It's crunch time for the parents of Sheffield's children starting secondary school this year as today they will find out whether their child has obtained a place at their preferred / catchment area school or not. Or as has been increasingly the case during the past few years are disappointed by the outcome as they contemplate appealing. A crisis due to a number of factors that include continuing out of control eastern european migration, year on year cuts in school budgets and rampant school applications fraud all contributing towards a crisis in school places.

Sheffield School Places Admissions Crisis - End of Catchment Areas Labour Election Bribe? / Local / Sheffield
The Labour controlled Sheffield City Council is desperately attempting to address the perfect storm that the city faces as the demand for places at Sheffield's best state schools far exceeds places available that for some schools is resulting in twice the number of applications as there are places (i.e. Dobcroft Infants Sch. places 90, applications 150). The perfect storm is as a consequences of several converging factors of year on year real terms budget cuts at a time of a rising natural birth rate, continuing out of control immigration and its consequences in terms of disruption of social cohesion in areas of the city, desperate parents utilising every trick under the sun to circumvent the catchment area rules such as encouraging over eager psychologists to expand the scope of the Special Educational Needs statements (SEN's) that for some schools has now been expanded to include 1/3rd of all children, and an epidemic in outright fraudulent school applications in terms of use of catchment area addresses.

Parents of approx 6000 Sheffield students will be counting down to the deadline for making a secondary school application for the academic year starting September 2015, where the deadline for online applications is 22nd October 2014 and 31st October for paper applications with supporting information to be supplied by no later than 26th November. Sheffield Eid Festival 2014, Millhouses Park Photos / Local / Sheffield
The Sheffield Eid Festival of 2014 expanded from 1 day to a 2 day event turned out to be a tale of 2 days, with only approx 4,000 people attending on Saturday (2nd August) compared to twice the number of at least 8,000 attending on Sunday (3rd August). Though this mismatch between numbers attending had less to do with the organisers and more to do with the Met Office / BBC's inaccurate weather forecast of rain literally for the whole of the Saturday time-table that failed to materialise.

Gaza Death Cloud Hangs Over Sheffield Eid Festival 2014 at Millhouses Park / Local / Sheffield
Many of the regions muslim communities had been eagerly looking forward to celebrating the end of the month of Ramadan by enjoying their second year of festivities at the Sheffield Eid Festival to be held at Millhouses park this weekend on 2nd and 3rd August 2014, that last year was proclaimed as being a huge success, attended by over 7,000 people due to the fact that entry was / is FREE.

Sheffield Half Marathon Cancelled Incompetent Organisers Refusing to Refund Runners / Local / Sheffield
Sheffield, supposedly the city of sport has been truly nationally humiliated as within minutes of the start of the cities annual half marathon it was cancelled due to for all reasons lack of water, which left some 4,500 runners, many of whom had trained for months to stand twiddling their thumbs. Some in disgust decided to run the half marathon anyway. However, the organisers were not even competent at canceling the race by failing to properly announce to all of the entrants that the race had indeed been cancelled so over half the entrants followed the lead of those at the front and ran the race, relying on the good people of Sheffield to provide them with water enroute.
