From Gore-Bore To Gore-War
Politics / US Politics Jul 21, 2014 - 10:23 AM GMTThe Collapse of Concern
Time was, not many years ago when mainstream media was saturated with Al Gore genre material. One theme he particularly worked, to his own financial benefit, was the fear of massive coastal flooding and destruction as the Earth remorselessly heats up because we burned fossil fuels. Certainly for the last two or three years, this genre material and its fear theme have waned and may be dying. One reason was too much media hype, which cooled public interest in and fear of Heat Death. Opinion polls report ever less interest in the global warming issue or supposed issue. Apocalyptic climate change fell off the front pages, helped by what we can call a certain lack of gore.
Gore-war has fully replaced it. The argument for an “Elite Plot” to not only dumb down the western masses, but also to degenerate the public mind by the glove puppet media is strengthened by the news media obsessionally showing us pictures of dead bodies from Malaysian Airlines flight 17, anti-aircraft weapons, Israeli tanks and troops storming Gaza, and the Men in Black of ISIS in Syria and Iraq. Chopping off victims' heads with a rusty sword. Stoning them to death.
At any moment, the media will respond to the elite signal, and show us “smart missile clips” of buildings and bridges and power stations and sewage works being destroyed, and other gore-war genre material whenever “regime change and anti-terror operations” are decided.
The firm intention is to brutalize the public mind – preparing us for war - but the fatal flaw of this argument is simple to state.
Degenerate elites are part of a self-degenerating society. They are part and parcel of the process. The degeneration we are talking about, here, is what I call the Great Unknowing or the destruction of meaning in society. This crisis is ideological, cultural, moral and even semantic – that is a loss of interest in so-called “major issues”, and declining ability to understand anything written or said.
The leadership cult, such as it exists, shows that Unknowing has certainly penetrated the elites. Their ability to decide and act coherently, for example, has become heavily degraded in the past decade and because the elites are in no way Superhuman (they might like to believe that fantasy) they simply reflect a degenerate society. Put another way, the existence of degenerate or sadistic, or criminal and psychotic elites, who are also incapable of managing day-to-things like the economy, would not be possible in another type of society. This is a revolutionary agenda.
Flirting With the Flash Mob
The rising call for transformation and revolution, since the 1970s and 1980s, essentially means that society has to be rebuilt before another cycle of unknowing becomes inevitable. The long term historical reality is that the elites reflect and concentrate the fatal faults of society – and this is always their undoing. The present-day cult of violence and gore is a signal and prelude to change.
To be sure we have a pyramidal society. Conspiracy theorists claim that the NWO is a real project of certain political and military elites and their strategists who seek total power. The image is sometimes used of the Mayan pyramids with a high priest on top slashing hundreds of victims to death with a silex blade in a single day – but this image of degenerate social power and governance was supposedly superceded by democracy. This supposedly has “checks and balances” but the decline and defeat of democracy, intensified by the unknowing process turns them into “tricks and cadences” measuring the speed at which the 1% at the top of the pyramid become even richer operating the Ponzi tricks of the finance industry. In turn, this only shows that the economy has been fatally mismanaged – not simply badly or poorly managed.
As we know, democracy is fragile. It only thrives when there is full knowledge, by the people, of society's goals and the ways and means of achieving them, in other words Karl Popper's 'Open Society'. When society unlearns and disowns knowledge, including the knowledge of democracy, we must expect that former democracies will soon mutate into the Flash Mob. Anarchy will soon be followed by Tyranny! Gore-war will have returned to its home base.
The Deeper Problems
Pyramidal societies had their tricks and cadences, transposed in crony democracy as the outright defeat of knowledge, the loss of meaning and the wanton mutation of reality. In ancient pyramidal society, any new concept was quickly drawn up the edifice of power and transformed into special elite knowledge. For example and whether in E and SE Asia, India, Arabia, Egypt or Central America the ancient pyramidal societies had their astronomer-scientists close to the power elite's theologians, transforming new knowledge to reinforce elite control. Only in certain crisis conditions, however, did these ancient societies indulge in permanent spectacles of violent death, like the Maya.
