AMAZON AMZN Earnings - Buy the Rumour Sell the News / Companies / Amazon

AMAZON - $97.5, EGF -61%, EGF12M -65%, PE 51
Another FAANG stock that retail investors obsess over. The problem with Amazon is that it has never been cheap! That has always been at risk of a valuation reset hence it's recent dissent into the pit of investing hell for all those who failed to read the writing only recently bottoming out at $81. If you look at the charts then you will see that Amazon is to date the only one that has become MORE EXPENSIVE as the stock price has fallen! This is a function of PRINTING SHARES coupled with Amazon being Bezos' personal piggy bank to extract funds from for his boyz toyz. The stock price has bounced to resistance so I don't see much upside. Amazon is definitely not one stock to get carried away with accumulating, I am not seeing a way for this stock to get anywhere near it's all time highs for many years!

The stocks bear market continues with most AI tech stocks putting in new bear market lows during the past week, with key exceptions being Facebook and AVGO. Whilst Apple, Microsoft and Nvidia were the weakest stocks of the week, though all stocks rallied strongly Friday led by AMD which ended the week up 10% followed by Micron at +6% which are definitely two stocks to aim to accumulate during any further market weakness.

AMAZON the Dark Horse Stock / Companies / Amazon

Blasted off into space on strong earnings just as I was getting ready to gorge on it's post earnings corpse Facebook style. Still I had built a sizeable stake via dozens of small orders in the lead up to the earnings report which painted a picture of a stock that looks set to put earnings (profits) before reinvestments, or it could be just a one off, i.e. cashing on the Christmas trade boosted by the last pandemic wave of any significance.
My current exposure has fallen a little to 1.7% from 1.9% of the week before as I took the rally to and ABOVE $3,200 to take profits in advance of further buying opportunities in Amazon later, especially if it comes anywhere near filling it's distant buying levels. The PE drops to 48.7 but on the EGF basis the PE falls to 28 hence why the stock popped higher so strongly.

Traded down from $3450 to a low of $3270 on a bad earnings report, it should have fallen a lot more, but investors seem content to buy a company trading on a PE of 68. There is a market disconnect here. so I am lowering my buying level for Amazon from $3020 to $2600, and even that is probably still too high for what it is..

Unfortunately this means the odds are stacked against all those looking for lower prices. Of course we can get lucky and the market panics and takes the likes of Amazon with it but in technical and valuation terms seems very unlikely.

Amazon had soared into the stratosphere, literally doubling in price from its March low, breaking above $3400 early July putting Amazon on an eye watering EC level of 148, prompting me to sell over 50% of my holdings which I flagged ahead of time in the comments, following which Amazon did correct down to $2900 though not to anywhere near it's buying level of $2525. Following which Amazon did manage to break to a new high of $3552, but again it was not able to hold the levels due very high valuations which currently has Amazon trading down to $3099 and it looks like I'm not the only one who thought Amazon had become a bit too expensive as Jeff Bezos sold another $3 billion of Amazon stock early November bringing his total sales for 2020 to $10 billion.
