British Government Defends BP / Politics / Environmental Issues
Judging the British reaction to the Gulf crisis, the Conservatives have now redefined the stakes beyond those of BP market capitalization losses. As one wire-service headline framed it: "Britain sticks up for BP". Comments left at British sites show anti-Americanism new to an otherwise friendly and allied relationship. The British press has whipped America for Obama's clumsiness, bad language, poor diplomatic skills and histrionic threats; while the British nation seems perfectly groomed, if I am to believe the media, to identify themselves with BP, a private corporation.

BP Oil Disaster Could Hit Europe Via the Powerful Gulf Stream Current / Politics / Environmental Issues
The Obama Administration and senior BP officials are frantically working not to stop the world’s worst oil disaster, but to hide the true extent of the actual ecological catastrophe. Senior researchers tell us that the BP drilling hit one of the oil migration channels and that the leakage could continue for years unless decisive steps are undertaken, something that seems far from the present strategy.

Why Did The U.S. Refuse International Help on The Gulf Oil Spill? / Politics / Environmental Issues
Despite the vow by President Obama to keep the Gulf oil spill a top priority until the damage is cleaned up, 50 days after the BP rig exploded, a definitive date and meaningful solution is yet to be determined for the worst oil spill in the U.S. history.
So, you would think if someone is willing to handle the clean-up with equipment and technology not available in the U.S., and finishes the job in shorter time than the current estimate, the U.S. should jump on the offer.

Obama Powerless Against BP as Gulf Oil Spill Continues / Politics / Environmental Issues
After BP successfully placed a cap to divert some of the spewing oil into tankers, thousands of gallons continue to flow daily into the gulf. August is slated as the earliest date that any permanent solution may emerge. BP remains totally in charge of potentially the largest environmental disaster in the earth’s recorded history, a fact that proves — in “check mate” fashion — that corporations dominate the inner workings of the U.S. government, a truth previously revealed by the bank bailouts.

Breaking News BP Gulf Oil Disaster, Blown a Hole in the Sea Floor? / Politics / Environmental Issues
Dr Stephen A Rinehart writes: These are from a close source (cannot confirm yet). If true, could world stock markets crash soon?! I am not the one who talked to Matt Simmons - the source talked to Matt Simmons. Interesting is Sen Nelson mentioned on National TV that there are "reports of oil seeping up from the seabed and if true may mean the relief well amy not work unless you can plug at the bottom because all the casing is damaged".

US Administration Helplessly Watches Gulf Oil Slick Growing Bigger / Politics / Environmental Issues
US Attorney General Eric Holder announced the beginning of the criminal investigation filed into the breakdown on the oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico. BP Gulf Oil Spill Polluting the Whole Planet, The Game Changer Of The Millennium / Politics / Environmental Issues
The Gulf Oil Spill has proven to be the most consequential environmental catastrophe of the modern era, and yet it has not even come on shore much except for the sullied patches of LA coastline that we watch on the evening news. The documentary “BLACK WAVE” quite poignantly illustrates that, with an oil spill, the most serious effects are felt for years, and even decades later. This illuminating retrospective over the last 20 years in the wake of the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill in Alaska presents a graphic portrayal of the tearing of the social fabric, and the many dimensions of societal breakdown due to the unrelenting environmental degradation of that terrible disaster.

Oily Politics Led to BP Gulf Environmental Disaster / Politics / Environmental Issues
Gov. Bobby Jindal (R-La.) had a good idea to slow or stop the Gulf Coast oil spill from reaching shore. Build artificial barrier islands, he told the federal government. He wanted the Army Corps of Engineers to dredge the Gulf of Mexico and the Mississippi River to strengthen and connect the existing barrier islands. The $350 million plan, which Jindal demanded be paid for by BP Oil, would establish an 80–85 mile barrier, about 200 feet wide and six feet high. The barriers would also protect the marshlands, the federal wildlife preserves, and a fragile ecosystem.Read full article... Read full article...

An Open Letter To Governor Charlie Crist Re: Bp Oil Volcano / Politics / Environmental Issues
Dear Governor Crist,
We are witnessing the greatest environmental catastrophe of the modern era in the Gulf of Mexico. Some of the top experts have already estimated that this oil volcano has far surpassed the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill. Even if the current “stopgap” measures temporarily contain this gusher, it still remains an extraordinary challenge to permanently cap. Simply put, we have HUGE problems before us no matter how you look at it. Many are silently weeping in the privacy of their homes because of the sheer enormity and profound gravity of this ongoing, unprecedented, manmade disaster.
