Post Traumatic Stress Disorder PTSD Trauma Industry Scroungers
Politics / Scams Jul 27, 2009 - 05:59 AM GMTBBC1 Panorama programme later today at 8.30pm (UK), and available afterwards on BBC Iplayer investigates the great gold rush that is on in the British trauma industry that has exploded up in recent years to more than a £7 billion annual industry.
PTSD was originally termed to mean for those suffering from the consequences of war, including soldiers and civilians, however over the years the personal injuries claim industry has concentrated on this difficult to disprove condition for a whole deluge of claims running in the hundreds of thousands of pounds for anything from minor shunts to the backs of cars to even non injury events in the workplace, i.e. some one speaking to someone in an office with the wrong tone of voice etc.
The examples are numerous, such as reported by the Daily Mail
"The train driver awarded £35,000 for hitting a goat that had strayed onto the railway line."
The ambulanceman who claimed £5,000 because the sight of injured or dying people made him 'stressed'.
The administrator who wanted £800,000 for what she claimed was fibromyalgia - searing pain in the muscles - after a rear-end shunt that caused £250 of damage to the car bumper.
and the list goes on...
The only solution to the PTDS scams is for compensation only to be paid for the medical treatment of PTSD.
For the full investiagation into the Trauma Industry that creates a problem that is not even there, watch BBC 1 8.30pm tonight, also available on Iplayer for the next 7 days.
