Rotherham By-election Who Will Win? Hospice CEO, Journalist or a Priest?

Rotherham voters are counting down towards the 29th of November Parliamentary by-election for their next Rotherham MP that was called following the resignation of the disgraced expenses fiddling Labour MP Denis MacShane who was found guilty of submitting false invoices totaling £7,500, but was protected from criminal prosecution under Parliamentary privilege.

Subsequently each mainstream party has put forward their own candidate for election, however none of whom are a resident of Rotherham or have any substantive links with Rotherham.

The Labour party went to great lengths to force an outsider onto the people of Rotherham in so far as to exclude all local labour party candidates that stood for the selection process which resulted in chaotic scenes at their candidates selection meeting (Labour Elite Betrays Local People by Dictating Outside MP).

One of the fundamental prerequisites for democracy is that the person seeking to represent an constituency in parliament should be from within that community, which is a fundamental aspect that all of the major political parties have failed to adhere to by imposing candidates who will undoubtedly only pay lip service towards serving the people of Rotherham, with the tendency to only show their faces in the run upto elections.

In which respect the voters of Rotherham in addition to existing party allegiances should also consider the suitability of each of the standing candidates in terms of how they will be able to serve the interests of the people of Rotherham when they reside from tens to hundreds of miles away.

Candidates Residence in Order of Distance from Rotherham Constituency (Nearest first)

  • Simon Copley - Independant - Rother Valley, Rotherham - Priest
  • Clint Bristow - Doncaster - EDL Organiser
  • David Wildgoose - English Democrat - Sheffield - Politician
  • Ralph Dyson - Independant - Barnsley - Teacher, NUT Secretary.
  • Simon Wilson - Conservative - Normanton Pontefract & Castleford, West Yorkshire - Manager
  • Sarah Champion - Labour - Derbyshire - Children's Hospice CEO
  • Jane Collins - UKIP - Haltemprice & Howden, Humberside - Politician
  • Michael Beckett - Liberal Democrats - Malton, North Yorkshire - Former CAB Manager
  • Paul Dickson - Independant - Wansbeck, Northumberland - ?
  • Yvonne Ridley - Respect - Roxburghshire, Scotland - Journalist

The usual politics will be played out until election day, with the right blaming immigrants for everything under the sun, the left blaming the Coalition government for cuts, Tories blaming Labour for bankrupting Britain, and the Liberal Democrats continuing to fade away as their party slowly drifts towards oblivion.

There is much talk of Respects, Yvonne Ridley having a good chance of beating labour. Her greatest asset is that the people of Rotherham don't know anything about her, for if they did they would find out that the last thing that would interest Yvonne are the mundane day to day issues of the people of Rotherham as following the election she would be apt to once more go flying off halfway across the world to fight causes far removed from likes of NHS treatments and local school places.

Who Will Win ?

Probability continues to strongly favour Labour's Sarah Champion winning the by-election by a sizeable margin, as the candidate who would probably be in the best interests of the people of Rotherham, Simon Copley, lacks a party machine that can go up against Labour's slick election machine, it remains to be see if Rotherham is in for an election surprise!

Therefore were I to put money on the by-election, I would put it on Labour to win, Respect to come second and perhaps UKIP 3rd, though it would be a close call between them and Simon Copley.
