Personal_Finance / Credit Cards & Scoring Apr 10, 2008 - 10:45 PM GMT

Personal_Finance As you spend money using your air miles credit card, you accrue points that you can redeem for car hire, flights, or hotels.

An Air miles credit card can be very useful for regular travelers that wish to save on flights, but people often think they would need to spend a fortune to manage to get any free flights.

To dispel this myth, we have put together a list of our favourite destinations, and what, on average you would need to spend to get enough air miles points.

Air Miles Destinations, our top 6…

Destination

Average Spend Needed

1 – Paris – This city has it all! – Artists and the arts, Wine, Restaurants, Romance the Eiffel tower…

2 – Rio ! Go visit the land of the Samba!

3- Cairo – Visit the pyramids – Giza is just on the edge of this miraculous city

4 – Tokyo – A taste for sushi? – Tokyo also houses the centre of the Sumo wrestling world!

5 - Madrid – Spain has much to offer anyone, visit its capital city for amazing food, wine and nightlife

6 – Cape Town – Visit the famous table mountain, amazing national parks or the beautiful botanical gardens at Kirstenbosch

So, although a trip to the supermarket may not get you a flight around the world, as you can see, a flight for a short break away does not require a mortgage either! – But what else should you know about air miles cards?

•  Not all air miles are created equal! – Our table is a rough guide to wet you appetite, check exact how many points you need for your flights with your provider.

•  If you do not think you will be spending enough on your card to earn a free flight, consider switching to one of the other reward cards

•  Always pay off your balance! - Air miles credit cards tend to have higher interest rates than normal cards, so clear your balance before you get charged excessive fees!

All in all, if you spend a moderate amount on your card, and can be disciplined in your repayments, thus avoiding paying large interest rates each month, then there can be a great benefit to using an air miles credit card .
