Comparing DELL to MSFT When Added to Goldman Buy List
Companies / Microsoft Jul 11, 2009 - 07:17 AM GMTFriday, Goldman Sachs raised Dell (NASDAQ: DELL) to its Conviction Buy List, which could have a meaningful impact on the technology sector, and possibly the overall market.
A similar situation occurred on June 19th concerning Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT). For purposes of illustration, let's have a look at what happened to MSFT since June 19th, which reiterates that in a tough market, even Goldman's recommendation may not have lasting efficacy....
On June 19th, Goldman elevated MSFT to its most prestigious Buy List, which happened to be the high for the March-June upleg. The stock has declined about 9% since that day.
What will be the fate of DELL? The stock should be watched closely for its reaction (sustained or otherwise) to the Goldman recommendation – and perhaps as a proxy for the health of the technology sector, the QQQQs, and the overall market as well.
