How To Calculate VoIP Costs And Bandwidth In Order To Save Money

Personal_Finance / Money Saving Dec 07, 2015 - 12:42 PM GMT

By: Boris_Dzhingarov

Personal_Finance There are various different reasons why you would want to take advantage of VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) services. We can say that there are numerous advantages that instantly appear when you compare with the regular telephony models. However, this does not mean that you can simply go to the first VoIP provider and get a wonderful deal that you are going to love. You want to be sure that you save as much as possible and that you make a good decision.

There are many different options that are available. Some are tailored for personal users. Others like are tailored to fit the needs of both personal users and travelling businessmen. No matter what situation you are in, the thing that is important is how many calls you are going to make and receive, together with the call quality that is necessary at any point of a day. Unfortunately, this is not so easy to figure out if you do not have a lot of technical knowledge.

Bandwidth Considerations

The first thing that you will have to consider is how much bandwidth is necessary. This is where things are quite complicated. As you use the internet in order to make a phone call, there are data packets that will move from one device to another. This process consumes bandwidth. You want to be sure that you have enough bandwidth available from the provider to deal with how much you are going to use the devices.

VoIP cost will include network bandwidth costs and prices are normally determined based on a relationship between voice data packet volume and network capacity. To put it as simple as possible, if you need to make more calls at the same time, you will need higher bandwidth in order to maintain a suitable conversation quality.

In most situations you are going to have a test done at your home/office in order to determine call quality present. This test is known as MOS (Mean Opinion Score). The call quality is rated on a scale of 1 to 5. Whenever call quality drops from what you need, you will want to consider making modifications or moving to a higher data plan.

Prices

No matter what exact VoIP system you need, it is a certainty that on the long run you are going to pay less if compared with the regular landlines. This is something that cannot be denied. However, you will want to save as much as possible. In order to do this you will need to figure out exactly what is necessary for your current situation.

It is highly recommended that you deal with the top VoIP service providers since they also offer help from advisors that can tell you exactly what option would be the best for you. The lack of knowledge that you may have about the technical side of Voice over Internet Protocol would no longer be a problem. When you deal with the best service providers, you can be sure that the advice offered would be suitable for you.
