has more to do with it than planning. Alongside the deformed or shredded “dominant paradigms” of western society, like liberality, democracy and free market capitalism, what we have in their place is a confused melange of instant myths and one liner non-paradigms, struggling in the void.

Getting to that nadir and nexus is hard to argue as being solely due to concerted and constant planning by shadowy elites. The collapse of the political process, perhaps more Huxley than Orwell but incorporating both is in my opinion massive proof that other processes were are in play. Backtracking to the 1980s or even the 1990s, it was normal for average western citizens to believe in the political process – which they accepted was real and existed. This is totally difficult today.

If we want to keep the Elite Plot theory alive, we have to accept the elites of today are sociopathic, psychopathic and are “farming to quit”. They intend taking one last crop of wealth – and then disappear forever, organising The Last War to bring down the curtains. An all-out nuclear war with Putin using the Ukraine as the excuse would be ideal!

The problem for us is we would have to believe the new or current elites are far out into the Stalin-Hitler zone of madness, easily comparable in fact to the “one trip only” suicide bombers of ISIS or Al Qaeda. This doesn't fit the conventional identikit of Oligarchs except in a very few cases, making it necessary to look for other theories and explanations.
