State of the Union Address by a weak lame duck President Bush
Politics / US Politics Jan 23, 2007 - 06:04 PM GMTPresident George W Bush is shortly to deliver his 7th State of the Union address, now ranked 43rd out of 43 presidents by some 415 historians.
Key points that President Bush will cover -
1. Recognition of Global Warming
Year after year George Bush has dismissed global warming as an issue, Could the texan oil man now finally be changing his spots and going green ?
Or is the announcement of a 20% cut in petrol consumption, another Halliburtonesk money making scheme for certain Republican supporting corporations that would likely profit from emissions trading as has happened in the Europe. One thing is for sure, this President could not care less for environment. Even the disastrous Katrina failed to deliver more than a fly-over photo opportunity.
2. Iraq War
Four years on, and 4 speeches later, the war that was supposed to have been won in March 2003 continues to worsen. The plan now is to send 20,000 more troops, as if 20,000 more troops is going to make any difference other than to attempt to hold the line into the next presidency so as George Bush can avoid an humiliating defeat. Much as the see no evil, hear no evil policy that Tony Blair has adopted in the UK.
70% of the american people are against the failed Iraq policy and there may be resistance to George Bushes Iraq plan.
America is now seen as the bad guy by most of the rest of the world, according to a poll by the BBC World Service
How will history remember George Bush ?
Iraq ?
An totally unnecessary war playing right into the hands of Osama Bin Laden. Fought on the basis of lies, that America appears destined to lose.
Global Warming ?
The icecaps are melting, the glaciers are melting and erratic weather is being recorded the world over. What has this president done ? Nothing
Economic Mismanagement ?
Record debt burden for future generations. An economy in dire straights with a dollar about to start its next leg lower whilst inflation looks set to take off.
Or for Bushisms such as -
"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." , click here to listen
"My answer is bring 'em on." —President George W. Bush, on Iraqi insurgents attacking U.S. forces, Washington, D.C., July 3, 2003 click here to listen )
I think, maybe 50 years down the road, Iraq will find it tough to beat the many and varied Bushisms. As even hitler 50 years on is seen more like fist waving a clown than what he actually was.
So what of the State of the Union Speech ? What I want to know who wrote it and how much was he paid ?
Lets hope in the remaining 2 years George Bush does not complete his 'mission' of destroying America's future !
