Merger and Acquisitions Area Play Driving Resource Stocks / Commodities / Resources Investing
The US unemployment numbers that came out on the day before last summer long weekend were less bad than expected. Or so the markets indicated until ISM manufacturing data in the afternoon cooled enthusiasm some. It had been good Australian and Chinese manufacturing data that turned market sentiment earlier in the week. Arguably the most interesting bit of news had been 100 km long traffic halts in China of coal trucks trying to make deliveries to power plants. More infrastructure gains are obviously needed to keep China growing.

Investment Opportunities and Pitfalls Investors Face In Resource Rich Central Asia / Commodities / Resources Investing
The former Soviet Central Asian republics are at a precarious crossroad today between accomplishing monumental progress, like Kazakhstan, and flirting with disaster and the prospects of civil war, like Kyrgyzstan.Indeed, should the current pace of development continue, particularly in the field of oil and natural gas, of which new untapped sources are constantly being discovered, Kazakhstan, for one, shows the potential to overtake the oil-producing states of the Arabian Gulf within the next decade. Resources Investors, Don't Get Hung Up on Negative Mainstream Press Headlines / Commodities / Resources Investing
One of the first things mainstream journalists in Western media learn is how to tease angles out of stories that play on fear, scandal and disaster. Good news is no news. Bad news sells. If it bleeds, it leads. As historian, political writer and Guardian columnist Timothy Garton Ash observed, "Many Chinese City Dwellers Moderately Content with Rising Standard of Living" isn't a headline that would sell a lot of papers. Resource Opportunities Editor and Publisher Lawrence Roulston would agree. "The media has a huge bias toward the negative side of any story," he tells The Gold Report in this exclusive interview. Investors focusing on scary headlines, he argues, are missing out on phenomenal opportunities developing on the other side of the world—namely Asia and, particularly, China. His advice? "Take a broader, longer-term view of the world."

The Winners and Losers in the ‘Commodities New World Order’ / Commodities / Resources Investing
Martin Hutchinson writes: In the "commodities new world order," commodity producers will be king.
Investors who need proof need only consider recent events. Iron ore prices are at record levels, and the annual-price-setting arrangement has broken down. Venezuela President Hugo Chávez has signed "dark side" agreements with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin for Russian companies to develop Venezuela's oil-and-mineral resources. China may have invested $1 trillion or so in U.S. Treasuries, but the Asian giant's only truly successful investment so far has been the 17% stake it took in Canadian-resources player Teck Resources Ltd. (NYSE: TCK).

William Patalon III writes: Virtually every investor has heard about how the emergence of China and India promise to send commodity prices skyward in the months and years to come. The promised run-up has yet to begin in earnest, but prognosticators say it's merely a matter of time and just the "right" catalyst.
Money Morning Contributing Editor Peter Krauth - a noted commodities expert and editor of the Global Resource Alert advisory service - says he's found that "just right" catalyst. He's calling it the "Great Global Commodities Grab," and says it's being engineered by some of Wall Street's biggest investment banks.