Breaking out of that “hermetic ideological” system was not only a stated goal of European social democrats but also of the late 19th and early 20th century European “ecstatic philosophers” including the revolutionary Christian philosophers Teilhard de Chardin and Henri Bergson, as well as the atheist Nietsche. Their main argument was hyper-democratic, that all men should directly link to God – in Nietsche's case after the death of God - guided by Supreme leaders who force the mass into understanding that humanity itself is the Deity.
We can argue that an earlier version of today's Great Unknowing, in the 1920s and 1930s, featured the same deformation of reality, perversion of knowledge, and decadence of society using the prop of repeated and sadistic violence and the intellectual crutch of emerging and breaking philosophical concepts. We can say that Unknowing was a basic foundation stone for the ultra pyramidal states of Antiquity - and also underpinned the police state, whether capitalist or communist, as is well described in George Orwell's '1984'.
Metastasing the Metastase
What are called secondary or metastasic cancers usually spring from or at least closely relate to primary, deep or primitive cancers. The primary cancer may disappear, through treatment or due to other biomedical factors and processes, but the metastases can continue. They can be almost harmless or dangerous and life-threatening. Sometimes they can be treated so as to make them disappear for 10 or 15 years or longer – for a person of 70 years age diagnosed with secondary cancer this can mean their life expectancy extends beyond 85.
That is well above the average life expectancy in most developed countries, and two times the life expectancy of people in many low income countries. At least some cancers can therefore be hailed as “largely under control” and possibly on the way to complete control, but this omits the often nearly lifelong residence of metastases, whether they are life-threatening or not.
Millenarian cults - our present case is the cult of violent death - can be called cultural metastasic events or processes, but the 21st century cult of Unknowing in western societies can be likened to a deep or primitive cancer. It generates cultural metastases that, like cancers in the body, can lie semi-dormant for long periods of time. On occasions and under certain circumstances, the metastases break out. We are experiencing that today. Images of violent death are everywhere.
Making the comparison more useful, cancer science or oncology identifies many types of primitive cancer able to stay dormant for long periods and later potentialize themselves, decades after an initial contact with carcinogens. The cause or causes may have disappeared, for decades, before the deep or primary cancer develops, usually making it totally impossible to treat the initial causes. Therefore, pursuing the analogy, we should not be surprised that culture-change events welling up in western society – say in 1968 or 1975 – could stay dormant for decades, before acting.
The Cult of Risk
Some historians and sociologists, studying western society, do not accept that millenarian cults exist in our society. Conversely, ethnologists and anthropologists have long used the term and like the above cancer analogy say these cults, in non-western societies, are a method for treating the symptoms but not the causes of social breakdown. – which may have disappeared or cannot be identified. In non-western societies and at their scale of population size and weapons technology, millenarian outbreaks can cause the equivalent of civil war and large loss of life.
The exact opposite of risk avoidance is the rush to war. During millenarian outbreaks in non-western societies – and the source of these sports for western society – what we call “extreme risk sports” are often commonplace. For example cliff jumping with a rope that may or may not prevent fatal impact. The objective is to “flirt with death”.
The rush to all-out war is a collective flirt with death, organized by the elites, with a specific end in view. War. The preparatory phases logically need the brutalization or “strengthening of resolve” of society. The rush to war avoids making any search for and treatment of the deeper underlying causes of a war-prone nexus. The process is favoured and intensified by the cultural and semantic breakdown that I call the Great Unknowing.
In our case and today, facing nuclear-armed Russia, the insanity of this refusal to treat our real but deep-seated problems is awesome and terrifying but the so-called mainstream media avoids all serious discussion of why we are engaged on the path to war.
