British Pound Could See Declines / Currencies / British Pound
Market activity in the GBP/USD has shown some interesting trends over the last several quarters and now that the Bank of England has delivered on its expected rate increase it remains to be seen if these moves can still continue. In most cases, when a central bank decides to raise their lending rates markets will experience an upward surge in the trading value of that currency. But while we have seen some bullish activity in the British Pound, there is scope for further downside if broader financial volatility increases next week.

Fragmenting Countries, Part 1: Catalonia Is Just The Beginning / Politics / European Union
Picture a life where you do most of your shopping through Amazon.com and the local farmers’ market, most of your communicating through Facebook and Instagram, much of your travel via Uber, and much of your saving and transacting with bitcoin, gold and silver.
Do you really need an immense, distant, and rapacious central government? Maybe not. Perhaps your region or ethnic group would be better off forming its own independent country.

It’s Time To Challenge What You Think You “Know” About The Stock Market / Stock-Markets / Stock Market 2017
I know I am not the traditional author you come across on most financial sites. Most others will provide you with traditional notions of the stock market based upon rationalities. So, many authors will suggest that we “cannot separate public policy and geopolitics from the markets,” they will focus on “market valuations,” they will claim that “fundamentals do not support this rally,” and will provide you with many, many other reasons as to why they have continually believed that this rally would never happen.

Fragile Stock Market Bull in a China Shop / Stock-Markets / Stock Market 2017
“So the modern world may be increasing in technological knowledge, but, paradoxically, it is making things a lot more unpredictable.” – Nassim Nicholas Taleb, Antifragile: Things That Gain From Disorder
“Success brings an asymmetry: you now have a lot more to lose than to gain. You are hence fragile.” – Nassim Nicholas Taleb, Antifragile: Things That Gain From Disorder
I had read Nassim Taleb’s other best-selling tomes about risk, randomness and black swans – Fooled by Randomness & The Black Swan. They were not easy reads, but they were must reads. He is clearly a brilliant thinker, but I like him more because he is a prickly skeptic who scorns and ridicules academics, politicians, and Wall Street scumbags with gusto. There were many passages which baffled me, but so many nuggets of wisdom throughout each book, you couldn’t put them down.

Sheffield Leafy Suburbs Tree Felling's Triggering House Prices CRASH! / Housing-Market / Sheffield
Sheffield City Council's 'Streets Ahead' PFI Contract with the Spanish Ferrovial owned Amey has been busing ripping the green out of England's greenest city England during 2017. As Sheffield's tree lined leafy suburbs that the estate agents so welcoming advertise are increasingly becoming no more. Trees that have taken more than a 100 years to reach their adult splendour have been felled in there thousands leaving behind either voids or a £20 sapling that rarely survives or is prone to falling prey to vandalism, all in exchange for large trees with capital values of between £50k and £150k now permanently gone!

Uranium URA Intermediate Cycle Update / Commodities / Uranium
Friday sure looked like a capitulation day for the Uranium sector and possibly a cycle low is forming but is it just a Trading Cycle Low (TCL/DCL) or perhaps also an Intermediate or Yearly Cycle Low (ICL/YCL) or as well? First, you may wish to review my last update on the sector.
https://surfcity.co/2017/09/21/uranium-ura-energy-cycle/
Six charts below on URA, CCJ and NXE each with two charts. The first for each is a 3 year Weekly showing Intermediate and Yearly Cycle Lows (ICLs & YCLs). These charts make a somewhat compelling case that Friday’s low may well be a longer ICL/YCL but we may also see an undercut low.

Basics about forex trade and the foreign exchange market / Currencies / Forex Trading
What is Forex Market?
The foreign exchange market is a vast marketplace where currencies are traded. Currencies and exchanging them with another currency hold prime importance around the world. Be it for travel, education, business or any other purpose, we need to relocate to a different country and need to exchange our currencies to the equivalent amount of local currency. As for example, if you are French on a tour to India, you can’t pay for food or conveyance in euros as they are not accepted. You need to seek help from a broker or an agent who exchanges your euros to the equivalent amount of Indian rupee that you can spend. The same theory is applicable all across the world. So, there are firms who provide a platform to the traders to buy or sell foreign currencies at the current exchange rates. This is where Forex tirdzniecība comes into existence.

Markets Big Macro Play Ahead / Interest-Rates / US Interest Rates
At NFTRH, we are about major macro turning points above all else. Of course, it is often years between these turning points or points of significant change so we are also about the here and now, and managing the trends, Old Turkey style.*
Since we are all learning all the time, I have no problem admitting to you that while right and bullish on commodities and stocks in 2009, after becoming bullish on the precious metals in Q4 2008, I completely ignored Old Turkey due to my inner biases. The result has been that after taking excellent profits from the precious metals bull, personally, I have greatly under performed the stock market bull despite holding a bullish analytical view for the majority of the post-2012 period.

Fed/ECB Strangle Stocks Bull Market / Stock-Markets / Stock Market 2017
This epic central-bank-easing-driven global stock bull is starting to be strangled by the very central banks that fueled it. This week the European Central Bank made a landmark decision to drastically slash its quantitative easing next year. That follows the Fed’s new quantitative-tightening campaign just getting underway this month. With CBs aggressively curtailing easy-money liquidity, this stock bull is in serious trouble.
The US flagship S&P 500 broad-market stock index (SPX) has powered an incredible 280.6% higher over the past 8.6 years, making for the third-largest and second-longest bull market in US history! The resulting popular euphoria, a strong feeling of happiness and confidence, is extraordinary. So investors brazenly shrugged off the Fed’s September 20th QT and the ECB’s October 26th QE-tapering announcements.

Bitcoin Might Test All-time High / Currencies / Bitcoin
Is Bitcoin in bubble territory? Certainly, the price pattern this year looks like an exponential one, at least locally, but there are also opposing views. In an article on CNBC, we read:

He is best known for books such as "The Intelligent Asset Allocator" and "The Four Pillars of Investing" that show independent investors how to manage their money for the long term. He is currently retired as a doctor, but co-principal at Efficient Frontier Advisors, a money management firm for the very wealthy.

Volatility on Steroids / Politics / Social Issues
It’s been a while since we last heard from longtime friend of the Automatic Earth Dr. Nelson Lebo III, New Englander living in Wanganui, New Zealand. Nelson has written a fine collection of articles on this site through the years.
Of course I thought, when I first saw this piece in my mailbox, that he would have written about New Zealand’s new prime minister, Labour’s 37-year-young Jacinda Ardern, whose first action in her new job will be to prevent foreigners from buying existing homes in her country. It’ll be interesting to see how she intends to do so while remaining inside the Trans Pacific Partnership -TPP- agreement.
